Sorry Terry, I forgot to reply straight away. If you have a look at the
renewal form the AMQA bank details are near the bottom. So yes, you can
pay the renewal fee by internet banking. Saves me a trip to the bank
too.

Hi Everyone
Yes I did include renewal forms when I posted notification of the AGM
about 4 weeks ago. But I know how these "safe" places move around
making them difficult to find again. So I've uploaded the renewal form
to the files area. This form is for renewals only.

I will be creating a new a form for new applications only, as the
committee has decided to introduce a new rate for joining fees for the
first year only of a new membership.

My power will be going off soon but hopefully I will be able to upload
the form for new applications later today.

Cheers

Hi everyone
I've finally done it!! My eldest daughter is home for the school holidays and she has helped me film, convert, edit and upload my first YouTube videos....
Part 1 and 2 of quilting a swag border using my swag templates and oval are up to view. You can find them on my website
http://www.constantinequilts.com/swags.htm

Part 3 - the opposite sides should be filmed tomorrow hopefully! & uploaded by tomorrow night also...

You can also find them on my new Constantine Quilts blog, which I now use to send out newsletters to those who sign up to receive them on my website....
http://www.constantinequilts.blogspot.com

So I do hope this answers some questions on 'how' to use my templates and also inspire you to dust off your templates when they are soooo easy to use!
There is much more information and inspiration and design options in my book Tempting Templates - Swags! Both templates and book are available from my
website and also from Kings Men Quilting Supply if you are in the USA....
http://www.kmquiltingsupply.com

Hope you enjoy my amateur attempt at filming....
cheers & have a GREAT Day

Hi

Like Terry, I have overlooked the renewal of membership. If I received a
renewal notice, & I think I did, I have put it in that safe place that makes
things disappear as I can not find any information about how or where to pay
an invoice. So please put some information out to this list or the members
list.

Hi everyone
Just want to let everyone know of the results of our AGM held on
Thursday this week.

Interim President: Barb Cowan
Vice President: Tracey Browning
Secretary: Suzan Saliba
Minute Secretary: Gayle Dayman
Treasurer: Toni Trott
Membership secretary: Toni Trott
Mentor Program: Belinda Betts
Website: Susan Moroney
Editor: Susan Moroney
Committee: Terry Elverd

Firstly I want to congratulate all our new committee members for
coming along and joining in the fun of shaping the Australian Machine
Quilting Association Inc & representing our members accordingly.
There is a lot of personal satisfaction to be gained from being part
of a committee & I look forward to working with our new team. We now
have representatives from Qld, NSW, Vic, SA & WA – so anyone from
Tassie want to join in and make our committee truly National???

Next a huge THANKYOU to Barb Cowan for all the work & foresight she
has put into the creation and instigation of this organisation. Barb
has stated that she needs to concentrate on her own business for the
time being and we wish her well. Unfortunately we did not have a
nomination to take her place immediately, but we are confident that
we can challenge our members to step in and take over this role.
Another huge thankyou to all the other members that have contributed
on the committee since its inception only 18 months ago as well.

I would like to also explain my personal position in this matter. I
was asked if I would consider the role of President but decided to
remain in the VP's for a couple of reasons.

1. I strongly believe in the potential of AMQA Inc but also feel that
it needs to be run by machine quilting members (which I am of
course!) but most of the general public would see me as a supplier
before being a machine quilter these days and that doesn't sit right
with me. I don't think suppliers should be running/representing this
organisation. It is really the members that are/or should be running
AMQA.

2. I am wearing many hats these days, with various arms to my
business and to really be a `face' of AMQA and represent it well I
would need another 3 days in each week which I can't seem to find! If
anyone has them I'd be willing to trade for them???

I'm thrilled that we now have an expert (Susan Moroney) to take over
my website duties! Just wait until you see the magic she is going to
weave in this area to benefit members even more…..she is way more
experienced and knowledgeable in this area than I, so will be a huge
asset to all members.

