Hi Feltettes

Anyone interested in machine embellishing? Here is a link about a new
book: http://www.embellishandstitch.com/. This is Val Campbell-Harding's
last joint book with Maggie Grey, as Val passed away a couple of months ago.

Looking forward to the New Year? I am very excited by the possibilities
2007 holds. Happy, Happy!

Hi Barb

sorry to hear that you are finding laying up a challenge, I have problems
rolling my felt due to a chronic health issue, that was what pushed me into
needlefelting! Still do some wet felting but have to con hubby and the
girls to do my rolling for me!

I love spinning, I find it a peaceful past time as well as giving me lots
of yarns to do all sorts of things with!!!

Looking forward to seeing your blanket when you finish it!!!

I am finishing of a bag for my mum that has been crocheted and then chucked
in the washing machine!

Got to go, busy day tomorrow, we are picking up my daughters Christmas
present a young adult cocker spaniel!!! One more mouth to feed!

Take care

Cheers

Sandie :-)

Hi everyone, again,

I haven't gotten around to doing much felting since we came back from
the Uk in October, as things were very busy in other directions.

As I have quite a stash of sliver, which is now getting older, that I
have difficulty laying up,due to my chronic back problem & a recent
unrelated operation, I decided to start spinning.
Thanks to Kerry, she sold me an old Roberta electric spinner.I played
with it for a few weeks, then took it to Ian (Ertoel) to upgrade &
service for me. He told me that it was one of the first made, probably
1978 vintage & will go for ever! I am very happy with it.

I'm a novice, & have been spinning merino, merino/ silk and alpaca. I
love the possibilities of the Roberta, as it is so versatile.

I have knitted up sample swatches, on large needles, mostly, which I
shall join up and then felt into a lightweight blanket.

I want to explore the possibilities of using my embellishing machine
to make cobweb type felt from the spun fibre, also.

As my felting is now going to have to be mainly confined to using
batts, with tops used for embellishing, as I have difficulty laying
up, I'm enjoying the new challenge.

Of course, I shall still be continuing with needle felting. That's
what I love about the whole process.

I'll keep you posted. :) Barb M

Thanks very much Kerry, for that little tidbit of info.  The place that I am staying in is located at Tsim sha Sui, and I have walked up and down the length of Nathan street today.  Went to the Ladies Market, which seemed full of handbags and purses and fake jewellery along with some t shirts.....not what I want to buy.  I did, however, get into a shop full of silk, and bought 70 metres of silk for felting with.  Would love to have bought more, but I am seriously running out of space in my suitcases.

Warm regards

Hello Wendy

I really do hope that I will be able to make it to the Convergence, although I have not yet applied.  I have been travelling without a printer, so cannot print out the application forms, and as I was reading, they have to be in by 19th for early bird savings.

I have just arrived back to Hong Kong after 5 days touring in Beijing and Xi'an in China.  Very smoggy - dreadful pollution everywhere there, so now I am supporting a very sore pair of lungs with a horrible cough once again, and a sore throat.

Xi'an was lovely if you could put up with the pollution.  But I went there because I wanted to see the Terracotta soldiers of the Tang Dynasty.  It was fabulous, so awesome.  They are now digging a fourth pit, and finding plenty.

As I spent 4 days in Hong Kong prior to China, I think I am over Hong Kong.  With that in mind, I will wander the streets for just a couple of more days, then hopefully be able to change my flight back home to allow me to be home before Christmas, and surprise the family, even if it does mean that someone will have to find me a bed.....

This leg of the trip has been fraught with a lot of difficulties, and to that end, I hope that I can change the bookings.  I am tired of the travel now, and look forward to going home, even if I am only there for a few months before going off to Melbourne for the Convergence if I get a place.

Best Wishes to everyone, and I see that you are all delighted with your "secret Santa" gift exchanges.  What a great idea it was.

Warmest to all
Julie

Hey Felt-ettes!

I got my exchange package today and Sandie was my Secret Santa. Thanks
Sandie! I got a heap of different fibres, some LINDT chocolate (super
yum!) a fantastic felt piece featuring a dove that can be used as a
coaster or an ornament (cool idea to give something that can be used in
different ways) and a little book of happiness quotes. That's perfect
because I'm about to start a new blog about HAPPINESS and I have been
gathering quotes to use on it!

You know, the Law of Attraction is a HOT topic right now, thanks largely
to THE SECRET which is a DVD movie released in the US this year. It will
show on Australian tv in February I think, so the DVD isn't currently
available for sale in this country BUT you can buy it from Amazon.com.
There are lots of books on the market, too. Look for "Power of
Intention" by Dr Wayne Dyer or "Law of Attraction" by Esther Hicks.
Deepak Chopra and other authors have recently written books on this
topic, too. It is very "in" right now.

The Law of Attraction states that what you think, you create. So isn't
it fitting that I should get this little book from Sandie! Thanks,
Sandie for tuning into my desire to manifest quotes on happiness!

But that isn't the end of the sychronicity involved in this package. My
son said to me, just before I opened it, "Do we have any candy canes
yet? I feel like a candy cane."

We didn't, so I sent him away with a promise that I'd buy some next time
I was out. (We always have some in the house at this time of year.)

Then I opened Sandie's package and amongst the treasures, there were two
candy canes. COOL, HUH?!

