So far we've had 4 positive responses to the swap.

One person wants Option 1 (make a medium item for one person)
One person wants Options 2 (make ornaments for several people)
Two people are happy to go with the majority decision.

Is anyone else interested in taking part, and if so what option would you prefer?

Or should we not do the swap at all, given the low level of interest?

Please let me know asap -  time is ticking away and we will need several weeks of crafting time, plus time for each package to arrive before Christmas.

Just a not to say a big thanks for all the yummy fibre that cam my way!
Loved all fibres but the silks are just delightful.

Oh, and I think I could have a go at needle felting some ornaments .
Hugs to all

Hi Wendy,

I just opened my fibre swap parcel today and want to say a huge thanks to the ladies that sent me fibres, including you.  It is great to get some fibres never used before and chosen by others.  I love it all!!

You are fabulous to take on organising another swap.  I am keen on option 2 as I don't have much time on my hands, but will go with the majority - so count me in whatever it is.  I am a sucker for anything Xmas.

Hello,
The last swap must have been a success if you're wanting to try another!
I am up to my eyeballs with "other life stuff" at present and can't be involved again, but good luck with this one if it gets going.

Now that the Fibre Exchange is over I though it might be nice to do a Christmas swap. All members of this group are welcome to take part.

Here are a few options:

OPTION 1
Send a medium sized felted item (such as a scarf, bag, hat etc) plus a handmade card to one person in the swap

OPTION 2
Send a felted Christmas decoration and a handmade card to 4 other people in the swap.

OPTION 3
Any other ideas you might have on how to organise it

Please let me know what you think asap. If this is going to happen we need to get it underway pretty soon.

thanks
Wendy

Hi all

Hope the quiet list is because you are all busy felting up a storm!!

I have been spending some time being creative, but alas not with felting!

I am working on some 3 dimensional weaving, though hoping to incorporate some felting in my work.

Have found my desk (and keyboard!) so it’s time for some inspiration:

www.eya-kokareva.ru

Eya Kokareva from Moscow – some amazing pieces, unfortunately can’t read the text!

www.fiberella.com

Website of Paula Scaffidi (Eya was a featured artist on this site)

http://willekeklaassen.co.uk/index.php?loc=au002

Willeke Klaassen from the Netherlands

And lastly this one is a blog, nothing related to felt but if you scroll down the page there is a felt wall that has been created.

The wall was needle felted around a foam block. Everyone who made a brick was allowed to insert a piece of paper into the foam with a message on it. These messages are now at the heart of things.”

Hello,
I am into making felted fabric, so I think the wool will end up combined with some pretty silk that I have stashed away....I'm a "brights" person, so it is unlikely to be subdued when I get it organised.
I haven't ever used Polwarth so that will be an adventure.
Haven't been doing any felting this year at all, and am very ready to get into it...but I feel that I need to hasten slowly to remind myself what I'm doing, so I don't waste my wool and fabric.

Hello,
Just now stuck my head out of the sewing room - am fashioning a computer protector for uni student daughter, from a piece of felt I made in a workshop with Raewyn Penrose in Wellington, last year - to discover on the doorstep the package from Sandy which contained my "lucky draw prize" from last month.
There's nothing quite like the acquisition of some new wool to send a shiver of anticipation up the spine!! What a pleasure to only have to decide whether to dye it first - or after I've turned it into something else !!
At the moment I am full to the brim with ideas from Convergence...just need to clear the decks of other jobs which piled up in my 3 week absence, so I can get on with some of them.
Thanks very much Sandy!

