Why are you annoyed?   I'm curious to see how Tuck is written into the
series - are the writers going to make him one of the much heralded new bad
guys?  They have buggered about with the legend so much, it would be an
interesting twist.  What I object to is the Beeb using an actor with
Harwood's talents just to fulfil their race agenda. I would like to think
that he was cast because he was *the* best actor for the role, regardless of

Think of Robin Hood's monk companion Friar Tuck and the words toned,
hunky and black don't spring to mind.
But in a daring move by the producers of the current BBC series, the
character - traditionally depicted as a fat, bald, ale-loving
Caucasian - is to be played by black, slim, six-packed actor David
Harewood, who also has a full head of hair.
Tuck was missing from the two earlier series of the popular BBC1
drama, which stars Jonas Armstrong as Robin and Kieth Allen as the
Sherriff of Nottingham.
It had been rumoured that rotund Little Britain star Matt Lucas would
fill the role of Robin Hood's jovial companion.
Instead with his muscles honed to perfection, Harewood - who starred
alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the film Blood Diamond - will play a
far from conventional Tuck.
The 42 year old RADA trained actor has recently joined the rest of
the show's stars in Budapest for filming of the third series and has
caused quite a stir amoung the crew in sporting his well defined
abdominal muscles.
In response, the male cast are desperate to help undo all his hours
of hard work in the gym. "Keith Allen loves cooking and has
threatened to try to fatten up David so he can really look the part,"
says one of our Merry Men in the know.
"He has told him that they are going to put him on a special
fattening - up diet. Everyone keeps on jokingly bringing pillows on
to set to help him fill out his costume."
A smitten BBC source tells us: "David is incredibly hunky and the
most atypical Tuck you could imagine. The Beeb want something new and
revolutionary, a talking point, which puts a black actor in the
forefront."
