The most popular classical music artist you've never heard.

Hailing from Russia and now Melbourne based, composer and guitarist Alex
Chudnovsky could very well be the most popular classical artist you've never
heard of before.

When you think of classical guitar, the internet is probably not the first thing
that springs to mind. And yet, over the past 5 years, Alex Chudnovsky has
utilised the internet, in particular You Tube, to spread the word about his
playing and to promote his music in a way that no other Australian classical
musician has ever done.

Since starting his own You Tube channel, Alex has attracted over 6000
subscribers to watch videos that he has uploaded of himself playing tracks from
his debut album, The Journey. In total, Alex has had over 2.1 million video
views. A staggering amount for any musical act, let alone a classical guitarist
playing original, contemporary compositions. In overall subscriptions Alex is
currently the number 12 ranked music act on You Tube Australia.

In true interactive style, Alex's fans often upload videos of themselves playing
their own version of his compositions, a practice that he actively encourages by
making the music notation available to them. And now that his album The Journey
is available physically as well as digitally, the phenomenon can continue
spreading.

Alex will be performing live to air this Sunday August 2nd on 3PBS Melbournes
Global Village show at 530pm.

Following this Alex will undertake a range of small festivals/venues and other
appearances leading to his official launch in summer.

For interview requests please contact Marshall Cullen at Foghorn Media.

soundslikecafe - Volume 26 out now! and calling for placements for Volume 27

The latest edition from Australia's only music café network, soundslikecafe
volume 26 is playing in cafes right now. Featuring some of the hottest new
releases from Australia and around the world, this long running and much loved
CD series just keeps on growing.

Volume 26 kicks off with the latest single from Sarah Blasko, "All I Want".
Taken from her third album "As Day Follows Night" (Dew Process/UMA), this is a
fantastic track from one of our favourite local artists and marks her third
appearance on soundslikecafe!

Another repeat performer is newcomer Shelley Harland with her latest radio
favourite "Friday" (Alberts/SME) who just recently appeared on Volume 24. This
time around Shelley appears courtesy of our recent competition to guess how many
café customers soundslikecafe reaches on an average day. The winner was
Shelley's manager Troy Barrot from Hub Artist Services who came closest to
guessing 267,000 customers. That's a staggering 1.3 million per week! Troy went
on to say;

"For the right artist and song, Sounds Like Cafe has become an integral part of
the marketing mix. Great natural exposure within a targeted and focussed market
and helpful reporting. Sure beats knocking on 1200 cafe doors myself."

Also appearing for the third time are Aria Award winners, Sneaky Sound System
with their latest single "It's Not My Problem" (MGM). They're joined by
Melbourne's Special Patrol and their new track "Right On" (MGM) as well as
another one of our favourite local artists, Karl Broadie. "Once in Your Life" is
taken from Karl's latest album "Branches" (ABC/UMA) and has been on high
rotation in the office here.

Josh Owen from Melbourne pops up on Volume 26 with his latest single "Nasty
Weather" (MGM) as does country music favourite Felicity Urquhart with her new
single "Two Wheels" (RUM). US-based Perth musician Natalie D-Napoleon chips in
with her acoustic version of the Paul Kelly classic "To Her Door" (MGM), and
speaking of the USA, hailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida are newcomers Sosos
with their Australian debut "Should've Wandered"

One of our favourite new acts is the lovely Georgia Potter who delivers a solo
track, "More For Yourself" (IND) as well as a performance from her other band,
The Cool Calm Collective with "Kings and Queens" (IND). She is definitely
someone to keep an eye on.

Other acts included on Volume 26 include a nationwide mix of Simon Kelly (WA),
Sarah Collyer (QLD), Zahlu (Byron Bay), Travis Caudle (WA), Daxton (NSW), Rosie
Burgess (VIC) and Alex Chudnovsky (VIC via Russia).

Bonus albums this month include the latest stunning release from Sarah Blasko
"As Day Follows Night" (Dew Process/UMA), Sunny Side Up from Paolo Nutini (WMA),
Red Leaf from Shelley Harland (Albert/SMA) and a special sampler from Vitamin
Records available only to soundslikecafe outlets across the country.

The Next SLC Volume 27 goes out in SEPTEMBER and is now open for placements.

Dear All,

Please take 2 minutes to sign this petition and forward to your friends and
family who are animal lovers. It is heart breaking that we as humans can be so
cruel to animals. Please make a difference and help stop this
brutality................
Please sign, don't watch video it’s just too painful but we have to try and
stop this brutality. It's about animal rights. But if you must watch there is a
link below.

