I don't think that proviso should deter anyone Krishna.......the other point to mention is that if Life DOES get in the way,all a member needs to do is post a message to that effect and keep talking with the group;
They dont need to think people will think badly of them if they are upfront and say "things are difficult"
I'd LOVE to participate, but at the moment my DH has  just gone into Palliative care and most of my waking moments are spent keeping him company.
Good luck with the swap.

Hi ,
Like you said Sandie and Barb buying what you "need'
not what you want has been a thorny question for
years I think we all know about
it :) . My daughter keeps saying "if anything happens
to you Mum" Well, I tell her it's all yours dear!!
Thank you Julie for thinking about me! Saturday and
Sunday was so wild I kept thinking any minute there
will be a polar bear or penguins on the verandah!!
Such strong winds. Twisted street signs and branches
from the trees. WOW!! I wonder how the little birds
survive it all. I actually did another scarf with the
silk hankies but do you put wool on both sides?
Getting it to hang together plus all the other goodies
was hard. Have fun
at the workshop Julie. Meg

When you posted that you would get out the paints, it reminded me of a retreat that we had over here in the West, when we were in a class that was for colour play.  Everyone had to do designs with Pastels on paper, then create the same in felt.   It was a great workshop, and lots of lovely colourful ideas came forth.  Maybe that would prove inspirational for you.

Raining and windy and cold over here - always think of Meg down there in Augusta, who experiences it about 3 degrees cooler than up here.

Oh Sandy, I do understand. I got it from my grown kids & husband. One of
my daughters was trained as a dressmaker too. I simply told them, with
my head held High that it's a Tool, to make my work easier, to improve
my variety of skills, was very versatile what could be done with it. &
that it was none of their business what I paid for it. Mind you, on that
note, I didn't get the Babylock, only 'cos I couldn't afford it as I
knew that we were obligated to go to the UK for our daughter's wedding
reception! I had explained, over many years, that I was acquiring the
necessary tools whilst working, that I would need in my retirement :) In
other words, I don't tell them what to do with their money, they can
MTOB about mine.

I do hope you have a great time despite the probable lecture. My trick
is to get in first & agree with them what I know that they will say,
therefore taking the wind out of their sails. ( still didn't say how
much I paid, except that it was on a great special & that I'm so looking
forward to using it. You can always suggest that if she's going to make
life a pain for the day, that perhaps she might be happier staying at
home, as You are going to enjoy yourself anyway!

Have fun playing with it. I'm sure you'll put it to good use. We all
have to grow and change with our craft. Just think of all the famous
artists in life and how their work moved on and changed over their life.

Best Wishes for a lovely day & wonderful weather.

That's great, house painting can be sooo boring, thank goodness I
can't do it anymore. It's good to try something different isn't it? I
did manage to sand down the ends of a cot for my daughter last week. I
bought a top of the range one 2nd hand locally very reasonably :). My
husband, who's a builder btw, estapolled it, as I guess he wanted to
make sure it was right :-D

I'm about to tootle down the street on the red devil ( mobility
scooter). Tried driving, but craning my neck to get out of our street -
it's a v sharp angle- & reversing out of parking is still iffy, but
getting better every day. I've tootled down a few times now, so am
getting quite experienced. talk about rock'n'roll. You have to lean the
opposite way that it rolls, unlike on a bike. All hats off to the golden
oldies who have a go.

Not much time for felting though, as it takes 1/2 hour to get down to
the shops. Lots of interesting things to see , so I should use it as
ideas time eh? I'm thinking of a wall hanging in primitive stylised look
of me flying down the hills, rugged up for the Antarctic (Might have to
machine embroider the details, though, which I only do freehand, as I
don't have an embroidery machine. I'm getting better at using the
embellishing machine for detail, but it's harder to see very fine
things & easy to overdo it- causing a hole. The joys of mixed media & no
rules though, in our work. :-)

We have a very pretty town here, rolling hills everywhere, with lovely
gardens and street trees. Even the roundabouts and divided areas of the
main Northern street are landscaped. Mostly with low growing &
constantly groomed shrubbery. In a way, I'll be sorry to be back in the
car again. Unfortunately, it's too hilly & too far for me to walk into
town. I generally walk on the walking track or around the centre of town
where it's flatter. My favourite walking track near here has woodland,
wetland and some open areas. It goes for about 10km if one does the
whole circuit, over a couple of roads & under the railway bridge. On the
way there are a couple of playgrounds & picnic areas. Lots of things for
inspiration, when I remember to take a camera. There are so many
different trees & ducks, fungi, etc., as well as people walking, riding,
jogging, strolling with bubs & dogs. We are so fortunate.

