Hello all,
I will be in the swap please! I did not comment on the embellisher. Mine is a Janome. So
far I have not broken any needles. Perhaps you are pulling the material or going to fast!!
Haven't heard from the technician about the sander. Hopefully I will be able to use it.
Off to design a handbag!!! Meg

Hi everyone.

Julie, it was my pleasure to give nice comments .- I DO really like your art.

As to lessons, your ideas sound good to me, maybe we should ask the group what they would like to make first?

I was wondering it it was possible to machine felt a bag enough to use? Or would one always need to wet felt some?
I have just joined a needle machine group to learn some more I hope.

On groups, I see there is another Aussie felt group?? Is somebody unhappy???

Another tip with the felt machine, Last night I was playing and decided that , now I have removed the plate, there is a bit of dip and that the fine wet felt that I was mucking around with was being sucked down the much larger hole. ..... So I fixed that by making four card board plate's with the hole in them. Worked a treat! It gave that extra bit of support needed.

Have a good day
Hugs

Subject: [AussieFeltmakers] lessons

Hi Natalie

Maybe if I were to compose a lesson, I would add it as an attachment to this list so that I know just the members were the recipients.  As mentioned, I do not have a web site.

Thank you for your nice comments about me.  I am very humble and do not consider myself to be very talented.   But I do what I can, and what I do know is technique. And I do like to pass on my knowledge of those techniques.  I am not in the least bit artistic.  I try to convince myself that I am, hence my felting tag name.

With regards to the wall hangings, I wet felted them all to start with, but some of the silk did not adhere properly, so used the huskystar to finish the job.  Also added a couple of other things after the initial felting was done.  Then I embellish them with machine embroidery with my ordinary sewing machine, which I purchased for that purpose.  I am not a seamstress, so I normally do not get on too well with a sewing machine.  I bought a Toyota which has a darning attachment.  It lives on the machine.

Needles on the husky are easy to remove when broken, and I do break them pretty often myself, and then I was discussing this with one lady at the Toss and Tell day that I went to last weekend, and she gave me the tip that I should remove the plate under the needles just as you mentioned, Nat.  I am looking forward to doing some more and having less needles broken, as I generally have gone through at least 5 needles per project, and that is a cause for concern, as they are $18 per pack of 5.

Sorry you did not get too many replies when researching the Embellisher. I thought that I made a comment on the list, but since I generally delete all my own comments, I have no way of knowing.  Well, anyway we can all have discussions on what we have done with them now.....maybe that will suffice for future reference.

Well, off to do some more......got to take advantage of my last weekend off for three weeks.

Best wishes to all

How about the method - are we to stick only to wet felting for the entire bag? Would this include the handle (so as to practise ropes for example) or is another material acceptable for that?

Hi Julie
On Blogger to make a list of links you go to the customise layout and click on the links button.
I am not sure if blogspot is the same but most of the blog sites are similar. Hope this helps.
Ardione,
Put me down for the swap. I bought a form for needlefelting yesterday and DH made me a holder for the needles. I'll take a photo and put up his instructions. Really easy and works like a charm.

Good afternoon everyone.

YES PLEASE Add me to the swap.

Thanks Julie for offering your time and knowledge with any lessons that might be done.
I consider Julie one of the most knowledgeable felter's here!
Her work /art is away's of a high standard.

As to how ...... mmm, well on some other groups that I have been on.You could either use a web site to post a lesson to the group to print out  or  With the website,   everyone pops off to the site to down load the lesson. We have a set time allowed to make the item.As we all work though the making, we can post to the group as we come across any problems or just chat about how we are going and what we think about that lesson. Then we can have a show and tell !

Just some thoughts

Well, I was a bit surprised to not see any thoughts on the felting machines that I asked for.

Anyway, after doing a net hunt and going off to my sewing machine store. I have bought a Pfaff. I did want the husky star, as Julie owns one ( found that out on her blog) - she has made some nice wall hangings using it.
Anyway, it turns out that the husky and the pfaff are the same machine with different skins!
I personally like that husky pattern but that shop was sold out of that one.
They have been so much in demand, that only one Pfaff and three Janome were left.
I have played with my new buddy this morning to make a areal view of stone henge, for a school project.
I broke 8 needles in 5mins!!!!!
Do you think I was heavy handed??LOL
Well, I have learnt now and I have also removed the needle plate to fix the issue.

I LOVE the embellisher!
You all must try one.

The Janome, made a lot of noise and the needle's were larger and so  made big holes in the felt.
To top this off , it was going to cost $80.00 every time I wanted to change the 5 needle holder !
With the pfaff it only cost $18 for 5 individual needles.
I have also been told that the pfaff/husky has a better made motor and should last longer.

Hugs

I guessed you copped the weather that hit Perth??

I haven't forgotten you gals, but have been busy gearing up for a "two woman show" featuring "art quilts"/slash needle felting in one of our local Libraries in south east Queensland.

I must admit that I thought it would be " a stroll in the park".............VBG(I've learned otherwise)

I am three weeks behind in the Dale Rollerson on-line Embellish/stitch and Enrich. course......and it only started 3 weeks ago :-(

January, the same Library has booked me in for a "display of Postcards" Entitled"A postcard from where....................?"

plus one or two "How to make a fabric & Fibre Postcard" workshops..........What mnonster have I unleashed>??

Best wishes to you all

Hi Julie,
Just tried to get on to your blog. Seems there is maintenance going on!? Not
much felting going on here. Too cold in the "shed". We had a spin -in last weekend
and some great felting on show. Now they know what we do in Augusta!! Glad to hear all is well.
Hello to all feltettes!
Welcome to the new felters. Has anyone heard from Sandie? I bought a sander
but because I have a heart monitor I have had to check with the technician who monitors it
in case I should not use something like that . After seeing how quick it is I hope that
I can work with it. Meg in very stormy Augusta. ------------------------------------

Hi Meg

Sorry that you cannot get onto my blog at the moment.  Did not realise that you cannot and that there was some kind of maintenance going on.  Better luck on your next try.