I explain the process below:-
With a hidden camera, animals were filmed being
SKINNED ALIVE!!! They say it's done to get a more
perfect ''cut''.afterwards the carcasses
are tossed into a pile, still alive, and
for up to 10 minutes you can see their hearts still
beating, in agony, their eyes still blinking, and the puppies little
paws still shaking.
There was one pup, that still lifted his head and
gazed at the camera with bloodied eyes . If
you don't care to see the video, please sign and
forward to your friends:
this monstrosity has to be stopped, we have to act!!
Please scroll down and add your signature to the petition and send to
everyone in your address book. Do not click on the link, you have been warned
that it is too gruesome to watch and something needs to done to stop it....
Thanks for your support

There is no need to see the video, but if you must, be aware,
it's horrible. The following video is of excruciating violence. It's
painful silence affects us all deeply. If we don't protect animals from

For Immediate Release June 29th Another day in the life at the Hopetoun Thurs
July 16

Oscar - Another Life Another Day album launch at The Hopetoun.

It all starts with a melody.

When you listen to the debut album from Sydney band Oscar, the first thing you
notice, indeed the very thing that sets them apart from countless other local
three piece rock bands, is melody. Sometimes they are fast and jagged, other
times slow and gorgeous, but they are all so catchy they will stay with you long
after the music stops.

In these current trying times for the music industry, it's rare to find an act
capable of backing itself not just to make an EP or single release, but to
record a whole album of quality material that stands up to repeated listens. But
that's exactly what Oscar have done with their debut album Another Life Another
Day. Twelve standout tracks from a band determined to carve out their own path
in the local scene.

Current single and live favourite "Friday Night Venus" is starting to gain some
attention at radio where it is already receiving airplay in Melbourne on RRR and
PBS as well as regional airplay at 2UNE Armidale and 5YYY Whyalla. They were
also interviewed last week on ABC Darwin. Other tracks like the gorgeous "Summer
Days" and "This Revelation" show a depth and grandeur far beyond their inner
city Sydney contemporaries.

Fans on iTunes have already given Another Day Another Life the thumbs up. "Make
sure you check them out when they play near you, and buy this album. NOW!"

"Pure genius. As Molly would say, do yourself a favour!"

"Great tunes and even better lyrics"

Make sure you catch Oscar at their official album launch:

Thursday July 16

Hopetoun Hotel Surry Hills

From 9pm

Another Day Another Life is the sound of a band finding it's own sound and
setting out on a promising career. You really should get in early on this one.

GO ALL OUT FOR FBi IN JUNE!

FBi exploded onto the Sydney music scene in 2003 with a mandate to play 50%
Australian music, half of that from Sydney bands. In the six years that have
followed, the station has given a voice to the people of this city, and a
platform to the artists, actors, musicians, djs, designers, promoters,
producers, film makers, straights and eccentrics. All of us.

In 2009 the station finds itself facing significant financial challenges. The
Global Financial Crisis has hit the station hard and FBi needs to raise one
million dollars to stay on air and maintain the quality service that it has
provided since 2003.

In an unprecedented and massive demonstration of support, the music community is
pulling together to lend their support to the station via a series of
fundraising gigs throughout June. All proceeds raised will go towards saving the
station.

SAVE FBi - get out to some gigs in June and support your station.

START PLAYING BLUES HARP AT THE HARP SUN JUNE 14

Ever had the urge to put a harmonica to your lips and start playin' the blues?

'Mouth from the South' Tony Maguire is coming to the rescue with a special
beginners harmonica workshop 11:30am-3.30pm Sunday June 14 at the Harp Irish Pub
in Tempe, Sydney.

Maguire has got eight to 80-year-olds playing the 10-hole blues harp at his
workshops and says it's an easy instrument to learn, especially in a group
environment. "We always get some star performances from people who couldn't play
a note a few hours earlier," he said.

Called Introduction to the Harmonica, this unique session costs $125 including
lunch, practice CD and gleaming-new Hohner Silver Star harmonica. You'll get
instruction from nor just Maguire but singer-songwriter Dennis Aubrey, who is
providing guitar accompaniment throughout the session.

"That's another great thing about the workshop," says Maguire. "You get to jam
through a stage sound system with people like Dennis. If you're musically adept,
it might be all the harmonica tuition you'll ever need."

