One country's cargo is now a world-wide treasure...
Relaunching Golden Ages -
Born in London, Luke's first introduction to the explicit world of music came
backstage at a Genesis concert held at Knebworth House Estate, England as a
cradle-rocking six month old.
As part of a musical dynasty, Luke's father toured throughout Europe as a bass
player during the 1960's. Luke's musical lineage provided him with the
opportunity to see every major act in England and the USA, which led to Luke's
own musical evolution, adopting the guitar at the tender age of seven.
Moving to Australia as a university graduate to escape England's notoriously
cold weather, Luke amassed himself a cult following as one of Sydney's most
original and innovative young songwriters and performers.
Sydney Morning Herald's Brett Winterford described Luke's unique voice as
"worthy of a love-song-dedication hour. He's also got wit in spades and knows
how to spin a good story. The true mark of his talent is the smile you'll wear
for one or two lines amidst his most melancholic tune". Music journalist Craig
New put it more succintly when he described him as "a white fella who sings like
black folks".
Last year "Byron Time", a track from "Golden Ages" was immediately included on
the "Home Grown Roots vol.3" compilation alongside Australian music royalty such
as John Butler and Paul Kelly.
Also a published social commentator and satirist, Luke has sold out shows around
the world including The Basement, Sydney's most prestigious venue. With a
cultivated musical aptitude, Luke chose to nestle in the hills of Byron Bay to
record his first solo album "Golden Ages" which is re-launching
this month to coincide with the release of Home Grown Roots volume 4, out this
week, which includes the track "Too old to take new drugs", a typically
swinging, tongue-in-cheek Luke Escombe creation.
Golden Ages Launch Shows include;
Thursday 19th November - Oxford Art Factory, Darlinghurst (supporting Extended
Family)
Friday 4th December - Raval, Surry Hills (ALBUM RELAUNCH, with support act Lanie
Lane)
Golden Ages is out now on Itunes and via Chaos in stores and mail order.
