Hi Sandie

That sounds great. I would love to take part.

Just wondering whether it would be possible to put postage stamps (or a $5 note) in the box instead of a money order as I think money orders cost about $2 to purchase.

Hi Wendy

Thank for the feedback, thats pretty much how the exchanges I have been in
have worked.

BTW I didn't mean to suggest we embroider the eggs, I just thought as a bit
of embellishment!!! :-) Had visions of sitting for hours making embroidered
eggs!! LOL

Need to get an idea of who is interested in the exchange:

Each person will need to make an egg for every one who takes part.

The eggs are to be posted in a box with a return label and a money order
for the return postage.

The eggs are obviously to be felted, needle or traditional or a combination
of both!

Anyone who is interested needs to let me know by the 31st of January.
Eggs to be received by the 12 of March to be sent back out the week of Easter.

Does that sound fair to everyone????? Please let me know if it isn't.

I am happy to organise this but if someone has a burning to desire to take
charge of it, please feel free to offer.

Bye for now

Sandie :-)

Hi all
I have put some of my hats in the gift shop at the Bathurst Art Gallery and they have sold 3 needle felted hats and one wet felted hats. They will be closed for three weeks and when the reopen in Feb. I will be putting in some felted bags.
Scarf sales haven't been as good as in the past so have taken some of the scarves and refelted them so they are harder and made them into "sleep bags" little bags filled with lavender and wheat to put on you pillow, they look and smell great. I will also make some into phone bags, little bags so you can wear you phone around your neck. Any other idea's for saleable items from felt? I have done felted soap, egg cosies and slippers. Also have made wall hangings and masks but prefer to make functional items.

Hi everyone,
The marrriage rug was a huge success, My sister & her new husband
love it. We ended up using it in part of the ceremony, which went
down very well. I'm waiting for my daughter in law to email me a
picture of it so I can post it online.

I made it to tell the story of marriage, with the rough & the smooth
& the winding road that it takes, with colour and neutral, all in
the design.

The wedding was not able to be down by the river, as there had been
soooo much rain. However, despite the fact that it was still very
soft underfoot on Friday, on Saturday it was a delightfull 25deg
(after 2 weeks of mostly rain.)

It was lovely on Sunday, too, & we flew to NZ (for 1st time) with
our daughter who lives here, after the barbque that wasn't. Our son
made pizzas instead in his home made pizza oven.

We have had a great time, travelling around the Northlands,
beautiful scenery, friendly folk.
Next week we travel a little south of Auckland. I hope to catch up
with some felters here, but I left addresses back home, so will have
to ring a friend for them. I haven't seen any felt so far on my
journey, which is dissapointing, as I know there is some great stuff
done in NZ.

We are going to see Cirque de Soleil next Saturday :)))

Julie & SAndee, I'm glad the fires have left you be, I hope you
remain safe.

The easter egg idea is a great one, hope I can get going with some.

Patricia
Glad to hear that you do manage to share your felting time with someone else....even if they do not felt.  It does somehow give one that extra incentive to be creative.  Not to forget that even watching what others are doing, the inspiration for design and methods of creativity will get the juices flowing.  I know that because my mother is a quiltmaker.  We often share ideas and she always gets me to have a look at her work before she puts it all together, because she values my colour co-ordination and design placement.  I also tend to go overboard a little with design on my own work, so I in turn, value her opinion in placement and practicability.  She shows me a lot of things that my felt can be applied to, so we are both on a win/win situation.  I might mention that my mother is 83 years old, and still churns out quilt after quilt after quilt, and does not look like stopping.  Only two months ago, she purchased a new sewing machine, having worn out her last one.
I will not be able to go to the Orange Forum, but plan to go to the Geelong one in Sept/Oct then on to the felting convergence in Canberra.  I have to take my annual leave from my job for it, and it is a long way from Perth, so I can only do it once in a long while.
Happy feltmaking

Hi Natalie
If driving long distances is a problem for you, why don't you advertise and start a group going in your home town.  Put up notices, and in the paper, have a small gathering and demo at your home to start with, then you would be surprised to find how many people will be interested in joining you on a regular basis.  My sister is a spinner, and went to a fairly isolated town in WA, no spinners there, so that is what she did.  She had a large following, and eventually they met in a place central to them all, in the town.  Even though she has now left the town, the group still goes on nice and strong, so the news is.  Try it, Nat.....it can't hurt.  You may even be able to get a couple more experienced feltmakers from the Guild to come up and help demo, have some fibres available in kit form packs for sale on the day, get them to bring a plate for lunch to share the first time round, then after, bring their own lunches.  Don't charge for first time, except for fibre to be sold, or get a donation for the Tsunami fund or similar.  Ideas can be forthcoming all the time.
Best of Luck

Hi Sandie

Here are my thoughts:

I don't think size matters LOL.