AMQA has achieved a great deal in the last 12mths. We have a great
start to our website, have increased the profile Nationally of
machine quilting with our State Guilds responding positively in the
areas of their categories and in recognising machine quilters. We
have had our first challenge for our members, with fantastic sponsors
and publicity for all involved. I believe we are doing good…..don't
you? Rome wasn't built in a day, but good foundations have been laid
for the Australian Machine Quilting Association to grow and educate
and inform the general public and the quilting community on this
aspect of our passion.

I do hope that everyone understands my position and the reasons `why'
I am remaining as VP only. I am more than happy to assist in
promotion and to represent the members, but feel that my presence
could also inhibit AMQA if I am too much of a public figure within
this organisation as a supplier?

So, onward & upwards to another year of growth, understanding,
fellowship and camaraderie between machine quilters in Australia. If
any of you have any ambitions or would like a challenge with LOTS of
support, then we would welcome your contacting the committee to
discuss the role that the President has. It has fantastic support
from the rest of the committee and with everyone doing a little bit
then the rewards are shared as well!

Cheers & have a fantastic weekend

Tracey Browning

HI Terry,
Yes I'd definitely like to come! And I know of two other longarmers in my area - don't know if you know them - Trish Ryan and Emma Robson.  I will call them on my day off ( thurs) and ask if they'd like to come, then I'll send their details. However, you may already know of them, I'm not sure as I was away at the last meeting.

I'm reposting this from another list as a caution to those who are
members here and other Yahoo groups. I hope you all find this
information helpful. Many folks are getting emails from "Grouply"
and wondering if it's a virus or what, this explains what's going
on....

There are a few new services coming online which are social
"networking" sites similar to My Space and Facebook. One of these new
services is called "Grouply". Grouply is tapping Yahoo lists and
reposting the messages to Grouply members.

As soon as ONE group member joins this service, all of this groups
messages will then be archived by Grouply. Grouply changes your
email address to (yourname)@grouply.Com for the purpose of your
Yahoo list mail only. They will also go into your Yahoo account and
change all of your preferences regarding how you view your mail,
whether you get individual posts or digests, and whether you can be

In order to do this, Grouply requires that you give them your Yahoo
ID and password. There is no guarantee that this information that
Grouply is aggregating is secure, thus leaving your sign-in info

Currently, there is no way to block Grouply's access to this groups

Hi Everyone

I think I am safe in saying that the Qld Gathering last Saturday was a successful event. About 30 machine quilters from all over Queensland and Northern NSW attended.  The place was a ‘buzz’ all day. Those new to the business of machine quilting, and I noticed there were quite a few, no doubt found it a valuable opportunity to network with others.

Certainly, I’m sure, many were grateful for the added opportunity to put a face to the various supplier’s names, talk to them and hear about their products first hand.  I want to extend a very sincere thank you to Brenda Wade of Wide Backs, Jenny Scott of Always Quilting and Hermione Agee of Lorien Quilting for making the long journeys to be here on the day.

Thanks also to Toni Trott and Heather Shanks, Dawn Cheetham and Lesley McNamara for coming along to share their knowledge and experience about the various computerised systems. I observed little groups of people glued to computer screens and deep in thought throughout the day.

Many thanks to those who brought along their quilts for show and tell. It was a very impressive display of work. Special thanks to Dawn and Pam Hill for showing us some truly awe inspiring, award winning machine quilting.

Thanks also to Belinda Betts for going to the trouble to mail your AMQA Members 2008 Challenge winning quilt and thanks also to Heather for bringing along your winners.

Thank you Toni for lending a hand to make sure everyone had a name badge pinned to their lapel and ensuring the Qld database was updated by keeping a record of attendance.

My personal thanks to Pam for doing all that baking of so many delectable delights. It was worth having tea or coffee even when you didn’t feel like one, just to feast on the sweets. (Who cares about the calories, hey girls……you only live once!)

Unfortunately, clumsy fingers here dropped her digital camera late last week which rendered it out of action so I wasn’t able to capture the day on film. (Film….that shows my age, doesn’t it?)  I wonder if anyone else thought to collect some images……. I will be grateful to have some copies.

Thank you Dianne MacLeod-Carey for collecting the girls visiting from North Queensland, from their motel in town and transporting them out here to Aspley.

I hope everyone had a great day.

Happy Machine Quilting.