It is cold and stormy here too, we had a lot of rain yesterday, I spent a fair old time at the office mopping up water as it rained that was coming through the underneath of the door.  Its so cold I have had the heater going today.  The government won't like me, after the gas explosion, but I am not going to do it tough and freeze when they don't.

I hope that the technician says that the Sander will not affect the heart monitor.  So long as you are careful and use the circuit breaker on the switch and prevent the water from coming up into the little motor, I don't forsee that it would be a problem.  All I feel is a little vibration in the hands when I use mine.

How many girls have you got felting now in Augusta?  You would have enough for a small group to meet regularly now, wouldn't you??

Stay warm

What a great idea for a swap, Peta.  A bag would be far better than a vessel to put in the post.  And I do love to make bags.  It would be second on my list of favourites to make with felt.  I love wall hangings best.  Still have a few of those on the go too.  Thanks for the compliment on the blog.  I really am new at that....blogging, that is.  I cannot seem to get the photos to go in the correct places though, as I would like to see one or two of the pictures next to each of the entries, but it did not work that way.  They all seem to want to go to the top.  I don't know how to put in all my favourite links either.

The idea of on line classes sounds good in theory, Nat.  I wonder how it could be done??!!  I would be willing to contribute as a tutor.  Not sure how it could be done, so if any of the brainy are out there.......please come forward.  I do not have a web site, and I suspect it could be done that way, heck, I know that it could be done that way.

I cooked up a storm today for my parents.  They are celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary today.  I don't usually get into the cooking, but today I felt like I wanted to do it.  I baked fish and veges, and instead of cauliflower cheese, we had a cauliflower with Thai green curry sauce.  We had it for lunch.  Both of them enjoyed it thoroughly.

Cheers for now

Hi Nat,

you're a clever little possum, aren't you! A fortnightly lesson is just what I could do with.

I know that there's quite a few folk here that have this felting caper in the bag (yourself, for instance!) and I for one would love to have some practical advice on a regular basis.

Perhaps a few of the more experienced of the group could collude and come up with some kind of plan. If there was two sessions each month, and say, six people were willing to offer their technical expertise - they would be the 'featured tutor' once each three months.

There's a yahoo group called The Artists Circle that have monthly lessons (lots of different media and topics) where a project is divided into four files - one of which is uploaded to the files section of the group each week of the month. the group members ask and answer questions relating to that weeks subject and post photos of their work in progress.

I would love to see our group a little more active, and something along these lines would certainly keep me honest and accountable!

Any other thoughts/comments?

Caz :)

Hi Ardione, I have never made one but love to have a go.
With guide lines, I just meant that we all do the same style of felting, not that any had to show us how.lol

Although being that we are now 70 odd, maybe we could have a lesson every two weeks  and send the photos in to the group ?
We could chat about how we are doing as a group while making.

Hugs

Hi Natalie,

I like the idea of a Vessel for a swap. Just have to nut out the guidelines (unless you want to do that for me). I would be happy to do the receiving and  sending .

Hello everyone!

A warm welcome to any new feltpersons that may have joined over that last few weeks.

Some of you may have notice that i was off line? Well i am back again.

Gee Julie, i am sorry say, i just  don’t know anyone who see's the inside of a hospital as much as yourself, that is who is not a nurse!

So sorry to read that you had another stay. I am glad that you are feeling better now though.

SWAP- Yes please! Love swaps but can we maybe be more refined in what we are or how we should make our next swap?

What i mean,  is we say, do another scarf swap, then we should all do say nuno, or wet or a combo with say some needle felting embellishment?

Maybe we could do something on a needle-felting machine?

Or Vessles?

Just some ideas. I really felt that i had not done my best with the last, as almost everyone used silk nuno.

With time being short, i need more guide lines.-sorry.

Ardione, i missed why you went into hospital, but happy to read your out now.-stay well.

Well done pat on being a Power seller on ebay.!

Is Sandy still with us?  Hi, if you are.

I really need some expert knowledge, I am about to buy a needle felting machine.

I have $500.00 to send.

So whom do i take home in this price range??

I want to use it two/three times a week for my market stall items and for my new on line items. ALL ideas and thoughts are very welcome.

THANK YOU

Carol and i are now on school holidays, as well as our dear children. Carols first born turned 18 the other day! Like.... we really know about it when our children become adults! lol

We have been doing a bit of felting in our course, i was most delighted to hear at the beginning of the course this was part of it, but after having now done so, I was some what sadden to see 15 or so folks walk away not really understanding or learning how to really felt!!

We were told to throw alpaca down on a sheet roll it up and bang in a washing machine.

Yes, most did felt to some degree, but many had trouble and no idea how to deal with it! Some HATED this so called felting!

In the end carol and myself tried to help as best we could, but i could hardly take over the class and show up the  teacher, could i?

well that just about does it.

please take care over the holidays.

hugs

Although I like the idea of a vessel for a swap, I am at a loss as to see how it is practical in respect of mailing.  It also takes such a long time to felt a vessel to my satisfaction, as I started one  last year, and am still working on it.........maybe I am a bit perdantic.

Cheers to all

Julie

Hello Ardione

I hope that you will recover fast from your trip to the Hospital.  I know that when I had my recent trip there, it seemed like I would never get over it.  I had a stomach operation.  But now, I feel great, and am back on the treadmill, back felting and back living life to the fullest.

Take care

Julie
