Hi everyone
Yes, I would be interested in both fibre exchange and ATC exchange.
I have been busy working with my embellisher recently and have found the
only down side to it is the cost of the needles. My latest piece is a large
artwork (approx. 1.45M long) and is very thick - have broken enormous
amounts of needles ($55 per pack of 10) but it has been a lesson learnt.
Good to hear from you Julie - will answer your email very soon. Take care.
Best wishes to you all

Hate driving in Sydney but when I have a firm date maybe we can meet up for lunch or something in Dee Why. Lots of nice cafes on the beach there.
Please post lots and lots of photos so we can percariously live your felting adventure with you!

Hello all you Feltmakers there in Oz. I have been to Los Angeles for a week, and now I am down in a little place called Encinitas, just a two hour train ride south of LA, just north of San Diego. I am staying with a couple that I met through the North American Feltmakers List run by Pat Spark. They are lovely people, with a young son, and we are very keen to do some feltmaking together today, as we have both been starved of this for a while now.
Will keep you posted about where I am each time I move on. Will be going to Portland next, and am conducting a workshop there on 16th April.
Keep well all of you. Wish I could join in with your next exchange, but as I really do not have a forwarding address at present, it could prove to be a little difficult.
Best wishes, and happy feltmaking Julie Williams, as I felt my way around the world. Jaruleeli FeltART

Hi All
Just finished my 2 one hour classes at Hampton School. Its is a small country school with 17 pupils in total. What a surprise when I arrived and found that there were 13 boys and only 4 girls. We were making felt necklaces. Think the choice would have been different if I knew that there were so many boys.
What a good bunch of kids. Polite , enthusiastic a real pleasure to teach. Boys had trouble treading needles, that was a surprise. But it went really will and we ended up with some great medallions.
Don't know if I will have time for a swap, but what do you think of the felted and beaded necklace. Made by making a felted sausage shape with multi colours , cutting into disks before felted really hard, then flattening disk into a medallion shape, felting disks until hard and decorating with with small beads. Very quick and easy but looks great.
Julie, green with envoy, grew up In North Vancouver, have relatives in Portland and L.A. Area, have very happy memories of both places.
Hi Wendy, will be in Sydney for a week when new granddaughter if born, around the first week in May. Maybe we could met up. Daughter lives at Dee Why.
Hello Sandie,
I would be interested in the exchange. Never been part of one,but willing to
try. Nice to
hear from Julie.Best wishes for all your travels Julie.
Look forward to hearing from you Sandie. Meg in sunny Augusta W.A.

Hi Stacey
Thanks for the reply, I never say no to someone hosting an exchange for
me!!!! I think ATC's are great and with all the interest in them at the
moment really appropriate. Thanks also for the explanation for those who
don't know what they are.
As I said in my email to Wendy, will give everyone until Monday to respond
and if we all agree maybe we can run the fibre one and the ATC's at the
same time. We can work out the finer details next week.
Thanks for the input Stacey, talk to you soon!
Enjoy your week!
Sandie :-)
Hi Wendy
Great to hear from you, hope life is treating you kindly!!!
A fibre exchange is always a great one, easy for those of us who dont have
a lot of time to make things!!!! Certainly would say yes please to you
organising it!!! Thought we might wait until we work out what every one
wants, maybe a couple of exchanges at once!!
I will give everyone until next Monday to give me some feedback!
Hope we can get a few more interested in a get together, maybe those in
other states might want to do the same! Will keep you posted on this one too!
Thanks once again Wendy!!!
Take care,
Sandie :-)

Please welcome Hannah from Melbourne!!!
Hannah has bought a needle felting kit for her Bernina machine!!!!
1) I would be happy to have another exchange - another fibre exchange would be fun and not as much work as making something. I can organise it if you like.
2) I would love a Sydney get-together.