Hi Everyone

Congratulations to the winners, and a big THANK YOU to everyone who
entered a quilt into the Australian Machine Quilters Exhibition for 2008.

The quilts to be mailed were all delivered to the post office
yesterday, and I am glad that job is finished for the year. It was
easier this year with everyone completing address labels and
registered post forms for me â€" this sped the process up, and I
appreciate it greatly.

Victorian Quilters has advised me that the categories for the
Australian Machine Quilters Exhibition for 2009 will be

Custom, Wholecloth, and Edge to Edge the same as this year.

There will be a change to the Computerised Category. This year 90%
had to be computerised, next year that percent will be reduced to 70%.
So up to 30% of the quilting can be freehand.

They want to keep the percent high as they want this category to
demonstrate the skill and artistry that can be achieved through
computerised quilting, but have lowered the percent to open up more
possibilities for quilters with computerised machines.

I will advise when details and entry forms are available online at the
Vic Quilter web site.

I would encourage everyone to consider entering a quilt next year.

This is a show for machine quilters, judged by machine quilters.

I enter as I find it pushes me to develop as a quilter. I like
getting the judging form as it allows me to see what the judges
thought of my work, and can point me in a direction where I can
improve my work for future years.

So please start thinking about your entry for next year now.

You don’t have to make the quilt for scratch. You can enter a
customer’s quilt.

So if you complete a quilt that you are particularly proud of â€" ask if
you can enter it. If it happens to win, you get the prize/ribbon, but
your customer gets a ribbon also. My customer that allowed me to
enter her King David’s Crown quilt is absolutely thrilled that she is
getting a second place ribbon for her quilt. As she is not a member
of any guilds, this is a quilt that never would have been shown
anywhere if I had not asked her â€" which would have been a shame.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to read the lists often, so if you
want to ask any questions, please feel free to e-mail me privately on

Thanks again to all AMQE entrants for 2008.

What a great day for all at Hermione and Doug's lovely home in
beautiful Belgrave Heights. So many newbies, lovely show and tell,
great sharing and then the food... Laura and Phillipa did a great
job catering and I'm sure all present enjoyed the opportunity to sit,
chat and eat the delicious food on offer.

Next time the show and tell will run longer I'm sure as all present
can see how this part of the day is what it is all about, sharing our
knowledge no matter how little we believe it is worth. And to
support Hermione in saying 'put your quilts into shows no matter how
small or the shows will fold and we won't have the forum out there to
be seen'.

Thank you Hermione for inviting Brenda from Widebacks (South
Australia) to share her excellent range of fabrics and what
bargains. Mine have already been washed and air dried. If you
aren't on Brenda's registery then do so, as you receive 20% off on
any amount ordered, she even gets 7+metres in an Express package. On
joining you receive a book of swatches, very professional.

Off all present, I had only met Dot (Vic Textiles and Prodigy) and
Hermione before this. So it was great to see so many new faces.

I hope Hermione will offer this great opportunity to share her
knowledge and designs again, with the turn out I believe that it
would certainly be worth it for all present.

Again thanks you both and it was lovely to meet so many new quilters.

MACHINE QUILTING GATHERING QUEENSLAND

SATURDAY 9 AUGUST 10am – 4pm

Cost $10.00 (includes lunch)

All Machine Quilters in Queensland and Northern NSW are invited to attend a gathering on Saturday August 9 starting 10.00am, at 41 Elsanne Street, Aspley, Brisbane, Qld.

This event coincides with the `Quilts Across Queensland' exhibition staged by the RNA. So those coming to Brisbane for some machine quilting therapy might also like to visit the fabulous array of quilts on display at the Ekka.

Hermione Agee of Lorien Quilting will be here and she will be bringing with her some 'eye candy' for you to feast on. Hopefully Hermione's award winning 'Butterfly Ballet' will arrive back from the States in time and will be amongst those quilts.

Jenny Scott of Always Quilting has kindly agreed to fly up from Melbourne to tell us all about the range of Aurifil threads and show us ways to gain great effects with thread type and colour. More 'eye candy'!

Also visiting Queensland for the first time will be Brenda Wade of WideBacks. Brenda will introduce us to her extensive range of wide backing fabrics and show us some examples of how best they may be used.

