From The Smiling Strangers (Vol 14)

It`s been great to be involved with SoundsLikeCafe and it has certainly raised
our profile "down under". We have sold many CDs to Aus and NZ since being
involved with you guys, so that's great. Also, the hits on our web site from
your part of the world has risen dramatically as well - so many thanks.

From Jen Garcia - Manager of Anthony Garcia (Vol 15)

"I found myself at Maple 3 (Maleny, QLD) and as I entered up the path way I
could hear some great music playing. I got to the counter and asked the guy
standing there "Who is this playing"? He said "It is Sounds Like Cafe, do you
know it? It is the best thing to ever happen to me and my business". He then
proceeded to tell me about the compilation etc and handed me a brochure. I told
him who I was and that Anthony was on it, much to his astonishment. He was
RAVING about your compilation CD. Then as I was waiting for the food and
coffees, on came the track, and it was great to hear it in the context of a
cafe........I think it works really well! "

  Cafe Comments

For Immeditae Release April 18 - Fogsongs Music Signs WA writer from The
Woodenelves

Fogsongs Music Publishing has recently signed Travis Caudle - principal song
writer for Perth band The Woodenelves to a worldwide publishing agreement.

After wrapping up the recording of the bands debut album Trips Between
Worlds(produced by Tim Powles of the Church) in 2006, The Woodenelves finished
the year with a coveted slot as the house band on ROVE LIVE. The episode was the
last of 2006 and also featured U2 and Deni & Marcia Hines.

Earlier in 2006, the four-piece rock act took out two national songwriting
awards for two tracks off the album - "A Little Bit of Me" won the rock/indie
category and "What It Is" won the contemporary pop/dance category of the
Australian Songwriters Association awards and flew to Sydney to take part in the
awards ceremony.

As well as producing the album, Powles' drumming prowess also features on the
CD, as does the bass talent of Steve Kilbey. The album was mastered by Don
Bartley in Sydney.

Travis said; "Having Fogsongs on board helping us as we launch our first
album is a great support, and we're really excited about it. It's given me a
chance to further concentrate on songwriting and gigging with the band as
Marshall and Paul help look for new opportunities for us in new markets."

Marshall Cullen MD of Fogsongs said 'Signing a Perth writer as talented as
Travis adds the much needed WA location to our roster so that we now have
writers signed in every state and Territory and as we are looking at strong US
opportunities for The Woodenelves material i believe great things will come from
our partnership - expect to see the boys on the East Coast sooner than you
think.'

Fogsongs Announce New Signing

Fogsongs Music Publishing Sydney Australia are proud to announce a new
singer/songwriter signing - Rosie Burgess - from Melbourne.

Rosie spent 2006 touring and promoting her previous album (viewed(though a
little distracted), spreading her bluesy folk sound to festivals and venues all
around the country, including Festival of the Sun and Woodford(in her other
incarnation as Panika - a dance electronica act)

Her brand new album Humble Pie, to be released in May, shows a depth of
songwriting and development grown out of her previous work and has already had a
track featured on the national cafe sampler soundslikecafe. The CD will be
released via MGM and will also be available on all download sites, including
Itunes, from May.

Her electronic work continues as well with two current Panika releases
genetically modified and 2 for breathing.(both on payne street records)

Bio:

Playing straight from the heart, Rosie keeps herself warm with her skillful
rootsy guitar, harmonica and mandolin playing, singing up a storm everytime she
takes the stage. Her music flows out of her whole body- at times edgy and
intense, at times raw and beautiful, it is always original and gripping.

"When you have heard rosie perform, you're sure to be tongue-tied trying to tell
people how good she is..." says Dave Ritter, organiser of the Bruthen Festival
of Blues and Arts.

2006 was an exciting year for Rosie Burgess, with gigs and festival appearances
all over Australia. Her last years album "viewed (though a little distracted)"
has been enjoying radio play on both community radio stations all over the
country and Triple J. The year saw Rosie play along side some of Australia's
finest musicians, including Ash Grunwald, Mia Dyson, Deborah Conway, Chris
Wilson and Blue King Brown.

Rosie's quirky and original tunes are captivating audiences wherever she goes.
Her high energy live shows and many live-to-air radio performances have secured
her a growing fan base of acoustic roots and folk lovers around the globe.