Hello,
Home now, and not even unpacked, from an extended holiday in NZ after Convergence.
I don't know where to start really....except to endorse Stacey's glowing comments about how good it was.
I had a wonderful inspirational time in Masterton, and have come home determined to now do lots of felting to catch up on this "wasted year" which has been so confused with other life aspects.
As a relatively inexperienced feltmaker, I learned so much from people who were generous with their knowledge and skill, soaking up an atmosphere of amazing creativity being around 186 + women who share my enthusiasm for this and other craft-arts which often seem to blend in one's life. I spin and weave and knit and crotchet and sew...as well as make felt...and there were heaps of others there just like me..Some were amazingly competent and awesomely creative, and other were just getting started. The walls of public rooms and hotel corridors were festooned with wonderfully colourful felted banners and samples of registrants work - some for sale....and some marvellous sales were made - not just in the traders room and at the Bazaar.
Other hotel guests were clearly astonished by what they found themselves surrounded; not to mention the wonderful creations worn on heads, around necks hips shoulders etc as the various theme days went by. Eating breakfast was secondary as everone stretched to see what fantastic things everyone had on each day. One NZ feltmaker had a fabulous sale experience with a member of the public who just couldn't go home without the garment she saw. And it proved that we all have a price....although Karen started off determined not to sell!!
We all had a ball as far as I could tell.
We ate too much - the food at the resort was delicious, terrifying frequent and plentiful, and all loved the fact that someone else made the bed and cleaned the toilet for a week!
As well as serious concentrating on demonstrations and workshops there were many opportunities to discuss things we were experiencing and seeing...
Lesley Hansards 3-D work is fascinating - It's all about the "connections' - although I am so far relatively unsuccessful at making a volcano!
It was wonderful to hear Anita Larkin talk about her work.
I saw so many things I want to try....I am going to make a T shirt if it's the last thing I do...although I doubt that it will look good on my shape. Fortunately I have a gorgeous daughter.
The fashion parade - starring Stacey among other models - highlighted some worldclass garments and were a tribute to skill and experience, but also the wonderful wool we can work with in Australia and NZ.
Since NZ was where I started felt making when I lived in Wellington, I enjoyed catching up with lots of old friends...but it was also a pleasure meeting
Australians who share my interest....Hopefully I will see some of them again soon.
And I can't wait for Bunbury in 2011...Having met the Bunbury crowd, I have no doubt that Convergence will be there!
Best wishes.

Subject: [AussieFeltmakers] Report on the Felt Convergence in NZ

Hi Feltettes

My golly gosh, the 10th Southern Hemisphere Felters Convergence in Masterton last week was AMAZING.

Masterton is about a two-hour drive from Wellington, so the organizers offered an optional trip to the Wearable Art Awards (the WOW awards) one evening and it was like Cirque du Soleil with an emphasis on wearable art instead of acrobatics. What a spectacle! They had live musicians, dancers, comedians, even body-builders! And talented models showing off amazing wearables. If you ever plan a trip to New Zealand, time it so you can attend WOW in Wellington and book your tickets well in advance. You won’t regret it.

Back to the Convergence – the New Zealand gals did a fantastic job organizing it. There were so many classes and forums on offer and I learned a great deal. The fashion parade Tuesday night had over 50 entries! There was a felting lodge, a needlefelting post, a traders room where we could purchase wool and supplies, a mini-market at the open day … wonderful displays and evening entertainment.

I heard that 68 of the delegates were from Australia. They had about 170 registered, plus some one-day delegates.

I met Glynnis Hollindale briefly, who is also on this list! I met so many people really and the exchange of information was invaluable.

The venue was near-perfect. Food and staff there at the Copthorne Solway – fantastic.

The next Convergence will be in Bunbury WA in October 2010. This is the permanent web address for the Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence: www.feltconvergence.com . It is currently a blog maintained by the NZ organizers and shows a few photos from last week. Eventually it will be managed by the Western Australian organizers.

Cheers

thanks Sandie,
they were only home for the week as they headed to Canberra last night for the weekend to work then on Tue they head down to Melb for a week, Tim just rang in and said he coped OK with the shows they did today, so that good news.
Hi Janine
Good to hear from you. I think after what happened to your family you are very forgiven for not posting.
So pleased to hear they are home and well.
The Memory Tree was commissioned by someone who had come into see our exhibition we had recently and she didn't even make it out past the car park before she came back in to run the idea past us, so it was a direct result of my felted tree, how good was that.

Your memory tree was beautiful and what a wonderful idea!! Also pleased that you had a great time in Anita's workshop, thought I might try and get to one of the feltmakers meetings before the end of the year!
Take care and keep up the fantastic work!