Here's what Michael had to say about the new single Shop Around

-Pitt Street Mall on a busy day inspired this concoction of lyrics. I never
meant for it to become a song, I was just letting off some steam when I wrote
the words. Then on my way across NSW I reached a place called Hay (about as far
away as you can get from Pitt Street Mall) and found myself putting the song
together.

The new album Something Along Those Lines

Michael wrote "something along those lines" while touring Australia

for most of last year, promoting his 2 EP's "The

25 paper planes EP" (2007) and "Patched Up Heart" (2008) both produced

by Michael Carpenter.

Something along those lines was Produced by Michael himself in

collaboration with ex Los Angeles producer/engineer Andrew Beck and

recorded and mixed at Damien Gerard Studios in Sydney .

The new album mixes Michael's usual heart felt vocals and unique and

thoughtful storytelling with influences from folk, roots, soul and

rock making for an album that is hard to pigeonhole and a pleasure to

listen to.

Paul Appelkamp
tour hits a resounding note of success.....

   www.myspace.com/paulappelkamp

Midway through his current national tour Paul finds himself firing on all
cylinders - from a sold out night at The Brass Monkey in Cronulla at the start
of the run to a full interview schedule following each tour destination. "I've
been touring for some time but on the current tour people's reactions to the
new EP and live shows have been better than ever. And interview requests are
now coming to me from press and radio without chasing them, which is good. I'm
loving the way these songs are developing live too - every show the energy is
just getting bigger".

This enthusiasm to play more and more comes through in a big way on the
stunning new self titled EP with Paul taking the term "solo artist" to heart.
Not only has he written all the songs, but he also plays every instrument, from
acoustic guitar and bass through to stomp-box and harmonica.

Beautifully produced by the multi-talented Genevieve Maynard (Stella One
Eleven, Bughouse) at Revolution Studios in Sydney, the Paul Appelkamp CD
combines a fresh take on the well established approach of acoustic guitar and
vocals. Sparse rhythms, gorgeous vocals and tasty guitar playing, this EP takes
modern roots music and captures something truly unique and special. This is a
true musical artist with a strong focused sound.

"This is definitely one EP worth hunting down. totally awesome. a musical
aphrodisiac. bring on the full length album! Five Stars! Release of the Month!"

A Very Unique Story

When Very Unique Existence's singer and song-writer Rich Latimer, posted a live
demo recording from a mobile phone of their concept album "Hear the Heart", to
Rolling Stone magazine, he wasn't sure if it was his Nimbin upbringing, 6 days
of no sleep during pre-production, or the trauma of nearly losing a 17yr old
brother in a car crash just before recording which inspired the random act. But
when he got a call from Dan Lander, Rolling Stone's editor, three weeks later he
knew the band were onto something truly special with their soon to be released
album.

After some early stops and starts, the band found success early last year with
the release of their second EP/DVD "Everyone". The tracks "Take it Easy", "Pop
Song" and "Looking Down" all secured regional, high rotation commercial airplay
plus spots on Nova, Triple J, Soundslikecafe, SMA and a Top 20 on Video Hits.
The band also earned the 2008 New Artist to retail position via Mood Media, and
had tracks placed in Bondi Rescue, City Homicide, and more recently The
Recruits. Touring wise they have supported Wolfmother, The Rouge Traders and
Kate Miller Heidke. Early inroads have been made into the USA as well via
Planetary Group and CMJ Magazine's tipsheet .

The buzz today is around the band's soon to be released album "Hear the Heart".
Likened by some to "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zeppelin, and being strong enough
even as a live demo to grab the interest of some major players including the
above mentioned Rolling Stone editor . Recently Pete Murray was on Sydney Radio
speaking about the band during Sound Relief. Two of the now famous "Mobile Phone
Demos" are still on the band's website for a limited time. "Embrace" (Taylor's
Song) co-written by Rich and Wes for Rich's brother Taylor while he was on life
support recently after a car crash, and the beautiful big ballad "Wasting Time".

Very Unique Existence's self-defined genre, "Positive Consciousness Rock" sees
the band donate part proceeds of every gig to a charity. This now has people
talking about the links between the positive messages in the music and their
commitment to walk their talk. If you hadn't heard about the little indie band
from Byron Bay with the big heart and truly unique sound, you now know who to
look out for this year as they bring their "Positive Consciousness Rock" to the
forefront of the Australian and International Market.

