Hello everybody, I currently have guinea pigs, rabbits, mice and rats
so I feel that this was the group for me!

I was wondering if there is a contact for a mouse club in South
Australia?

My two female mice recently had unplanned completely accidental
litters after my mistaking the gender of one of my pet mice.

I am able to keep all babies if necessary, but would like to re-home
some if I am able to.

Is there any AMRIS members in S.A that would like some mice once they
are weaned and old enough to be adopted?
One of the mothers is a Siamese, and the other mother is a PEW.
Potentially there may be manx babies or Siamese or even Rex babies in
the litter, as the father is a snow-tiger rex.

I have yet to check if any manx babies resulted, as I don't want to
disturb the nest for a few more days, in case the mothers rejected
their babies.

This was an accidental litter, I have zero plans of breeding mice in
the future.

All babies will be handled and be very tame and friendly, as are
their parents.
If you are in SA and wish to re-home one of my accidental babies
in a month or so, please let me know, otherwise I am happy to keep
them all if
necessary.

Hello. I am new also. Excuse me for using your message to meet you
and everyone else, but I don't know if any one is getting my
messages. I have 1 male rat (as of yesterday) though I used to have
many rats as pets. I also have 10 mice... 3 of which are males. I
have photos posted already... thought the babies pictured have homes
now (except the 3 we kept). I purchased 2 shaggy headed baby mice
yesterday. I'd never seen one before and decided to take some

Hello. I have been having problems with bouncy emails for some
reason and do not know when or if my emails are getting through.
However, I have joined the group and would like to know if anyone is
still out there. I am the mother of 10 mice and have just gotten a
new rat, Spot. I used to breed rats and had been kind of getting
out of the rat business, but met Spot. He is sick though and there
was no gaurantee on the little guy. I also purchased 2 shaggy
headed mice. I'd never seen one before so I traded 5 of my little
tikes for 2 of their tiny mop heads. I have photos in the gallery
already, just unsure if anyone is getting my messages.

Guess we'll see...

-Heather.

Hey Doreena,

I agree 100% with what Deb has said. I think the best thing would be to
take your bunny back to the vets as soon as possible.

I don't want to trample on anyone's toes for suggesting this, but the thing
is, not all vets know a lot about bunnies and rodents, and it's not because
they're not interested, but more because they don't have many rabbit /
rodent patients! If you are at the point where you don't think your current
vet can help you further, have a look at
http://charm.air.on.ca/raytec/AustralianRabbitVets.htm and you may be able
to find a 'rabbit vet' close to you who can be of more assistance.
Alternately, your vet could contact one of the vets on this list for advice
[or you could do this perhaps?] if you are too far from those listed.

Best of luck with your dear bunny boy! Let us all know how you go!

Cheers,
Glenda

Hi my name is Doreena. I have a sick rabbit at the moment.
His eye is red and watery and the vet seems to think it is a cyst or
abcess. We have been giving him an injection for last 5 days and
massaging some cream into his eye.His eye has not gotten any worse
but the eye is not looking so pushed out it also appears to have a
bit of blood in it now so maybe it was a abcess. Any ideas as to
what we might be able to try before we go back to the vet. Thank you
hope somebody has some ideas. Doreena

Hi Doreena,
Damn dont you hate it when your little ones get sick....i just feel so bad
for them and want miracles to happen to make them better....
Unfortunatley when it comes to eyes....it can be quite dangerous to play vet

as things can go down hill pretty quickly...i would be taking your little
rabbit back to the vet asap....especially if you have had him on injections
for 5 days...its obviously not working if there is blood in the eye....

I dont know what the cream is....probably a steroid....but i wouldnt have
thought massaging the eye would be good for it....but im no Vet.
If you do want to try something.....try bathing the eye with a salt water
solution...like a cup of water with a pinch of salt...ide do that 5 times a
day if possible.....but really....the vet is your best choice....i hope he
gets better real soon....let us know how he goes....i used to breed
rabbits.....so i know how much they can mean to us.....good luck
deb

Hello fellow mouse & rat parents...

I am new to this group... and am unsure how active you all are and how often you
all correspond, but I did send an email yesterday which I think was today to
members in Australia which I think means this message will not get to you til
tomorrow... or something like that. I think that my night is your day and I
know that my winter is your summer. Anyway, I have some baby mice, eyes open...
cute little wee balls of fur and I was basically wondering how I might be able
to guess their age. Mice seem to nest a little more securely than my rats did
and I discovered the little things when I was sifting through the bedding in
order to clean the cage. I don't know how long they had been there or which
female mouse is the real mother. My guess is that the babies are 3 weeks, but I
really don't know. I added a picture albumn with photographs of all the babies.
What do you think?