If you head down for a meeting, let me know and I'll see if I can also come along.

I head up to Brisbane on Sun the 18th to spend a couple of days at Caloundra before heading back down to Brissy to work at the quilt show, so if anyone is going to the show I'll be on the Unique Stitching stand, so stop by and say hello - I'll be the short wide one in bright colours with bright red hair - I don't like to stand out................

cheers

Dear Sandie,
I didn't check the date 2011. I should have known. Put it down to the
"fall":). I'm off to the pysio this morning, feeling better already! Hope you
get to a bit of felting soon. If only we did not have to sleep, but I do like to
sleep. At present I am looking after two little dogs whose family have had a

they are good company.
I look forward to meeting up with Stacey at the convergence in 2011. I used to

Hey Julie

Great to hear from you!! Sorry to hear all the stuff that has been happening,
life just seems to get in the way sometimes doesnt it!LOL!

As for my girls, I am a cruel mother, our girls have been making their own
lunches since they were in about 4th class and some night I go on strike and
it's either fend for yourself or they have to make dinner. Alas the problem is
the quantity they eat!! Everybody keeps telling me that boys are worse but I
have seen the girls up against friends boys and believe me they eat just as
much, wish I knew where they put it though then my problems might be solved!!

Realised today, that you and I have been chatting for quite a few years now,
they were only quite small when I first joined up with NAFN.

Take care and look after yourself

Sandie

I knew that Stacey, only it did not register on my tiny stressed out mind that the year date was wrong.  I doubt if it will be in Bunbury though, as the FeltWEST inc will be fighting to have it somewhere in Perth, most likely.  So we down here in the south west have a little more time to plan for it as with all the rest of you around Australia.

I posted away the package of stuff to you this morning.....I am ever so sorry it is late, but please forgive the hasty way in which it was all thrown together too.....I just have so many demands on my time at present, that I did not seem to have when I agreed to go in the exchange.  Never a dull moment in this household, I can tell you.  Have just packed the loved one off to work for another 5-6 weeks and helped my aged parents move into a retirement village.  Financial contstraints demand that I have to be out looking for work every day, as well as a few classes to go to - not felting ones either, more's the pity.
Welcome to any new members........Meg.....sorry about your accident, get better soon,.......Sandie....its time the kids learned to get their own food, or is it that they just eat you out of house and home?.......Stacey.........glad you enjoyed your time at the Convergence.  I really wished I could have gone, but them's the brakes.

Cheers to all

Hi Feltettes

I must have said the Bunbury Felt Convergence will be in 2010. Actually, convergence is every second year, so we are looking at October 2011.

Cheers

Stacey

Hi Meg

Good to hear from you, though sounds like you have been having a challenging time! Hope you are on the mend soon!

Definitely book, Meg!! 2010 seems so far away and yet it’s not!! Scary stuff, keep seeing these signs that tell me how many days until Christmas, I don’t want to know! Would love to go to convergence, we’ll just have to wait and see!

I have declared this the year of the unfelt, some members have been felting up a storm (Wendy & Pat in particular) but as for me it has been delegated to the bottom of the list – thinking of asking my family for Christmas to give me the space (no interruptions!) for two days, just so I can do some felting! LOL!! Not as silly as it sounds!

Better go, hi ho hi ho it’s off to the salt mines I go – can anybody explain why children have to eat so much as they get older, if it were’nt for that, I could felt all day to my hearts content!

Take care Meg

Dear Feltettes,

Welcome to the new felters to the group.
Have been limping along for quite some time. Having caught my foot in the Doona
cover & down I went. Diagnosed with a Baker's Cyst and a torn Miniscus
(spelling ?). Having bought a stair lift in July, it was only put in today!!
Handy men are hard to find in this neck of the woods. I'm getting better and
must do some felting for the Margaret River Agricultural Show and our own Garden
show.

Am thinking I should book accomodation for 2010 Convergence. I am only 2 hours
drive from Bunbury, & a member of the group. Well get in early!!:)) what do
think Sandie? I daresay the Bunbury ladies who went are full of ideas. The sun
is shining today but more rain is forecast. Meg
