Hi all
Thought I would write to ask what you are all doing, with children back at
school and hubby back at work, I have to get myself moving and do some work!!
I am working on all sorts of bits and pieces at the moment, sometimes I
wish that only one piece was on the go at once but I would never get much
finished if I did that!! :-)
I am working on a felted floor rug, usually I draw rough outlines of my
designs but this one is just evolving. It is to take to shows and put on
the floor when we are demonstrating drop spindling as if we drop the drop
spindles they may be damaged and then we wont be able to sell them! Sounds
complicated doesn't it!
I am working on a rather strange sculptural piece kinda looks like leaves
at the moment but who knows what it will end up like.
I am making lots of bear heads ready for the craft show workshop I am doing
and also writing a new set of workshop notes.
Have been packaging products ready for upcoming shows (a job I detest).
And still trying to refine our website!!! I believe that this will be a
never ending job.
Think that is about it
Hope you are all well and busy.
Cheers
Sandie :-)

Hi everyone,
We have our 21 yo son home with us at the moment, at my age you become
electricity conscious (well let's face it, I'd rather spend my money on
wool). To turn his computer on there's the tower, monitor, modem, stereo,
fan on stand to keep tower cool, ceiling fan, light. That's just what I
know of.......
We've just had lots of rain at Coffs Harbour the last couple of days, the
goats were looking like drowned rats but the sun has come out today and they
are looking much better.
Cheers
Kerry.
Hi all
Sorry haven't been around, our web site has been taking up more time than
expected, the joys of modern technology. It is up and running but we still
need to do some minor tweaking.
Back to the grindstone today - actually I am back playing. The girls are at
their Nanna's and I thought it time I get back into work mode, have some
serious dying to do today and back to the felt making!!
Had a great day yesterday, some of our fibre group combined with ladies
from a couple of other spinning groups and we met at my friends place in
Kangaroo Valley to have a dying day (Sounds a bit like a cult experience
doesn't it!!) There were 14 of us and the day was spent experimenting with
microwave dying. It was a great day, lovely company, beautiful peaceful
setting and playing with fibre couldn't ask for more. The only sad thing
was I ventured into my friends spinning shed (she sells spinning supplies!)
and two 250gm bags of fibre jumped off the shelf and into my arms and I had
to take them home, pocket was $20 lighter but am looking forward to playing
today.
What has everyone else been up to!
Hopefully some interesting things!
Take care
Cheers
Sandie

I did a workshop with Rachel Meek once in Western Australia. It was great, and boy, does she do some great work. I still have the cape which I did in the workshop, have never bothered to put it up for sale. But, I am thinking of altering it in some way.
I would be very interested in going in the scarf exchange if possible. I have been in several, but not for a few years now. I really enjoy working on a scarf and getting a complete surprise in the mail when the time came. That is why I like the idea of the Easter exchange.
Yes I will be at Bathurst at the fiber muster. Did you know they are having a scarf competition as part of the muster? I have the details at the shop and can post them if anyone is interested. I believe they can be felted, woven knit etc. Do you know Rachel Meek? She well be at the muster and she does beautiful felting and dying.
Hi Allison
Happy New Year!!! Great to see you back and please lurk as much as you
need! Just send a message now and then to let us know you are lurking, a
wave will do!!! :-)

Congratulations on the sales.Any sales in arts or crafts in this country is impressive and you your style must be individual and unique to have found a niche. Well done!
PS I will not be participating in the Easter eggs. My excuse is nowhere as impressive as bathing 79 goats though. Just life is taking a different turn.....I will proabably just lurk here for a while if folks dont mind...

Hi all
I have put some of my hats in the gift shop at the Bathurst Art Gallery and they have sold 3 needle felted hats and one wet felted hats. They will be closed for three weeks and when the reopen in Feb. I will be putting in some felted bags.
Scarf sales haven't been as good as in the past so have taken some of the scarves and refelted them so they are harder and made them into "sleep bags" little bags filled with lavender and wheat to put on you pillow, they look and smell great. I will also make some into phone bags, little bags so you can wear you phone around your neck. Any other idea's for saleable items from felt? I have done felted soap, egg cosies and slippers. Also have made wall hangings and masks but prefer to make functional items.
Dear Sandie,
Sorry I don't have time to make eggs.
I've got too much on my plate at the moment. Tried to bath 79 goats the
other day. It had been 40 plus degrees, so got someone to come and help us.
Bathed the babies, about 20 of them, and then came the wind and the rain.
Poor little babies were cool for the rest of the day. So have to try again,
then it's time to shear them, I usually do that myself, so will let you know
when I've surfaced.
Regards Kerry.
PS Can you tell me when the Bathurst muster is on?
Hi Wendy
Postage stamps sounds marvellous!!!! My brain is not functioning well at
the moment, have spent too many hours at the computer trying to finalise

Just wondering whether it would be possible to put postage stamps (or a $5 note) in the box instead of a money order as I think money orders cost about $2 to purchase.