As a young kid Rosie started writing poetry on scrap pieces of paper and then
began to paste them into a book as the papers piled up. Nowadays she has a
bookshelf full of these poems which she weaves into songs, providing intimate
insights for her listeners into her unique view of the world.

Her new album Humble Pie(MGM) is due out in May. Some sneak preview tracks are

THE JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY

Canadian alt-rockers THE JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY kicked off the start of their
Australian tour with Augie March to a very welcome response from Augie's
Tasmanian audiences. The Republic Bar's operators enjoyed JPE so much, they
asked the band to stick around an extra night to headline their own show. Prior
to their arrival, the JPE also picked up awards for Single of the Year ('Nowhere
With You'), Songwriter of the Year and DVD of the Year ('Make A Little Noise')
at the Canadian East Coast Music Awards. The 'Make A Little Noise' album/DVD is
now available in Australia through Code One/MGM.

The Music Man Of Oz
By Sonia F Stevens©

This is not to morn the passing of the man,
This is to celebrate what the man achieved.
The Music was his soul,
The times were full of Rock and Roll.
Giving his soul to the people
He was the light in a shining steeple.

He lived the life
He deferred all strife
He cared for the land Of Australia
He cared for life, love and music.

He lived and celebrated life
Through hard times
Good times
The music never left his soul
This man, of Australian Rock and Roll.

Billy Thorpe believed in music
Billy Thorpe believed in Australia
This man believed in its entire people.
This is a man who is still a true legend.

Tecoma 'Home Brew' National Tour

As part of an extensive national tour in the lead-up to her debut album "Home
Brew" release, award winning singer-song writer Tecoma will be performing her
infectious brand of alternative roots music at The Vanguard on March 7th.

Sopported by Patrick Carr and Zoe and The Buttercups.

Tix available from Moshtix and the venue.

In the last little while Tecoma has shared the stage with Ben Lee in Berlin,
performed for Swedish royalty in an outback steakhouse, with Sarah Blasko at the
close of the Darwin Festival and headlined shows at the Famous Spiegletent in
Edinburg. In 2006 Tecoma was the recipient of a John Butler Seed grant and APRA
professional development award, in recognition of her song writing capabilities
as well as her capacity to make a significant contribution to music in
Australia.

With songs born in the desert and shaped in the city, Tecoma's unique mix of
influences range from contemporary roots, to jazz and traditional middle eastern
music styles. This bold new music has been penned by an individual spirit and
has best been described as City-folk; Music that knows its history, but is
elbow-deep engaged with life unfolding all around it, present tense.

With a stronghold of fans across the country and a much-anticipated debut album
due for release in the near future, Tecoma is creating waves in her wake and you
get the feeling that she's only just warming up.

Damien Studio News FEB 2007

Sessions

It seems like the holidays never happened with back to back sessions underway
this month.

Jez Ashurst Songwriter(2 recent co writes have earned him number ones in the UK
and JP) and Frontman for UK band Farrah who have been in town lately also does
the odd bit of producing along with production partner Andy Campbell. The pair
took advantage of being downunder to produce and track the tunes for the next
Montana album at Damien Gerards. The record will be mixed by the pair in London
and is slated for a summer UK release. The guys fell in love with the studios
classic Shure SM7 Mic's and also utlisied the extremely versatile Audio Technica
AT4050 on everything from snare to vocals.

The Charles Manson Experiment have finally mixed their debut EP with producer
Andrew Beck over a three day lockout which allowed them to get all the bells and
whistles fitted in just right!

Upload One artists Behind Chicken Wire, Sideswiped, MurmuR, Hailer and Matt
Heath have all been in tracking and mixing.(see full artists list below)

Jazz/Blues singer/songwriter Peter Miller Robinson has been working on his next
release with Russell Pilling engineering.

4Bolt will be back on form this year with a new album and video and were spotted
putting the finishing touches to a couple of tracks with Russell as well.

The Honey Palace will visit the studio next week to put down a bunch of new
tunes for Publisher Fogsongs Music.

Mastering

William Bowden has been busy as ever since his new rewire and installation of a
Sequoia Compiler and digital patchbay.

