Re: [AMRIS Rats and Mice] A question

Sharon,
Our rats are constantly grooming each other, but if it seems too excessive it
might be an idea to separate them for a short time (2 weeks or so). Put them in
separate cages next to each other. That way they can still talk to each other
with the constant grooming and you will be able to tell if that is the cause of
the hair loss.
Good luck
Karen

Just a question about hair loss. One of my two male rats has this
patch of hair on the top of his head that is shorter than the rest &
looks a bit bald. I am pretty sure it's actually the result of over
zealous grooming from his brother, as I've seen his brother looking like he's
chewing on his hair in that exact spot!

He never itches the spot (though he does scratch other bits of himself
- how often does a healthy rat itch itself I wonder??). The skin looks
fine, it's not red or scaly or sore & there are no other patches on his
or his brother's body.

Has anyone else had rats giving their siblings bad hair cuts?

Should I take him to the vet for a check up?

Thanks,

Sharon.