Hi Wendy
Thank for the feedback, thats pretty much how the exchanges I have been in have worked.
BTW I didn't mean to suggest we embroider the eggs, I just thought as a bit of embellishment!!! :-) Had visions of sitting for hours making embroidered eggs!! LOL
Need to get an idea of who is interested in the exchange:
Each person will need to make an egg for every one who takes part.
The eggs are to be posted in a box with a return label and a money order for the return postage.
The eggs are obviously to be felted, needle or traditional or a combination of both!
Anyone who is interested needs to let me know by the 31st of January. Eggs to be received by the 12 of March to be sent back out the week of Easter.
Does that sound fair to everyone????? Please let me know if it isn't.
I am happy to organise this but if someone has a burning to desire to take charge of it, please feel free to offer.

Hi everyone,
The marrriage rug was a huge success, My sister & her new husband
love it. We ended up using it in part of the ceremony, which went
down very well. I'm waiting for my daughter in law to email me a
picture of it so I can post it online.
I made it to tell the story of marriage, with the rough & the smooth
& the winding road that it takes, with colour and neutral, all in
the design.
The wedding was not able to be down by the river, as there had been
soooo much rain. However, despite the fact that it was still very
soft underfoot on Friday, on Saturday it was a delightfull 25deg
(after 2 weeks of mostly rain.)
It was lovely on Sunday, too, & we flew to NZ (for 1st time) with
our daughter who lives here, after the barbque that wasn't. Our son
made pizzas instead in his home made pizza oven.
We have had a great time, travelling around the Northlands,
beautiful scenery, friendly folk.
Next week we travel a little south of Auckland. I hope to catch up
with some felters here, but I left addresses back home, so will have
to ring a friend for them. I haven't seen any felt so far on my
journey, which is dissapointing, as I know there is some great stuff
done in NZ.
We are going to see Cirque de Soleil next Saturday :)))
Julie & SAndee, I'm glad the fires have left you be, I hope you
remain safe.
The easter egg idea is a great one, hope I can get going with some.
TTFN LOL Barb Mewburn. barbam@...
Yes I'm in the hatmaking. It was a tossup between that and felting. Kerry.

Glad to hear that you do manage to share your felting time with someone else....even if they do not felt. It does somehow give one that extra incentive to be creative. Not to forget that even watching what others are doing, the inspiration for design and methods of creativity will get the juices flowing. I know that because my mother is a quiltmaker. We often share ideas and she always gets me to have a look at her work before she puts it all together, because she values my colour co-ordination and design placement. I also tend to go overboard a little with design on my own work, so I in turn, value her opinion in placement and practicability. She shows me a lot of things that my felt can be applied to, so we are both on a win/win situation. I might mention that my mother is 83 years old, and still churns out quilt after quilt after quilt, and does not look like stopping. Only two months ago, she purchased a new sewing machine, having worn out her last one.
I will not be able to go to the Orange Forum, but plan to go to the Geelong one in Sept/Oct then on to the felting convergence in Canberra. I have to take my annual leave from my job for it, and it is a long way from Perth, so I can only do it once in a long while.

Hi everyone. Even here in Oberon where the summer temperature rarely exceeds 25 we expect a hot,hot 34 today. Had to go to Bathurst yesterday and it was 39. Lots of felting ideas rolling around but too hot to start. Did finish a bag this week Needle felted over a piece of foam 35cm square, 5cm thick with two corner rounded. Then wet felted. Made two long cords, one for handle, other for draw string, attached large felt flowers to the front. Very pleased with the results. If driving long distances is a problem for you, why don't you advertise and start a group going in your home town. Put up notices, and in the paper, have a small gathering and demo at your home to start with, then you would be surprised to find how many people will be interested in joining you on a regular basis. My sister is a spinner, and went to a fairly isolated town in WA, no spinners there, so that is what she did. She had a large following, and eventually they met in a place central to them all, in the town. Even though she has now left the town, the group still goes on nice and strong, so the news is. Try it, Nat.....it can't hurt. You may even be able to get a couple more experienced feltmakers from the Guild to come up and help demo, have some fibres available in kit form packs for sale on the day, get them to bring a plate for lunch to share the first time round, then after, bring their own lunches. Don't charge for first time, except for fibre to be sold, or get a donation for the Tsunami fund or similar. Ideas can be forthcoming all the time.