Now the weather is warming again, I shall get back on it , although I
have to drive or tootle there in the first place as it's too steep for
me to get up the street at this end & back up the street at the other end.

Tomorrow, if it's fine again, I'm going outside to do some needle
felting. Have to finish the boots. & get on with the portrait. I'd
better make some prefelts for it tonight, if I can stay awake. Due to
the meds, I tend to sleep for a couple of hours in my recliner. the TV
is great for that.

Happy felting all of you. I'm a bit envious of all the galleries,
courses and markets, fetes that you are attending. I'd love to have the
energy & money to do it all. Congratulations to all who have exhibited
and especially to you Wendy, for winning at the beanie competition. I'd
love to go up there one day & have a look at it.

Here's to inspiration available to all of you + wellness of mind, body &
spirit

Morning all,

Feeling better today, thanks. Spent yesterday painting a canvas purple with yellow lilies, not too bad. Think I will reproduce it as a nuno felted scarf and as a piece of felt. Love the colour combination.

Even updated the etsy shop and blog spot. I am a bit hopeless at keeping these thing up to date.

Just doing some browsing on ebay, someone is selling a Janome embellisher if any one wants to see what they look like.

Search felting. No affiliations. Etc

Hi Krishna,

I understand just how it is, believe me. Good on you with the chocolate,
I find that if I have the urge, that if I buy at 70% or 80% I can get
away with only eating one or two pieces. It's an indulgence that I'll
only give into about 4 x year now, however. Like you, I battle with my
head & emotional eating.

Now I'm managing to take the bottle of water, come up to this room & do
something, even if it's surf for visual delights of craft. I have some
books on other crafts, rugmaking, colour work with embroidery, stump
work + heaps of machine embroidery mags & some books. Even gardening
mags can inspire thoughts. Good on you for getting out the canvas &
having a go at painting. I used to do a lot of silk painting, which can
be so much like water colours.

I've cleared the decks & hope to start a bit of wet felting again next
week, now that I've got my dreaded paperwork sorted out. Pat I've used
some of your batts, & shall finish the boots this weekend. Hubby's gone
fishing :-) . My body is slowly improving, so a little at a time will be
the way to go. I have always battled with finishing items, ADS I guess.
That's why I loved silk painting and adore felting. The results can be
so immediate, certainly quicker than many other things. I love the
variety of the medium. Many times, however, I've been stumped for ages,
having been bogged down with other things.

As Sandie says, just play. If nothing else, make up some pieces of
pre-felt, perhaps hand card or handmix some colours together. You could
try making a landscape by just adding prefelt pieces or needle felt -
not with any picture in mind, just let it happen. This is what we did
with Brigitte Krag-Hansen, it was great.

best wishes, & thankyou for keeping this site going

Hi All
Just received a nice cheque in the mail from Alice Springs. Got my act together this year and sent 4 felt beanies, 2 for the competition, didn't win but got a special mention in the felt section, and 2 for the general sales. All four sold.
They had 4790 beanies for sale and sold 3150 for $103,500 as well as 100 of the hats entered in the competition for $10,000. Not bad hey!
The letter says there will be changes to the festival next year so keep an eye on their web site.
Congratulations Wendy Burgess on your two RAS wins in the felt article/garment and in the hand felted sculpture, rug.
Still haven't had time to play with my new felting machine that I took delivery of at Bendigo, soon I hope.

I tried out the Babylock embellisher at the Stitches and Craft Show yesterday. It has 7 needles instead of the 5 that most embellishers have, and you can take out 4 needles to have a thin straight line of 3 needles for fine embellishing. It attached a piece of silk to a piece of hand made felt in about 30 seconds.