I have taken part in several craft exchanges where everyone makes something for everyone else (and one for themselves LOL).

We had one person co-ordinate the exchange and post the items out. Everyone sent their items in a box which could be re-used to send the items out. If everyone includes a large label with their address on it then it can be stuck on the box and makes it a bit easier for the person doing the posting.

The postage cost will vary according to where people live - but as unless the eggs are made around a stone they should be quite light.

It's a good idea if everyone attaches a tag with their name on the each of things they make - so that the recipient knows who made what.

I think it's best just to stick to felting and needlefelting. It takes quite a while to embroider 10 Easter Eggs and we are a felting group after all.

Wendy

Still working on some ideas for this, need your feedback!

Thought Easter eggs would be easy as beginners as well as those more
experienced can do them.

Do we:

Pick a max - min size?

Do we each make one for everyone on this group: eg 10 people on the group
then we each make 9 eggs so each person ends up with an egg from everyone
on the list! Would make a nice decoration in a bowl for easter!!

The eggs would have to be felted but they could be needlefelted, wet
felted, both methods, embroidered on????

All the eggs would need to be sent to a central person with a small amount
to cover the postage on then the eggs divided up and redistributed to each
person!

Just a few suggestions, please add any more or alternatives!!!

Hi Natalie

Its not easy working in isolation and I as we are doing an art that is
really not huge in this country yet, isolation is a big factor. I attend a
fibre group fortnightly, mainly to just have like minded people to be with.

I try to attend workshops meetings etc of other groups but with two school
age children who are involved in karate, and music, I don't have a lot of
time and weekends become a bit sacred.

Hope that this group will develop into a place where we can break down a
bit of that isolation. Doesn't really matter what size this group is as
long as it is meeting a need.

Don't know why the pics wont load, need to look into that, otherwise email
them to me and I will have a go.

Will keep my ear to the ground on the rigid heddle but they don't seem to
come up a lot. I have a rigid heddle (Kromski) and love it, though it is
packed away at the moment.

Hi Julie

Happy New Year!!!

Know what you mean about planning never stopping, my husband wishes he could plug my brain into a computer and download, but then again I don't think that is such a good idea!! :-)

Not much happening here today - it is about 36C and feels like it is going to get hotter!!! Getting stuck into the dreaded paperwork, too hot to felt! My daughters pet rat (yes you read right!!!) has two bird perches close together in his cage that he runs across. He is stretched out looking very dead across those at the moment.

Did get a head and body made for my little dragon yesterday though!

Sorry to hear you had bush fires near you recently, we have come close to having to leave in past years and it is not a nice thought. Even if you don't need to evacuate the smell and the ash are just awful!!!

Got to go, starting to melt, think it might be a good time for a quiet siesta!

Sandie :-)

Why make felted bowls - number one it is fun!!!!!

You can use them for all sorts of things, put your balls of wool in them,
fill them with nuts in the shell, your keys and small change, reels of
cotton, they can hold anything as long as you are not putting wet stuff in
them or food, It will stick to the bowl!!! :-) They look great filled with
felted balls.

I have a vessel I made that is called pumpkin head, will try and load a pic
to the photos!

Good idea about the Easter Eggs.....it would be great to see others artistic ability and get us used to doing exchanges.
I have been very busy with work and also having grandson here for holidays, so not much feltmaking has been going on.  But the interest and planning never stops.
Not very nice about the Eyre Peninsula Fires.....I have rellies there as well as a lot of friends.  I used to live in Port Lincoln and know the area well.
Disasters are all happening, aren't they.  We also had a bushfire near my current home two weeks ago, and the smell of smoke inside the house is only just starting to dissapate.  I have been trying to get rid of it for ages.
See you all

yippee sandie someone to chat with!