This means ISRC numbers can now be inserted direct onto CD's - a must in the new
digital world.

Recent clients have included The Teddy Sexuals, a Norwegian Dance Project

transferred via FTP, Soft Tigers, The Scare(UK), The Angry Tradesman(Rob Hirst)

The budget mastering in The Red stairs room has seen some sessions also

with Andrew Beck taking the reigns for a young metal band and Kristian Hill
mastering the latest soundslikecafe Volume 15.

  Myspace Deal

The DG's myspace recording special www.myspace.com/damiengerard is going strong
The Biscuits taking up the reduced rates deal for this month and will track and
mix with Russell. The deal allows young bands to have 6 hours free preproduction
time the night before their 12 hour lockout - more than enough to get some
quality tracks down to get gigs, raise awareness and

post on the net.

Whatever your recording-, protools-, mixing-, mastering-, compiling-, or CD
manufacture requirements are, telephone the D.G's office to discuss on 02 9331

Dear friends

My new CD is here!

Over two years in the making - 'The Art of Illusion'. On this long
awaited follow-up I've fused Eastern music elements (Indian/Turkish)
with progressive hard rock.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Excerpt from 'The Rendall Wagner Band'

In generating a fusion of progressive rock and eastern music, the
Rendall Wagner Band lures the listener into a trance with the haunting
sounds of the flute alongside timeless eastern rhythms with pieces
like The Mammoth and Io. This is also how the Rendall Wagner Band
weaves its magic through songs such as Sugar Sweet, Waiting and The
Art of Illusion, mixing haunting melodies with heavy rock riffs
through the high-volume power chords of guitar, bass and drums
reminiscent of the hard rock of Led Zeppelin. In moving from the
margins to the mainstream, the Rendall Wagner Band blends eastern
sounds of Turkey, Egypt and India using the baglama, darrabuka,
harmonium and drone alongside more mainstream rock tunes through songs
such as Drawn, Embrace and Because I Love You.

As a singer/songwriter, Rendall Wagner is clearly influenced by his
Indian and Australian ancestry referenced in his lyrics that move from
a reflection on the tragedy of World War I and Vietnam to a reflection
on the destruction of humanity and the age of Kali. Meaningful lyrics
about life, love and even the music industry also form part of the
eclectic composition of Wagner's music.
Deirdre Howard
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you like to hear it or find out more? Sample it online -
website below.

Better still - 'The Art of Illusion' along with my debut album 'Aum'
can be purchased online via Paypal, retail outlets (see website for
stockists) or directly at gigs. See the official website for more
details.

More importantly, I hope we can catch up sometime soon and you get to
see my amazing new band. Tour details on web and in local gig guides.

Warm regards

FEBRUARY NEWS FROM FOGHORN

www.emilydavis.com.au

ARTIST: Emily Davis

ALBUM: Moving in Slow Motion

OUT ON: MGM

Emily's music is a finely crafted expression of home truths woven with earthy
acoustic sounds and hauntingly beautiful words.

Rhythmic guitar and rich vocals are combined in Emily's unique and dynamic
artistry.

Born and bred in Adelaide, Emily has gone from sitting on a toy box playing an
electric banjo at age 3, bred with classic rock, folk and

cabaret pop to becoming a talented singer/songwriter ready to release her debut
album

Sounds and stories, reflections and ballads about the beauty and tragedy of
urban pursuits, are brought to life in her songwriting.

The charisma in her live performance is warm and inviting, drawing the audience
in for an especially moving experience.

"Moving in Slow Motion" is Emily's debut album and was produced by Monique
Brumby.

. The album features 'Badloves' drummer Chris Tabone, Maryanne Window, Bass
player

ARTIST: The Bad Machines

TITLE: Telling Lies

OUT ON: FOG/MGM

RELEASE DATE: MARCH 5

LAUNCH DATE: MARCH 3 @ "The Spanish Club", Sydney City

The inter-continental duo of Michelle Margherita and Paul Scott, who are

based respectively in London and Sydney, have pieced together an album of
not-so-ordinary love songs

that stitch together noise and nuance with grinding guitars and drum-machine
beats.