I was very impressed  - but there is no way I can afford a $1300 machine.  :-(

Good morning everyone.
Krishna, I some times get like this but what I do is have a look thought some books or at some web sites or I have made over the years an inspiration book of pictures I have picked up from magazines, over the web or my own ideas that I have marked down when thinking of them.lol
I carry a note book in my bag and another in my house to jot down ideas as they come.

On another note, I was ordering fibre from first editions  and they said Virginia farms gets their white merino from another place not them only the solid colour's and silk mix come from them.
He also said that it is thought that the tops in spotlight are in fact theirs! The only thing is they are NOT the ones selling it to spotlight!
Just a little bit of gossip for you all.

I am in the process of setting up a DIY website with shop front/cart to sell hand  dye random colour merino, alpaca, silk and angora from  my own flock, a little bit will be offered natural and the items I make both fibre art,  digital art and paper crafts. I will not be going into solid colour's as I feel there are already many great  folk doing this.

Next is another lovely person I order from this week, who has the web site (ewe give me the knits), Mandie was very fast and helpful in postage as well as having good prices and a nice range of things to buy.I bought a lot of landscape dyes from her @10.45 per jar of 100g, I don't know if this is good or not buy it sounded ok.
Take care and happy felting all
Hugs Nat

Almost forgot.
Arts Out West (NSW) sends practicing artist to small country schools to show them the work they do and teach a workshop. Time is limited, just 2 hours and ages will be varied. This year I went to Lagoon School, about 45klms from Oberon, there are 17 students in the school. The challenge is to come up with a workshop that is suitable for all the students.
I had them cover a foam egg with to layers of felting batt, black for the inside, coloured for the outside, wrap with wool yarn then dip in soapy water and felt. After they were fully felted we cut open the top and removed the egg. Finished with 15 minutes to spare. The students were the nicest bunch and all really enjoyed the class. I left them with ideas how they could add embellishments. All the projects from all the small schools are then shown at a venue in Bathurst.
My next class is near Mudgee next Monday where I will teach 15 women how to needle felt hats.
Its just over a 2 hour drive from here. A friend who is writing a book will go with me and do research at the library while I teach, then we will stay over and return the next day.
In between I hope to get 60 batts made and shipped by next Friday.

Hi Krishna,

I never used to have this problem but for the past few years it has reared
its ugly head. For me it happens when there is information overload, you
know getting the kids organised, running around organising our household,
working blah, blah, blah, blah blah!!! I find my creativity gets put on the
back curner and for me that creates huge blockages!!

It has taken me a little while to find what works for me but now I play, I
dont have any deadlines, no goal of what I am making, no expectations (not
even that this will solve the uncreative frump!) just pick up some fibre
and fiddle. Sometimes they end up being works of art, other times they are
scribbles but if I keep making space to do that I find suddenly my mind is
full of ideas (sometimes too much!!!)

If I have been felting a lot I sometimes have to pick up and play with some
other medium.

Hope you are feeling a little less flat soon!!

Enjoy your weekend!

Sandie :-)

Hi all,

Remember today is our trading day.

I am having a felting block this week and haven’t done any felting. Suffering from a lack of motivation. Feeling a bit flat,

Does anyone else get like this? If so any tips on getting out of it would be appreciate it.

Have a good day?

Krishna Ellis

Hi Pat

Congrats on the special mention for your beanie. I had a look on the Beanie Festival competition video on the website - your hat is wonderful.

Let us know how you get on with the felting machine - was it the same one they had at the Convergence?

Wendy

Hi All
Just received a nice cheque in the mail from Alice Springs.

Hi all

As today is our trading day, just wanted to let you know if anyone is
interested I can get embellishers for a good price around 400 dollars.

They are a 5 needle machine, 5 hole plate, safety guard, adjustable height,
individual needles are replaceable and they are around $1.25 per needle.
1000 spm.

They are a Merrylock and my demo one has arrived today so I will let you
know how it goes.

Cheers

Sandie :-)