NEWS FLASH...A new software package for the Statler Stitcher has just been introduced called Creative Studio. Qld and Northern NSW owners of the SS might welcome the opportunity to talk to someone face-to-face
about the new software.
I have invited Dawn Cheetham who recently travelled to SS headquarters NSW to qualify as a trainer of the program to attend and Dawn has kindly accepted the invitation. Dawn will give a brief outline of the new software package and will be available to discuss its features.

Some of the winning quilts in this year's AMQA Members Challenge will also be on display.

Toni Trott of Only Quilting has just had the IntelliQuilter installed on her APQS and will be keen to network with other happy IQ owners. Toni will be bringing her IQ tablet for demonstration. Toni will also have her templates for sale as she no longer needs them.

Several quilters from North Queensland will also attend for the first time and they are excited to have this opportunity to meet other girls from southern parts. So please come along and make them feel welcome.

The day will start at 10am and go through until 4pm or whenever. Don't worry about bringing lunch, I will provide lunch, including some delectable sweets, tea and coffee etc.

Cost for the day will be $10.00. Bring a fold-up chair if you're driving.

Also please bring show and tell or take this opportunity to 'pick people's brains' if you're stuck for ideas.

I will appreciate hearing from you if you haven't already contacted me for catering purposes.

Should be a great day...look forward to seeing you.

Please RSVP

I've gone computerised so I no longer need my Circle Lord for my APQS
Millenium. As well as the basic system for circles and Baptist Fans
there are also Aztec, Stella, Oval amd Spiral templates plus
instruction/design books. This is a great aid to help you sew perfect
simple or complex geometric shapes. The lot for $600 (approx half
price).

Hi Everyone

I just want to make sure everyone understands that the Qld Gathering planned here August 9 is NOT AMQA members only. It is an open day and all machine quilters are invited.

Also ….. Brenda Wade of WideBacks is travelling up from South Australia to be here and bringing several samples of her fabrics.

We will run a mini Look and Learn when all the suppliers will be given some time to present and talk about their products.

I've been talking to Janette and we've decided to hold two meetings - one in a couple of weeks and one at the end of September. Yay!

So this is your official invitation to gather at my house on Saturday July 26th 10am to 4pm. That is the same weekend as the Craft and Quilt Show, the Vic Quilters Quilt Showcase and the Australian Machine Quilters Exhibition so out-of-towners are welcome too. It's a super-quilty weekend!

My machine will be here (obviously) and I'll load something on there to play with so if you have questions about a technique or would like to see something demonstrated let me know (in advance please) and I will organise someone to show you how it's done.

The cost will be $5 per person and will cover a morning tea of scones with tea/coffee and a lunch which will include baked potatoes with toppings, homemade pumpkin soup with bread and sandwiches, juice and softdrinks too. Yummy! Then there will be all the tea/coffee/hot chocolate you can drink and a big pile of bickies. If you need something special just let me know. I'm sorry I can't do this one for free like last time - there are too many of you ;o)

All vendors are welcome - let me know if you want to come and let everyone else know you're coming too so they can warm up their credit cards.

BYO show and tell (a must!) and a chair if you can. You are also welcome to bring any quilts you are having trouble with to get some advice.

Beginners - bring a list of all the questions you want answers to and the more experienced quilters will help you out.

RSVP to me by the 22nd so I know how much food to prepare. Feel free to pass the invitation on to any machine quilters you know who might not hear about it otherwise - the more the merrier - just make sure to let them know to RSVP.

If you were here last time and you have some suggestions about how to make it better just let me know - I'd love some feedback.

Looking forward to seeing many of you here. Best wishes,

Hermione Agee.

Yes #2 Grandson arrived 13 March, Thomas Charles Cowan. This one lives in Brisbane so I am seeing him on a weekly basis, such a delightful distraction. I do talk to Cody in Rockhampton regularly and that is such a joy but electronically transmitted kisses are nothing like the real thing.

Sorry to hear about your SIL, Robyn, I hope all goes well.

Enjoy Melbourne and hope to see you in August, perhaps you could update us on all the Statler news.