Not the usual girl-vocal/boy-technology pop duo, Telling Lies is a shimmering
electro-indie-pop gem that

includes bubblegum-punk tracks like Two Heads and Kidz before simmering down
with hypnotic, minimally textured beauties like the title track,

Telling Lies, and it's sister tune, Folkways.Composed and compiled by Michelle
and Paul emailing files across the world,

Telling Lies is a beautiful collection of songs that only exist because of the
kind of trans-global collaboration that the internet allows.

When they are in the same country, on stage, The Bad Machines are a chaotic mix
of instrument swapping, judo moves, new-wave dancing and stillness.

Their recent tour of the UK, Germany, France and Spain proved to crowds that the
band can rock while quietly connecting with their audience.

The Bad Machines debut album Telling Lies will be released in Australia in

March 2007. They will be playing live in Sydney in February 2007.

ARTIST: Van Sereno

TITLE: Persistence

RELEASE DATE: March 5th

OUT ON: MGM

ALBUM LAUNCH: March 6th The Vanguard

The second album from sydney's fresh indie singer/songwriter Van Sereno sees him
producing himself, the end result being a collection of catchy

songs that stand testament to originality yet true to the formula of commercial
and contemporary pop music. A step up from the thought provoking

debut "i think i know", this prolific writer has chosen to use this next batch
of songs to be very lyrics driven, many of them sticking to his trade

mark stories of love and relationships. from the funky "Theres something there",
to the beautiful simplicity of "Sit back relax", and the foot

stomping "Thank you for tonight", Van Sereno has shown he has gained much
insight and has matured in his time on the live circuit. Stand out tracks

is the frollicking "Little bonsai" and of course the title track "Persistence",
two songs that though has a casual and rootsy presentation

to it, both weigh heavy on its metaphor and double meanings that many may relate
to. In his own words "you can't beat persistence",

and as the old saying goes "if you can't beat them, join them", my guess is you
will - joining him in sing along that is.

www.paulturnermusic.com

ARTIST: Paul Turner

TITLE: Clear Blue

DISTIBUTION/LABEL: MGM / Green Media

RELEASE DATE: February 2007

"Come with me to this place. You decide the way. Come with me to this land. We
live our lives to plan."

Paul Turner entices you with the chorus of the album's first track, "City
Lights", and his powers of persuasion continue for ten inspirational tracks.

There's no resisting Turner's invitation to savour life, and the journey he
takes the listener on is unforgettable.

Clear Blue is a powerful and evocative collection from a singer-songwriter who
has heartfelt messages to share and an accessible and joyous musical expression
with which to convey them.

Bringing a mature, world-wise yet unfailingly optimistic attitude to his work,
Turner is an independent artist whose music is instantly accessible to fans of
rock, pop and folk.

While harking back to a time when songs were earnest and pure without commercial
consideration, Turner is a thoroughly contemporary tunesmith,

and his songs are destined for acclaim internationally. Turner's engaging
acoustic-rock style and simple, effective lyrics are showcased on Clear Blue,

which was produced by Adrian Hannan (Taxiride, Vanessa Amorosi, The Superjesus)
and mastered by Oscar Gaona at Studios 301 in Sydney.

"I'm appealing to the deeper aspect of ourselves, the part that stirs stuff up,"
Turner explains.

His melodic finger picking guitar style favours open tunings and unusual chord
progressions, and his voice has a directness that touches the soul.

He sees himself as a kind of painter. "I try to have quite wide brushstrokes so
people can look at my work as they like."

"Come With Me", from Clear Blue, is about moving forward in both spiritual and
earthly ways. "It's about letting everything go," says Turner.

"All the conditioning, things that keep you tied in, your ideas of romance, any
concepts that are strong in your psyche and keep you restricted.

Sometimes when I sing the song I think about trekking around Fairy Bower in the
Southern Highlands; other times I think about being in India..."

Fogsongs music publishing is proud to announce a new singing;

Singer/Songwriter Jeff Cashen

With a very commercial adult contemporary album already in the can - produced
and mixed by Steve Scanlon(Diesel, Phrase, Kate Ceberano)

- videos to go with it and a Chris Isaak like live acoustic show, Jeff's roll
out is planned for May this year - stay tune for the youtube link...

