Geelong Forum

Hi Julie,

Good to hear that you will resume your trip.

I wondered if anyone went to the Geelong Forum?

I am off now to collate the Vic Felters newsletter at Chrissie Lavritz's place. Gini

Well I was at Geelong Forum on the Friday (and got to go to party night) and Saturday. I got to do a little shopping of course, and see the class displays. The Chad Alice Hagen felt resist dyeing classwork was mind-blowing. It drew a lot of interest from Saturday visitors. I know the students loved it and loved Chad. Having seen what the achieved, I would enrol in that class in a flash were it to be offered again.

Molly Littlejohn taught a felting class, too. Molly’s great, but I wasn’t so taken with that student work on display, probably because the colours didn’t attract me (like Chad’s class’). I didn’t notice what the theme of her class was.

There was some felt work by Liz Evans on display in the upstairs gallery – cloaks and lots of great bags.

Lots of felt supplies for sale, too and some felt being sold in the Heathen Bazaar (student bazaar). Catherine O’Leary just all but sold out of her wonderful works. I’d bought a nuno mermaid scarf from her at Lumina Gallery the week before Forum. I love it. If I get around to hanging it on the wall as planned, I should photograph it and post a photo.

Catherine’s recent work is featured on the www.feltconvergence.com website.

I also went to the National Wool Museum in Geelong to see the Wool Quilt Prize: Expressions 2006. Handmade felt featured in many of the quilts. I loved Nonie Bridgland’s white piece. The winning wool patchwork quilt with embroidery – oh I loved it! Sorry I can’t recall the artist. This exhibition is on till 26 January. See www.nwm.vic.gov.au for museum hours.

At the moment I am making tiny dollhouse doll hats in felt. I’m moulding on marbles. I’ll give you a hoy when I put up some photos.

Bye for now

Stacey