Hi all
Hoping you are all well and madly felting, it is getting to that great time of year when it is cool enough to wear the pieces that we make and I love it!!!
Got a couple of questions for you all!!!
1) Do we want an another exchange? For those who are new we had three exchanges last year, an easter egg exchange (felted eggs of course!), a fibre exchange, and a Christmas decoration exchange!!! For those who took part it was great fun!!! Please let me know your thoughts, and some ideas on what sort of an exchange you would like!

Hi Sandie
Exchanges are fun. Never done any felting ones before! I'd been thinking
of making felted artist trading cards if anyone is interested in
swapping either one for one or I could host an exchange if there is a
group interested. Maybe do ATC's instead of Easter Eggs this year?
What are Artist Trading Cards? They are usually cards, but they can be
made of anything really. I've seen fabric and polymer clay, for
instance. The only rule is that they have to measure two and a half by
three and a half inches exactly, so I thought I would felt up a big
piece and chop it into lots of ATC's. Then you add a label to the back
of each one that states it is an Artist Trading Card and include details
like your name, address and email address and the date the card was
made. You can put other info too, if you like.
If you are totally new to the concept of ATC's there is more info on my
website, though all examples are papercraft:
http://www.studioastarte.com.au/gallery/ATCs/index.htm Be sure to read
the box of info in the last box in the far left column.

"Calling all Scarf Makers
Register for The 2006 Melbourne Scarf Festival by Friday 31 March
Pod: The 2006 Melbourne Scarf Festival
Thursday 15 - Saturday 17 June
Craft Victoria's annual Melbourne Scarf Festival is just around the
corner, and it's time to start preparing your entries for the Scarf
Lane Market. The Market is a forest-like display of hand-crafted
scarves submitted by professional and amateur makers that fills
Craft Victoria's Flinders Lane gallery for three days.
After exploring the religious, cultural and tribal meaning of
scarves, the fourth annual festival moves to technology: Pod. Pod
focuses on ways that scarves can house accessories such as iPods,
mobile phones or precious objects. Pod is also a group or a
collective and scarves that can be worn by more than one person, or
that are made by more than one person are encouraged. The opening
night launch will be a major event at the BMW Edge, Federation
Square with fashion parade and awards ceremony. Due to popular
demand the Scarf Festival will continue to feature events, workshops
and forums.
PARTICIPATION
To keep up with the high demand for participation and increased
interest in The 2006 Melbourne Scarf Festival we have introduced a
small fee for scarf entries. Once again there will be a limit of 3
entries per person and the following fee
structure will apply:
Craft victoria members and children under 16 - free
Non-Members - $15 per entry
Group entries - $15 per entry (NB: if a Craft Victoria Member is
participating in a group the entry fee is waived)
RETAIL KITS
Details about the submission of scarves, scarf awards and
guidelines, consignment information and further updates will be
provided in The 2006 Melbourne Scarf Festival Retail Kit. To receive
a Retail Kit, please register your interest by filling in your
details below and returning the information to Craft Victoria or by
emailing your complete contact details to scarf2006@...
no later than 31 March. Retail Kits will be sent out from Friday 7
April.
MORE INFORMATION
Regular information updates will be posted to The 2006 Melbourne
Scarf Festival website www.craftvic.asn.au/scarf2006 so keep an eye
out for more news and information about this year's theme. Send