Like the band itself, the record has a heavy concept, featuring a continuity of
songs that Latimer hopes will open minds everywhere - Dan Lander Rolling Stone
June 2009

Blending influences from Silverchair to the lighter side of Kyuss, The group,
which has built a strong fan base by actively involving fan feedback into
song-writing and delivering rocking live shows locally and internationally, is a
more than healthy introduction to local radio. The Music Network 2008

With only a few days to go till the Snowy Mountains of Music and the
opening of the snow season, Perisher Valley is moving into action.

With over 45 acts and 140 shows at the Snowy Mountains of Music, Perisher
is readying the over-snows, testing the sound levels and stocking the
fridge in preparation for festival-goers getting into festival fever. With
early snowfalls and snowmaking activities already begun, Perisher will be
the perfect place for a Winter escape on the June long weekend. Even our
artists are pulling on their fluffy hoodies and trawling for the coolest
designer snow gear. (Wild Martins pictured).

If you’re celebrity spotting at the Snowy Mountains of Music look out for
the Festival Ambassador, one of the fastest skiiers in the the world and 6
times Paralympic gold medallist - Mr Michael Milton. Festival-goers may
also chance on Mr Tex Perkins or the very stylish Taasha from The Audreys
strutting their stuff on the snow fields.

From Friday 5th June to Monday 8th June Perisher Resort will be going off
with 11 venues in the valley bursting at the seams with the live sounds of
world, folk, funk, acoustic, blues/roots, gypsy, Zydeco, Celtic, cabaret
and traditional.

The festival kicks off on Friday at 5pm with the Smiggins Hotel and The
Man From Snowy River hosting a great selection of bands. At 5pm Damon

the very original sounds of Big Erle, Sal Kimber & the Good Ole Boys with
Ami Williamson at 8.45pm. At 9pm festival-goers at the Smigs stage can get
into party mode with the funky roots of A French Butler Called Smith at
9pm with The Audreys finishing off a fantastic night of music with their
first show at the festival at 11pm.

Saturday will begin with the festival opening and Perisher’s traditional
Blessing of the Snow at 10am at the Perisher Centre, then from 12pm bands
commence at a smorgasboard of small and large venues – acts will be at
Smiggins Hotel, The Man, Perisher Centre, Bazils Bar, Jax Bar, The
Sundeck, The Corroboree, The Eiger, Base 1720 Bar and Guthega Alpine.

starting the day at 10am and an opportunity to present your own poetry at
the Snowy Mountains Poetry Championship at 3pm at the Sundeck. Sunday will
be packed to the rafters with music across all venues, don’t forget to
highlight a very special concert brought to you by Handpicked Wines from

with Charlie Owen & James Cruickshank.

Finally, make sure you stick around for Monday, the last day of the
festival with lots to do including Circus for Kids, guitar maestro Bruce

CHARLTON HILL NEW ALBUM - SMALL TRIUMPHS IN TRAFFIC (MGM)

LAUNCH - Bar Me, Kings Cross, Sydney on Thursday June 4. Special guest for the
night is Dave McCormack. "Success to me is very small stages, a gig in Sydney.
I hope to have people there who want to hear the music and leave feeling it's
been a great night out".

Put yourself in Charlton Hill's shoes.

One day you're in London at Abbey Road putting finishes touches to your debut
album recorded on the same desk John Lennon previously used and the next day
your follow up album gets lost in a major record label merger. Your career now
hangs in the balance.....

The new album "Small Triumphs In Traffic"(MGM) not only embraces Charlton's past
experiences, but it forges ahead with something fresh and new. Of the production
Charlton says, "It's very organic. unashamedly so" before adding, "It's meant to
sound like a room of guys playing music together because it is! It's meant to
reflect what we do live".

"Small Triumphs In Traffic" represents a true artist evolving and taking
control of his career. "It's so liberating to let go of the past, to say, I want
to file away my life's lessons to date, the 'me' that was then is not the 'me'
that is now - I'm moving on".

The first single "As Long As You Can" is at radio now and will be officially
launched at Bar Me, Kings Cross, Sydney on Thursday June 4. Special guest for
the night is Dave McCormack. "Success to me is very small stages, a gig in
Sydney. I hope to have people there who want to hear the music and leave
feeling it's been a great night out".

Charlton's new album "Small Triumphs In Traffic" is out now via MGM.