Good Morning Everyone.
Exchange gift arrived in the mail yesterday and was waiting for me when I arrived home.
A beautiful bag of goodies from Stacey. There was a hand made card featuring a jeweled Christmas Tree on layers of different handmade paper, a miniature hat on a miniature hat stand, wreath and tiny, tiny little presents sitting on a miniature red chair to hang on the tree.
The fibre is variegated rich green (my favorite colour) sliver and very textured hand spun matching green yarn.  Already sampled the goodies, lovely Guylian chocolates with my morning tea. Almost forgot, a little kit to make tree brooches to match the one on the card. I will make one each for the 2 women who share the shop with me and for the 2 friend that I lunch with every Friday.
Stacey, love your family tradition of starting Christmas day with a birthday cake and singing Happy Birthday to Jesus.  What a great reminder what Christmas is all about.
Many many thanks, what a wonderful start to my day.

Hi All

Just to let you know the last parcel arrived and they have all been sent so
watch those letter boxes!!!

Please write to the list thanking your partner, I left the return addresses
on the boxes/parcels so you will know who sent the parcel but please
remember they had no idea who their parcel was going to!!! So let them know
who received their gift!!!

Have to also say what a conscientious group we are, many of the boxes and
bags that items arrived in were recycled, well done girls!!!! I thought I
was one of the few nutcases who did that, my parcels always have a history
when I take them to the post office!!!!

Thank you to all who have taken part, you have all thrown yourselves into
the spirit of things and I cant wait to find out what were in all the
interesting parcels that arrived!!!! We had a peek when we opened and
readdressed the parcels but lots of you had wrapped your items, and no I
didn't unwrap them, did a bit of shaking but felt doesn't make too much
sound!!! :-)

Enjoy!!!

Cheers

Sandie :-)

HI All

Sorry haven't been around, major computer meltdown!!! Had to get a new hard
drive but we are back on deck now. Thank goodness, I am lost without my
technology.

Just to let the Christmas Exchange participants know, I am waiting on one
parcel, did not want to send out until I had the lot so I am sorry, Hope
they will go out at the end of the week!!

Hope you are all fighting fit and felting madly for Christmas!!! :-) (I'm
not, so somebody needs to!)

Have been busy with other projects at the moment, taught a needlefelting
workshop for a group of year 12 students last week, what a blast. They are
next years, year 12 students and their teacher wanted to give them some
alternative techniques. In particular a couple of the girls who while keen
couldn't seem to get their act together, the two of them were the most
enthusiastic of the group and you could see the wheels turning as they left.

Hope you are all well, those in Sydney aren't melting too much and life is
treating you all kindly.

Off to catch up with the millions (so I exaggerate a little but there are
lots!) of emails I need to deal with!
Cheers

Sandie

Hi Meg
It is sad to think that an incident like this will sour a trip.  But I am trying to get over that, by enjoying London as much as one can in the cold and wet city.  I went to the Tower of London yesterday and enjoyed the day, but made sure that I was home to my hotel just after dark, which was about 5pm.

Otherwise I am fine, and you could make me welcome in Augusta when I get back home.  Send me your phone number again by private email, so that I can give you a ring when I get back to the West.

Well Sandie

The offers that have come in from different ones for me to go and visit them, and even offers of money (which I am okay for, since they only got the cash that I had on me).  I managed to cancel my credit cards in time, and get an emergency one, so I am okay in that respect.  The new emergency passport that was issued for me from Madrid meant that at least I have another 7 months to go of travel, before I have to re apply for a new one.  The only thing that is dissapointing about the whole sad affair, is that Patches, who replaced Spotty on my travels when I was home in Perth in October, has now gone, and along with the phone and digital camera, a change of underwear, medicare card, driving licence, frequent flyers card, RAC membership card and photos of my family, and the only bit of english writing that I had in the form of an unfinished Nicholas Evans book, I am okay, albiet a little paranoid about keeping things close to me and spread out all over my body, and do not carry a handbag or purse any longer.

I will look forward to getting back to Australia.  My flight takes me straight to Perth from Hong Kong, but if the mood takes me, before I get settled and get a job, I want to be able to go to NSW and to Qld and Victoria, so you may yet see me.  Thanks for the offer, which I will bear in mind.

Warm regards
Julie who is typing this from an Internet Cafe, as the hotel is such a dive that I cannot get a wireless signal to use my own computer.

Hi Everyone

Well, just a quick one from Barcelona, spain.  I have been stuck here, due to the fact that I was robbed of my handbag containing all my documents and tickets and cards and wallet, phone and camera, address books, novel, you name it, it got stolen.  Even Patches, who was replacing Spotty was in the bag with everything else, so I am very hurt about that.

The only thing that I have seen of Barcelona at present is the inside of the Police Station, Consulate, Post Office and Cyber Cafe, along with the Hotel.  I had to get another emergency passport and visa card, cancel the others, and get some emergency cash, as it was all stolen.

So, I am not very appreciative of Barcelona at the moment, and am trying to find a flight back to London , where I have a hotel booking to go to when I get there.

Maybe I will be back in Australia before I know it, but have to cancel the India part of the trip, as the visa is now gone, and I would have to get another.  I feel that I am dis inclined to do that.

Best wishes to all
Julie