I too, feel lost sometimes  working alone.
I don't even have a friend that is into fibre. boohoo.

I have just decided that I don't like this font - to large.
Anyway , an exchange sounds great sandie.
Do we felt egg's? or anything to do with Easter?
By the way, is there anyone out there that lives near Castlemaine?
I don't think there was, was there?
Another thing, I tried to load some new pic's to my file and it would not do so. why?
I have, as I said before only done the work for the summer fest  in Castlemaine.
But I did make an orange and lilac dog that was new and a chicken, as well as some felted cards and some butterfly magnets, along with some Christmas tree ornaments with beads an tassels.

last on my mind for now is a pretty please .. of  I want - need  an Ashford rigid heddle loom and stand in good order please.
I am willing to swap or buy but can not afford to buy on new.
It would be great if anyone know someone who could help.

I noted today in the local rag, that a nice lady in Kyneton vic is selling suri white fleece for 12.50 per kg I think it would be higher micron, but as most don't care , I thought I would tell you anyway.
she has only pets, so does not really know much .

I was also wondering, if you lovely long time felters can tell me why people make small bowls from felt and what do they do with them please?
I am thinking about making one, but then what.
have a good day
p.s sorry to go on so much.

Hi all

I was going to wait until next week to ask this but thought I would do it
this week instead!!!

What have you all been doing??

I am finishing a very modern (actually quite strange looking) needlefelted
fairy, though I think she may end up an angel instead!!!! Also have an idea
for a baby dragon that I want to start today. My girlfriend is coming over
and we are going to needlefelt!

Have felt a bit flat lately, think it must be about time I attended another
workshop, one of the hassles of working on your own is it can become very
isolating.

Hoping to have our website up in the next couple of weeks one of the ideas
I am toying with is having a mini gallery of work (not my own). Thought it
might be a great way to help promote our group.

Cheers

Sandie :-)

Hi Natalie

I was hoping we would have more members, I need to do a bit of a mail out
to try and get some more. Have to say have been a bit in holiday mode!!!

Think everyone is in holiday mode too, next week thought we might have a
roll call and catch up with what everyone is doing.

We were talking exchanges before and I was thinking maybe a felted Easter
egg exchange???? What do you think, what does anyone else think!

Sandie :-)

Hi everyone!
I am back on line.
I see we are all on holidays?
Well, Christmas was nice an easy this year-yippee.
I have sold most of my felted work from the Castlemaine summer spirit show - again yippee.
I have tried to upload for more photos, but the server won't let me for now.
ON the farm side we have had our first foal to our cob colt - a filly named Arawen.
well I hope you all are having a good holiday.

Hi Barb

Can't wait to see the pics of the marriage rug!. Glad your Mum liked her
wrap. Sounds like you have been really busy and still have
lots to do!!!! :-) The wedding also sounds like it is going to be beautiful
though a bit challenging for you and your mum!

>I pack for NZ on Sunday week, then we go to our 2nd son for lunch, prior to
>flying out on Sunday evening, with our youngest, who flies over here next
>Wed for the wedding. :)) We haven't seen her for 11months, then only for 1/2
>day. In fact over the last 7 years we wouldn't have seen her for more that 1
>week in total, so it will be lovely to see her for a whole week, then have a
>week to do our own thing.

Our girls are still at school but we have great relationships and I find it
hard to imagine the time when I wont see them as much, and I do know that
day will come. Enjoy your time with your daughter.

>My husband is working on the laundry, the last room in thehouse to renovate.
>Wow, I'll finally have nearly enough cupboards in the house.

Does one ever have enough storage space?!?!?! Especially us females.

>It is so devastating, the damage from the tsunami, we have been stunned by
>it and so full of sorrow that we can do so little. I'm so frustrated that I
>have linen spare, but no way of sending it. I wish I was in a position to go
>over to work, being a nurse. The best I can do is send money and prayers.

Know how you feel Barb, I am sure many of us have been feeling just the
same, I have sat and watched in horror and frustration.

Better go, back to a normal working week this week!

Keep felting

Sandie :-)
