THE WOODENELVES SIGN U.S. LICENSING DEAL
Fresh from the recent launch of their debut album, Trips Between Worlds, Perth
band The Woodenelves have signed a US licensing agreement.
The deal, with Undercover Tracks based in Los Angeles, paves the way for The
Woodenelves' tracks to be pitched to TV and film in the US.
Undercover Tracks' Isabel Pappani said she was thrilled to have added the band
to her catalogue.
"The songs that The Woodenelves have written really lend themselves to film and
TV placements and I expect them to be well-received by music supervisors and
studios alike," she said.
"The US licensing market has been very receptive to using Australian music in
productions. It can be a good revenue stream as well as a door-opener for
international artists who wish to gain some momentum in the States."
The opportunity for The Woodenelves to sign to Undercover Tracks was sparked by
the WA Music Industry Association's '2007 Australia Post WAMi Music Business
Conference'.
"We applied to be part of the Conference's Live Pitch session and were lucky
enough to be chosen to showcase one of our tracks to film and TV music
supervisors," said The Woodenelves' frontman Travis Caudle.
"Isabel was one of the Live Pitch panel members. She contacted us after hearing
the music and we took it from there. We're really pleased to be working with her
and are grateful to WAM for opening this door for us through their Conference."
WA Music Industry Industry Association (WAM) Executive Director Paul Bodlovich
said, "This is exactly the kind of outcome that the Live Music Pitch Session was
intended to produce, and gives us the impetus to include it as a regular feature
of the annual WAMi Conference.
"It's so exciting to present a session like the Live Music Pitch, which not only
gives artists feedback on their music but has the opportunity to present real
commercial opportunities. Having quality panelists like Isabel involved
guarantees value for all the participants."
Undercover Tracks was founded in 2005. Isabel Pappani is a former VP of Creative
for Festival Mushroom Records based in Los Angeles, and has worked with and
continues to work with Australian artists such as Eskimo Joe, Motor Ace,
Gyroscope, Gerling, Sonicanimation, Amiel, Youth Group, Machine Gun Fellatio and
28 Days.
Earlier this year, The Woodenelves' signed a publishing agreement with Sydney's
Fogsongs. Last year they took out two national songwriting awards for two tracks
off Trips Between Worlds and have also featured as the house band on Rove Live.
