Hi All I am interested in finding out more on the felting machines. The ones where you put it in and then it rolls it for you. Has anyone got one and if yes then what are your thoughts and where did you get it, how much etc. thanks in advance.

Hello Ardione,
Thank you for the "inspirational" bag. Received it yesterday. I will be
searching the beach on
the Southern Ocean for my next design! :) Not that I have enough inspirational
things on the
shelf of the "studio". Beautifully made. Thank you
Check out ATASDA ( Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design). There is a QLD branch now, lots of workshops and I know of several feltmakers that are members. www.atasda.org.au
Natalie, the bag was made with a batt, the centre panel if silk and superfine merino prefelt. Glad you like it.
Very busy washing & dying mohair. Not my favorite job.
Yesterday was spring like but today is a reminder that winter isn't over yet.
Thankyou for the welcome Krishna. I see you have another Pat so maybe I
can be pjpatch. Is that Ok?
I am a textile artist and need to create so love to try most crafts.
Felting in my most recent.
Does anyone know if there is a group or teacher in the Brisbane area?

Hello Pat,
Glad you like the bag! I did use pre/felts that I made for decoration on a
jacket that I was
working on. Never finished the jacket :-) Might get it together this week! !!!
Famous last
words. Meg
I have spent the last week moving and have just got the emails working again. I think all the bags have arrived now so I will photo them and send. I am not sure when I will be able to put the photos on the site as I need my partner to do this and he is doing a six week training course in Brisbane. Not good timing for moving, so I am feeling very stressed and down also.
I have moved to a fab home in Maleny and love being "home" again as I was born and breed here. Dianne, found a mutual friend of your daughter so I hope to met her soon.
My, My, we are very quiet on this list right now. What's everyone up too?
I personally had a bad week last week with feeling very down about my drawing skills and then this led to felt art and this things I really want to make but never seem to get the time or the ideas one has that never seem to turn out right! Lol
Anyway, I am back on top again this week.
Just wondering if my bag has arrived yet?
Have a felting day.
Hugs Nat
P.s can anyone help please ? I do not seem to be able to get a working link to my etsy store.

We are off to Byron Bay tomorrow until the 13th of Aug. Taking a lot of stuff to make hats. See if I can get some beanies made. Will also take some batts and other stuff to show to feltmakers we will meet on the way. If anyone is close by I would love to meet you.
If my bag for the swap hasn't been mailed back yet, could you please hold on to it until Friday the 8th.
Many thanks to all the members who gave me help on Frontloader felting
As a newie I am still confused as to what is important in felting, not
apparently the heat, but much more the agitation? Minimal felting in
the WM and then fine tuning in the dryer seems the way to go for me.
I have posted [hopefully] some photos of my work. AS you will see I am
more a practical felter than decorative. Nancy
Hi Ardione, I haven't sent my bag and unfortunately won't be able to in a reasonable time for everyone else. Many apologies to everyone for holding things up. Life has gotten in the way of the things I really want to do.

Hi, I have just seen your note as I have been away up north for a
month. I have made lots of fulled/felted knitted hats. I felt in a
top loading machine but my daughter in law Lydia has a front loader so
she hand felts in the bath! With her in it! It's just a matter of
providing the water and agitation needed for the process. We have
considered using one of the camping washing "machines" that are
actually a tumbler but I am not sure if Lydia has tried hers yet. I
have also tried working my hats by starting the process in the washing
machine, then continuing to shrink them by rolling and rubbing in the
usual felting method. I have decided that whatever works for me is
the way to go as it's the end result that matters. I block mine on
the Hatshapers blocks, so I can rub them on the block to keep the
shrinking going. Hope this helps.
Sorry, I meant to email and say that bags had arrived from Meg and Pat. Thanks guys and I can't wait to see the rest.
I have been working on vessels the last few weeks Finished one which I beaded around the rim and am very pleased with it. I am not sure what I am going to do with this collection but I am hoping an opportunity presents itself.
Hi Nancy Welcome to Aussie felters. I am more a crocheterer than a knitter. Fulling actually is the correct term but the wool is being felted so it's potatoes/potartoes really. I have crocheted and the fulled/felted in the washing machine twice. I have a top loader and both times it took ages probably a good half an hour. I also tried doing a small sample piece by rolling it in a sushi mat and dunking between hot and cold water and that only took about ten minutes but it was a small piece and I don't know how a bag or something like that would go with hand felting. I went to an Alice Gove workshop and she had put an old wool jumper through her needle felter and it had felted beautifully. with the crocheted pieces they shrank 30 % in width but only 10% in length so the first piece ended up really
long I take a photo some time. This hasn't been a problem as it is a really useful bag instead of a small handbag which was the intention. I allowed for this in the second piece and it is how I wanted. Which was a big bag for library books or lots of stuff with long handles I can put around my neck for carrying. I am going to tart it up a bit and then I'll show it on here. Hope this helps you.

I have her Eco Colour book Pat. It's wonderful, but as it's a recent purchase, I haven't had a lot of time to read it in detail. Your proposed scarf sounds wonderul! I love India's work and the colours she creates.
Did anyone see the segment on India Flint on Sunday Arts on the ABC yesterday. It showed her dying with leaves and rusty metal on to cotton cloth. I'm thinking I would like to make a white scarf using fine merino then dye it using her method. Haven't ventured into natural dying yet. Have a yard full of different gums, might be a good time to start. Has anyone tried natural dying felt items?
Very cold here this morning just 2 Celsius and I have to go out to the shed to make batts. Won't warm up much today so I'd better get at it.