Hi all
Great work Stacey, your website is wonderful and you have created some
fabulous pieces. Well done!
Pat, thanks for those silver grey batts - they are just the colour we
needed.
Hi Meg, You have been busy, like to see what you are doing with poly clay,
it is quite different to 'real' clay. Catch you soon.
I have been busily working on a collaborative felt artwork with my friend
and we hope to complete it by the end of this week as the exhibition is next
week! Over the last few weeks I have also been using my embellisher to felt
silk crepe fabric (or something like that!) onto wool tops, silk tops and
silk waste which was then very quickly felted in hot water. The silk kept
its sheen (which I usually lose when felting silk in the traditional way)
and this technique hurries the felting process along.
Best wishes to you all
xxxRae
Hi Pat
Great to hear from you! I was very disappointed we couldn't go to
Crookwell, dont know if Megan mentioned to you or not but my close friend
Elizabeth now has to have intensive radiotherapy, she was hospitalised the
weekend before Crookwell. Wendy had been minding her children and it just
threw all our plans into chaos. I was so disappointed as I love Crookwell
and wanted to choose some of your batts. I am one of those strange people
who buys fibre by seeing it, rarely do I mail order buy.
Would have loved to do a hat for the Blue Hat Project especially as it is
near to my heart as we have depression in our family. Dont think I can
though too ambitious with all the other stuff I am doing.
Have started my study again for my Tapestry weaving course so assignments
are due soon!
I am working on a vessel piece at the moment exploring a few different
ideas I have for needle felting techniques and using fine merino batts.
Also trying to get another piece finished for our local show but this time
I think I have bitten off more than I can chew (thats why I have been quiet
lately!!)
On the drawing board are some ideas for a piece I have to do for my textile
groups exhibition in late August September. Our theme is Whispers from the
Rainforest and as a group piece those who were interested were given a
small wooden shadow box. We can put whatever we want in the box, we are not
allowed to paint the outside and then they will be assembled to hang as a
corporate piece. I have the idea just cant get my head around the mechanics
of getting the pieces to stay in place but it will happen! :-)
Also we are starting up a new fibre group for our Black and Coloured sheep
breeders region and we have our first meeting tomorrow!!!
Told you busy, busy busy!
Sorry I wont be at Orange Pat, might just have to schedule a visit to come
up your way!
Take care
Sandie :-)
Hi Stacey
YOu are not the only one needing to fess up!!!! :-)
I too get very "grumbly" about the rolling, guess that was why the
needlefelting attracted me more!!!
I too meditate but just cant seem to get in the right place when it comes
to rolling felt!!!!!
Sandie :-)
Stacey, love your work and blog so good of you to share.
I am doing a lot of batt making. Today I am prepare some natural grey gotland to card side by side with multi-coloured fine merino. The gotland is a strong fiber but felts very quickly and easily so is ideal to combine with the merino. Makes nice bags boots etc. With stronger fiber on the base where it takes the ware. Also ideas rolling around in my head for laying black, white and grey natural alpaca side by side to make batts or/and black ,brown and red brown. Trying to get a stock of batts in different fibres and colour blends for the fibre forum at Orange. Well have a trading table there. Hope to have a lot of one of batts for those who would like to try something different.
Want to re-vamp a blue & yellow hat to summit to The Blue Hat Project. Its in aid of depression awareness. Details from www.hatweek.com.au/you
Hi Meg
Yes, it was an exciting four days and I got heaps more end results than
just the finished work - I also did some planning around where I wanted
to invest time as an artist and how I might make my dreams more of a
concrete reality.
Confession: I get very grumbly about the rolling process of felt making
- it often feels sort of like wasting time to me - strange, since as a
person who meditates, I know there is value in zoning out. Certainly I
discovered this weekend that you can do a lot of thinking - evaluation
and generating plans of action - while you are rolling felt! I don't
tend to do that when I am pursuing other crafts.
I do a lot of polymer clay and the pieces that feature in the sea
goddess gown in my 'blogumentary' are white clay that's been antiqued
with blue-grey acrylic paint, then hints of coral-pink.

Hello Tracey,
What a time you have had. I could feel the excitement! Loved looking at
your blog page.
Perhaps because I have an Apple Mac some of the pictures would not come

still enjoyed them all. I have just bought polymer clay can you
recommend a beginners
book or should I just jump in? I believe you can paint on the clay too.
I was a potter for 30
years but polymer is new to me. Congrats to you for all the great
felting. Hoping to felt
this weekend. Meg
