Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately I need to cancel tonight’s class at Camperdown as I am ill with the flu. We have no other instructor as Mike is over in Perth and Kate is in Europe.

Bob and Craig however will be at the dojo tonight doing some training so you are more than welcome if you wish to go along and do some of your own personal training.

I think I am over the worse of the flu so by tomorrow I’m hoping to feel a lot better. I’m still planning therefore to run the intensive this Saturday. I will however send another e-mail out tomorrow if this is not possible. Unless you hear otherwise assume at this stage that the intensive is still on.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Everyone,

As you maybe aware Sensei will be going on holiday to Europe for six weeks in June. Whilst Sensei is away the fortnightly Saturday classes at the Camperdown dojo will not be running. Sensei however has given be the OK to run intensives during this period.

For those of you who have not attended intensives before they basically consist of two classes with a short break in between. It is entirely up to you if you want to do both or just one of the classes. The intensives will be run at the Camperdown dojo.

Unless unforeseen circumstances arise the dates of the intensives will be:

Saturday June 20th:      9.30am – 11.30am (Aikido Weapons - kenjutsu)

                                    Break

                                    12.00 – 2.00pm (Aikido Body Arts – taijutsu)

Saturday July 18th:       9.30am – 11.30am (Aikido Weapons - kenjutsu)

                                    Break

                                    12.00 – 2.00pm (Aikido Body Arts – taijutsu)

For the first class as per the fortnightly class please arrive at least 30 minutes before the formal start of class at 9.30am to help set up the dojo.

If you require any further information about the intensives please speak to me over the next few weeks.

Best Regards,

Martin

"The Tool of Violence: Leveling the playing field"

On Saturday 7 March, our friends from TFT will be running a one-day
introductory seminar concentrating on using "violence" as a survival
tool.

This seminar is open to women and men ages 18 to 85 and is suitable
for both newcomers and those of you who have trained in TFT
previously. It's for anyone who needs to know that they can
effectively use violence as a tool for surviving violence.

Follow this link
(http://www.targetfocustraining.com/what_is_tft.html) to read up on
TFT. Don't worry about the hype on the website, it's targetting the
US market.

Alternatively, ask me or another of the seniors about their
experience of this training. We have hosted our TFT friends at the
dojo three times previously and the majority of our students have
found it a fascinating and extremely worthwhile experience.
(Personally, I find it pretty confronting and mind-bogglingly helpful
in my personal training.)

DATE: Saturday 7th March 2009

TIME: 8.45am - 4.30pm

LOCATION: Camperdown dojo

ATTIRE: Comfortable training clothes and "dedicated mat shoes" (that
means never been worn outside) if you have them -- bare feet if you
don't. There is the potential for some outdoor training also, so be
prepared.

TRAINERS: Mick Valentine, Mike Allen and Kristian Miller-Karlsen

COST: $100

Seminar programme
Join a fabulous line up of senior instructors from Japan and around the world for three days of exploring aikido without boundaries and  building a bridge between Japan and Australia.

Located in Matsusaka its only a short ferry ride (45min) across the bay from Nagoya airport and takes you back in time as you enter rural old stye Japan. A 3 day intensive aikido seminar will have you relaxing each night in the sento (traditional bath house) before enjoying traditional local foods. Enjoy top class training facilities on a umm.. 250 mat dojo on a sprung wooden floor.

After the seminar we visit the Ise shrine (perhaps Japans most important shrine)  that is  well off the tourist track and rarely visited by westerners. Enjoy the atmosphere, traditional foods and crafts. Only a day later find yourself in Takayama lodging for two nights traditional style in traditional Japanese lodgings. For those time poor already a week (9 days)has gone by and its time to go home and back to work.

Those with a little more time and cashed up can  stay on for fabulous Kyoto (the old capital), maybe koyasan and then hit the new capital Tokyo (which has the same number of people as Australia living in it) maybe staying at Andrew Sunters favourite hotel the Andon Ryokan and then head home the following Friday or stay longer and hump a backpack (for the independant travellers amongst you)

Good afternoon Andrew,

We all certainly had a big October for the Wagga Wagga dojo.  After that awesome seminar with Maruyama Sensei at your dojo (thanks again for making that possible), we then hosted Talag Sensei here for a couple of classes where he taught our students.

Although tomorrow is already November, our whole dojo is still feeling the positive effects from last October's great Aikido events.  Everybody seems to be showing much more commitment to their training now.

I'm emailing to invite you and your dojo to come and visit us in Wagga Wagga.  As we've done previously with Murray Loader and the Canberra dojo, we would be keen to host you and your students here.  As you are the most senior instructor, it would br great if you can conduct classes here for us.  All of us at the Wagga dojo would be keen to learn from you.

If this is feasible for you and your students, we're looking at possibly the 3rd weekend of November (22 and 23) to host you guys.  This will also coincide with the date of our dojo Christmas party - and we can all celebrate this on Saturday night.

If the above dates don't suit, there's still the last weekend of November.

It will be ideal if we can hold the seminar from Saturday to Sunday to maximise the time.  As for accommodation, we will endeavour to billet as many of the Sydney students as possible in our own students' homes.  The rest need not worry as we will look around for the best and cheapest accommodation deals here in Wagga.

Every since you mentioned during the last seminar that the Sydney guys were keen to visit Wagga, our sutdents have been eagerly looking forward to hosting the Sydney dojo here.  We all hope that we can make this happen.

I hope to hear back from you soon.

Thank you and have a great weekend.  Regards to all your students.

Jonathan

Hi everyone

Only three weeks to go till Maruyama Sensei's Sydney Seminar, 4-7 October

Please note attendance is limited and there are only about 10 spots left.

We have a fantastic new website including details of the seminar thanks to the efforts of Bob Withers (great work Bob!). Please check it out if you haven't already at http://www.aikidoinsydney.com/

Pre-payment will really help us reduce admin on the day, but mostly we'd like to know if you want to take advantage of the Japanese-style lunch for only $5 per lunch. This will help a lot with planning.

Contact info@... to register
Please let us know:
- If you are attending the full seminar or particular sessions
- If you want to attend the seminar dinner
- If you want lunch

We'll send account details for online prepayment and sign-up forms as required.

I attended Maruyama Sensei's seminars in Europe this year and he has some fantastic new stuff including footwork, another shinkage-ryu kata, principles for preventing uke from stepping, new ideas on stability and much more.

Hope to see you there

best regards

Andrew
