ITV has commissioned a major new event drama serial from leading UK producer Greenlit Rights. Called Collision, the 5x60’ series is Peter Fincham’s first new independent drama commission, with director of drama Laura Mackie, since joining ITV as director of television.
Collision tells the story of a major road accident and a group of people who have never met and aren’t connected (as far as they know) but who all share one single defining moment that will change their lives.
Beyond the crumpled cars and the beleaguered emergency services are a series of invisible dramas that are rarely told, from Government cover-ups and smuggling, to embezzlement and murder. The serial ends with a devastating twist that will show all this death and mayhem was caused by the tiniest and most insignificant detail.
Collision is written by acclaimed author and screen writer Anthony Horowitz (Foyle’s War) and Mike Walker (Does
God Play Football) and will be directed by Marc Evans (In Prison My Whole Life, Snow Cake), marking his first return to TV direction in five years.
The ambitious serial will feature the largest collision ever shot in the UK for TV and will be delivered in February 2009.
Peter Fincham, ITV’s Director of Television, said: “I’m delighted to be commissioning this new serial from the creators of Foyle’s War. This is a high octane event drama that combines creative and original thinking with mass appeal. It promises to be both provocative and engaging”
Jill Green, managing director of Greenlit Rights, said: “Collision is exactly the sort of high concept, primetime production Greenlit is known for. The universal theme and scale of this serial will make it much talked about. We are delighted ITV has chosen to back such an ambitious drama project.” |