"Well produced and thought out collection of great music that would keep you
cruising on a lazy afternoon... Well worth adding to your CD collection".

How many café customers hear the artists on soundslikecafe every week? Hundreds?
Thousands? Tens of thousands? In actual fact, it's even more.

Since its inception in 2003 soundslikecafe has established itself as the premium
café music network in Australia. With over 1200 cafes nationally, this unique
product has carved out a valuable place in the market as both a provider and
supporter of new music. Earlier this year we carried out our first ever customer
survey and the results were very surprising.

Over 1.3 million people a week are being exposed to the artists featured on
soundslikecafe. That's more than the entire population of Adelaide. More
importantly, over 880,000 sit down rather than take away their coffee so they
are enjoying the music even longer.

Based on an average of five trading days a week, over 260,000 customers a day
are listening to soundslikecafe. Overwhelmingly the results showed that the
cafes are playing soundslikecafe every day, with over 70% stating that they had
been playing soundslikecafe CD's for 3 years or more.

What was also surprising was the number of cafes who reported purchasing music
based on the music they heard on soundslikecafe. Over 50% of cafes had purchased
music at least four times a year after hearing the artists featured on
soundslikecafe and they all stated that their regular customers purchase even
more.

Seemingly Complex Question;

What do Agent Brown from the Matrix, Barry Humphries' musical director, a
guitarist from Mental As Anything, a star of Farscape and Stargate, and Massive
Attack's mixer on the classic Blue Lines album, have in common?

Simple Answer;

2am flight - Paul Goddard's debut album.

Goddard, gathered together this unlikely cast of collaborators to help him
create a loungey, chilled out trip of an album. 2am flight's inspiration came
from Goddard's love of cool 60s soundtracks, 70s and 80s electronica and the
dance music revolution of the 90s. 2am flight consists of one part lounge,
several parts jazz, equal parts electro and brass, shaken, stirred and decanted
into a smooth 11 tracks of instrumentals and vocals.

Goddard, a successful actor on both stage and screen (Babe, Holy Smoke, The
Matrix), started creating the album in his Kings Cross studio while working the
Sydney Theatre Company (STC).

It was while playing the role of Stark, on the hit Sci-fi show Farscape, that
Goddard met lead actress Claudia Black. Claudia, was the inspiration for the
track Groovy, which she brings to life with her inimitable cool and sassy
delivery.

Between seasons of Farscape, Goddard returned to the stage, appearing with
flamenco guitarist Greg Alfonzetti who was the first instrumentalist to perform
on the album. Alfonzetti, introduced another member of the acclaimed Arebatto
ensemble, instrumentalist and composer, Damian de Boos-Smith who co-produced a
number of 2am flight's tracks, bringing in a collection of jazz musicians, Bill
Risby - piano, Dave Ellis - bass, Paul Panichi - horns.

To add some electricity Mental As Anything guitarist Mike Caen was brought into
the project.. Caen obliged by creating a variety of motifs and hooks that
crackle throughout the album and particularly spark on Vernal Equinox.

Back at the Sydney Opera House and close to the end of 2am's production, Goddard
met Barry Humphries' musical director and co-writer Andrew Ross. Ross had a
listen to the album in progress and suggested bringing in the string ensemble
Fourplay.

To help bring the mix together Goddard called upon Jeremy Allom, who had come to
Goddard's attention not only because of his work as mixer/engineer with Massive
Attack and other stellar international artists but also because of the fine work
he'd done in particular as mixer on Jimmy Little's Messenger album. Allom worked
some magic and several weeks sequestered in Sydney's Big Jesus Burgher studio
saw the project that began in the dead of night in Kings Cross, finally see the
light of day.

The album secured Goddard a deal with Origin Music Publishing, and has lead to a
string of commissions. Currently back in the studio composing the music for the
short film Tribe, Goddard now has the opportunity to stay behind the camera,
scoring the drama instead of performing it.

Taking advantage of the developments in digital distribution 2am flight, was
first made available online, helping it take off around the world. And,
appropriately, several tracks were featured on the Qantas Inflight program. Also
of note is the current Number 8 chart positon on soundslikecafe's national chart
- collating airplay from over 1200 cafes who have been playing the title track
and, in some selected outlets, the entire album.

The album which has been flying around the world digitally is now available in
hard copy in local record stores via Chaos Distribution and is being serviced
nationally to Print, Online and Radio with the ABC National Network already
playing tracks as this goes out.