Take Care,

Hello.
I used to breed rats and have had rats as pets, but kind of by
accident, I got into mice. It is a long story really, but my
concern right now is... have 4 female mice (adults), one male and
now 7 babies (3 males &4 females about 2 weeks old??) I do not know
much about mice, gestation and baby mouse development and I do not
know the actual birth day of these mice. I was wondering if someone
could tell me at approx how many days certain things happen, like
fur pigmentation starts to appear, eyes open... weaning, and length
of gestation of a mouse? I had tried to breed one mouse way back in
August with a little brown and white male mouse, but she never
conceived, she simply got fatter. Now, I am really not sure who is
the mother. There are 2 possibilities, and I have even thought
maybe they are both the mothers... they are both nursing... but then
again, so is the one I tried to breed back in August, just not
excessively like the other 2. The father has even tried to nurse
them. Is it common or not that 3 of the 4 females are actively
nursing these 7 babies? The fourth mouse is the only one that still
has her petite girlish figure. She acts as the nurturing older
sister for now.
I'd appreciate any guidance.
Thanks,
Heather in Maine, USA

Can anyone or does anyone know someone who can help with
homing/fostering/sexing mice? Jessica from the Cruelty Free Shop had a call

They are currently all housed together so urgently need to be separated by
gender so they at least stop breeding. Then they need to find new homes. If
anyone can help please contact Jessica urgently via email. Her email

Hi Anna

I found that my does also sneezed when i first bought them home....actually
they still sneeze from time to time now.....all i did was keep an eye on
them...checked nose and eyes for discharge...which never eventuated....thank
god....and i also removed wooden shavings from the cage...even the wood
shavings recommended by the shop i got the does from....i bought breeders
choice litter instead....made a big difference.....i also ensure that my
girls are not in a direct draft....they like things pretty warm and
humid.....i also made a few bags ( i call them rat sacks...lol)...out of
polar fleece so they can snuggle down inside them....they luv em so
much....you can buy them...but they are mega easy to make....
Ive had my girls for 3 months now....we just luv each other...i hope you get
as much joy with your girls as i do

He lets our Ratties free range all over the house where they can get
up to all sorts of mischief...like chew thru phone lines, demolish
clothing, get in behind the stove etc....hmmmmm very naughty boy.
Anyway....any good advise on how i can deal with this
situation?....i tried the old "its not safe for the rats" routine
and that didnt work....i even tried the " its a costly venture
letting them demolish everything" and that didnt work
either....so.....any suggestions as to how i can...maybe scare him

I am desperate, can someone please help me? I need to find a vet who
KNOWS about rats! I live in Elwood [Melbourne].

My 9 month old rat Ollie has had a depressed appetite for about 2
weeks. He doesn't have any other symptoms. He has been to the vet -
but they are just guessing. I have Deb Ducommun's Rat Health Care
booklet.
He has been on Baytril for about 3 days [no help], then
amoxicillin for 4.5 days [seemed to help at first, then he got
worse].Now he's on Baytril and doxycycline. He's had 2 doses, but
seems worse. It is harder and harder to tempt him to eat. He stays
in bed mostly, but is still pretty active when he comes out of his
cage. I don't know what to do! I love him and I don't want to lose
him. Please help!
Joelle.

My 6 rats sleep in their litter tray...lol....and so i guess they pee in
that too...mind you they do sleep other places and dont pee there...my
suggestion is where ever you have their bed is where they associate
peeing....so try putting their bed in another corner or space and put a
litter tray where they normally pee
As for biting...you can stop that......my girls have learnt the word.....
NO.....you have to say it firmly when ever they do something wrong....and
reward them when they are good...its the same as training a dog....Rats are
extremely smart......one thing i did find is the more rats you have the
easier it is to train them.....my 6 learn from each other.
i hope that helps....if i can be of any other help let me know...smile

my girls really are very good......but they do get up to mischief too....but
i just have a laugh along with them....dont let them get away with
murder...but let them have some fun too....smile

My rats Moose and Juna both do it too!
Question- My rat Juna bites aggresivly, is she just a mean rat, or is there
something I can do?

Oh now thats very cute.....my ratties are very snuggly.....lol...i
had so much trouble getting out the front door this morning....gypsy
wanted to come to work with me.....its so hard to leave them

my partner and i decided a mischief of rats fit our girls
beautifully...but maybe a snuggle mischief of rats could be added to
the collective noun group...lol
