GROW YOUR OWN PRESENTS: UPLOAD TWO SHOWCASE
HAILER
http://www.myspace.com/hailermusic
Based in Sydney, Hailer play vibe-packed rock'n'roll that makes everyone in the
room turn their head and stomp there feet. Hailer formed after a chance meeting
in late 2004, and within a few months set about playing as many shows as
possible, from dingy pubs to flashy clubs, in Sydney and up and down the East
Coast of Australia. Now, having established the reputation of being one of the
best live bands in Sydney, Hailer regularly headline major venues across town.
They have also supported bands such as the Mess Hall, Peabody, Bertie Blackman,
Hitmen and the Lost Valentinos... to name a few.
Their debut EP "Like a Uniform" (2008) has just been independently released, and
follows in the footsteps of their highly successful and acclaimed single "All I
Wanted" in 2007. Hailer will tour nationally throughout 2008.
Hailer's appeal is universal - their music transcends fads and focuses on the
undeniable - writing and performing great songs. This is a band who play with
every fibre of there being, who write with honesty.
THE GRONKS

http://www.myspace.com/thegronks
The Gronks are based around two singer songwriter pals that decided to write an
album with no pre-determined style agenda and a heady disregard to conventional
pop formats. For months they conducted spontaneous writing sessions in darkened
studios letting the music take them where it dared. The result is a pastiche of
glam rock, alt country, lounge and indie rock, brimming with melodies and stream
of consciousness lyrics.
The Gronks are no strangers when it comes to recording so they set about it with
vigour over several rocket-fuelled sessions, with legendary knob twiddler
Russell Pilling, at the cosy Damien Gerards in Balmain. A few guests popped in
to help, like Marty Wilson Piper who tears it up on the overtly rock track Touch
the Sun. Whilst recording to 2" tape with a live band (including APRA stalwart
Tim Denny on drums) plenty of digital trickery and analogue tom-foolery was
employed to ease the songs into their natural state of being. In between
sessions the live Gronks ensemble managed gigs at the Peats Ridge Festival and
the delightful Lilypad stage at the Surry Hills Festival.
The irascible Jorden Bach mixed with his highly evolved German ears in his
Orange Room and finally King Willy 'Spock' Bowden put the project to bed at his
plush Stanmore mastering studio. Resplendant with fine wood panelling and an
uber luxurious couch inherited from Festival Records. Arty types Flying Sausage
put their hands up to make the clip for 1st single Dirt, a Napolean
Dynamite-esque homage to unpleasant bosses and we know a few. Some musical
reference points might help at this stage and surely REM, Wilco and Crowded
House would be useful places to start. Meaningful pop music with manners and a
hint of the Good Weekend.
THE HONEY PALACE - Mark Wolfe
http://www.myspace.com/thehoneypalace
Mark Wolfe is the original founding band member, starting from art college 2000,
with the line up morphing from five piece, four piece or three piece, the
current form. Drummer, Murray Steward works in a music store and has played as
the main drummer since 2003. Bass player Mathew Hall, has been with the band
since the start of 2006.
Wolfe has written and produced all of the current released Ep/CD roms songs and
lyrics and has a publishing deal with Fogsongs, Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia.
He currently has new demo material that he has played live and he is ready to
record. There is new material for solo-unplugged band and full band.
Working as an independent artist, and being self sufficient on a cottage
industry scale (managing, booking local and interstate shows/tours, doing
artwork, making video-clips/short films) enables Wolfe to organise, record and
release a range of CDs.
He recently toured WA and played to a sell out crowd at the Annandale only last
week.
Promises to be a great night!!
