Hi Ardione,
How is the soap felting coming. Do you felt over the bar of soap? When I make felted soap, I make a flat piece of felt, felt to the point that it still has some give, then using the soap as a template, adding a seam allowance, cut out two disks to cover soap. Whip stitch or blanket stitch over soap. The disks can be embellished with a needle felted design. The felt will continue to felted tighter around the soap as it is used. More control and not as messy as felting directly over the soap. I then put felted soap on a grooved pine soap dish and tie with a wide organza ribbon to sell.  I have some of the soap dishes to sell as well. Will put details on Friday's Market Day List.

HI Meg and other feltettes,

Thanks for the tips.

Anyone else got any great ideas.

I haven’t been doing too much felting, just making dreadlocks and a couple of needlefelted mermaids.

Mainly sewing and trying to finish a few things that have been hanging around for just too long.

All the best.

Hello out there!
How is everyone? Felting I hope. I have been sorting
out my craft bookcase and found some old newsletters
from various places. One was from from S.A. I think
it was Ing Evers or Inge Flint. Does anyone know?
Julie would. Felt tips was one of there articles and I
thought that I would pass them on. Keeping champagne
cold! Wrapping round bycycle handle bars for
comfort! Making a cooler bag for bringing ice cream
home from the shops! Not sure about that one. There
were more, but another time! Am using the embellisher
and have made a bag with wool decorationson the
front. Meg in warmish Augusta!

Thanks so much Natalie and Krishna for the lovely welcome!  I just stumbled upon this group, and was a “little” excited, as it’s so nice to be in an Aussie group.    I’ve made a few wet felted items, including a seamless bag, vessel, mobile phone pouches and a couple of scarves.  I’d like to make a teapot cosy next……       Haven’t done any felting though for a few months now – ‘cause of the time it takes…..   I did do a course with Polly Stirling – now she is amazing!!!!!

Thanks for having me in the group.

hello everyone,
have just posted a piece on my blog that I've been trying to make for a while,
haven't been very vocal on the list, as Yahoo lists don't like my
blog address but it is now linked to my website which Yahoo likes so
now I won't end up in spam boxes never to see the light of day again

cheers - let me know what you think

When felting around pencils or pens, start with wrapping the wool around 4 pencils, then when firmsed, take out one, then felt down again to the three, when firm, take out another pencil, two pencils, take out one and so on.  Then put the pen in that you want, felt it hard down to that pen.  That way, you will get a very firm felt all nicely shrunk down.
Have fun.  You can also do this when making beads.

Hi Ardione,

You have a very unusual name! I did a class in nuno felting but my hands found it hard going! So then didn't do anything in the felting area except to use a felting needle to attach hair to some of my cloth dolls. With my embellisher I hope to change all that, and of course keep up my "ordinary" patchwork and quilting, and looking after my native animals, + DH and DD, then 3 dogs, a horse, some chooks (our place is a "retirement home" for unwanted chooks) and my geese, and also cruise around the wonderful web!!

Look forward to hearing from all of you at some time,

hugz,

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Hope you enjoy the embellisher and the group.  I am living up at very wet Mapleton and have just spent the last week working at very wet and muddy Woodford. (the kids loved it).
Do you do much wet felting as well? At the moment this is my main passion.

 Some inspiration ?!

Felting's of wonderful faces? Or flowers like this email background?
-this seasons kids/ragdoll x  Himalayan kittens.

Maybe a really soft silk wrap with fading flowers.
Maybe a really bright wall hanging or coat with odd shapes from pre felts.
Try a hat is that's what you like or get a beach ball and stocking and felt a vessel.
I go for walks around the bush and find ideas popping out of my head! Lol
I have to carry a book with me.
Take a look at your town or city's  buildings and amaze yourself with their pattens and sometimes odd  shapes.
Carol and I went to a paper show and on root stopped  to look at the wonderful new buildings around  port Melbourne, I got lots of ideas.

Books are great... Like the one I just got that the U.S list is going on about Uniquely Felt .
Have fun

Hi Ardione,

I had friends that went to Woodford, girls I taught to make felted belly dancing belts. Shame about the weather.

I am sure we all feel discouraged. I just think about how much I enjoy handling the lovely fibres and the surprise when you dry a piece of felt and see how it turned out. Also felting books, felting blogs and looking at felting websites on the net can help you to feel inspired. Don’t give up and don’t be too hard on yourself, we all have down times. Sometimes it helps just to have a rest and do something else for a while.

All the best,

Krishna Ellis

Hi Krishna and all,

My name is Bonnie and I live in Caboolture, Queensland Australia. Normally
it would be very hot at this time of year BUT we have had one "tropical
low", not quite a cyclone but almost, and are preparing for another "low",
so there has been lots of rain and wind.

I just bought my Huskystar embellisher today and have been on the net
looking for advice etc so am open to all ideas etc

I belong to a local quilting group and also volunteer at the Australian
Wildlife Hospital and at the moment am caring for 3 possums - 2 that were
orphaned and one that has a bad case of possum dermatitis.

Regards,

Bonnie

Have fun
Hugs Nat

Happy New Year to you too Meg! And to all you other Feltettes as well.

I have a great feeling about this year - going back to school (vis arts & contemporary crafts certs. 1 & 2 this year) and plans for making things to sell at various outlets.

Hope everyone has a creative 2008!

love Caz :)

Hello Feltettes,
Happy New Year. We watched the fireworks on TV from
Sydney. Very spectacular. So we did see in the new
year. Being a Scot originally I opened the windows to
let the old year out and the new year in. My Mother
always did it! Getting more like my Mum every day. My
daughter has the same problem :-) . Am looking out all
my felt to make bags with some embellishments. Full of
ideas I am. Hope it all works!! Meg.