Jeffs Story so far;

"I started playing covers to pay my way through med school. After a while this
got tiring and I started writing my own songs. I always wanted to stay lo-fi but
the turning point came when I started listening to a lot of the American artist
like Dave Matthews and John Mayer. I realised this was the recording quality I
wanted my music to have." To find such values Cashen left his native Queensland
and found himself in the studio of Melbourne producer and mix engineer Steve
Scanlon. "When we spoke about what I wanted to achieve Scanners got excited
about the project. We were trying a make a product which a lot of artists go to
the states to create." With Threads now complete, Cashen has relocated from
Brisbane to Sydney and is currently in the process of finalising national
distribution deal both here in Australia and the United States where he
performed shows in New York late last year.

Of the signing he said "I've been looking for a support network for some time
now as I've done everything myself up till now -

a chance tip off resulted in meeting Marshall and Paul - and the rest -
hopefully- is history"

Marshall Cullen of Fogsongs added;

"We are starting to broaden the roster now and with one of our main marketing
strengths being the soundslikecafe series, Jeffs high quality songs and
production values are a great fit

to expand into the more commercial genre's."

and upward for Van Sereno....

Sydney R n B / Pop solo artist Van Sereno will launch his second album at The
Vanguard Tuesday March 6 along with Claude Hay and fun funksters Dlvr

Its been an impressive journey these past 2 years for Van, his first album 'I
think I Know'(MGM) scored points all round, airplay, plenty of live shows great
reviews;
" From the catchy acoustic riffs to smooth RnB i can't help feeling Sereno is
singing every song to my girlfriend."- Australian Guitar Mag .
.Van was a feature artist on soundslikecafe and consequesntly the album went to
a second pressing.

Last year also saw a spot on the successful Home Grown Roots compilation and
culminated with an offer to shoot a video for the new single and title track to
the new album
"Persistence' in New York as well as a coveted live slot at The Peats Ridge
Festival on his return from the USA.

The album was recorded at damien gerards in Sydney and produced by Van and
Russel Pilling - with the cracking new live line up the whole record only took 4
weeks from start to finish.

The video was directed by upcomer Jaclyn Amor and was shot at classic locations
like Rockaway Beach, Times Square and Central Park - the result speaks for
itself - being serviced now and also on utube at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t-0sKuYXMI

Van has learnt a lot and matured quickly into a real contender and in his own
words "you can't beat persistence", and as the old saying goes

Two buzzing UK bands with a common Aussie thread will both be playing live in
Sydney in the coming weeks;

Farrah -
Farrah's sound isn't easy to pigeonhole. Marrying the vocal sensibilities of the
Beach Boys to the all-out rock of Weezer via the self-effacing lyrics of The
Streets and the pop sensibilities of Jellyfish was always going to set the band
apart. And with comparisons as diverse as ELO to FOW, Supergrass to
Supertramp, the band isn't a stranger to critical acclaim. Farrah's albums have
garnered 4 stars in Q magazine, and approving nods from BBC radio
cognoscenti as diverse as Steve Lamacq and Bob Harris. They've gigged with
everyone from Ash to The Feeling, Hanson to Phantom Planet, played
Glastonbury festival, appeared live on Japanese TV and toured pretty much
everywhere in the world except America. and Australia.
Detouring downunder via Tokyo for their first promotional tour following shows
in Spain and their fourth Japanese tour (their third seeing them play to 24,000
fans at Yokohama Arena at the Nano-Mugen Festival), Farrah will be bringing
their eclectic brand of pop-mayhem to Sydney in February . It's a
surprise the band haven't played in Australia before now, considering Farrah
bass player and Sydney-native-turned-Aussie-abroad Michelle Margherita has
been showing the Brit boys how it's done for the past few years.
Catch Farrah live at the Cat and Fiddle Balmain Friday February 16th ahead of
the Australian release of Cut Out And Keep later in 2007.

Have you ever had the urge to put a harmonica to your lips and
play some blues? Maybe you've tried, but sounded more like Dylan on
a bad day than Little Walter or Sonny Boy Williamson.

'Mouth from the South' Tony Maguire is coming to the rescue. He's
running a special beginners harmonica workshop at Canberra's
Statesman Hotel on Saturday February 3, then another beginners'
session at The Artery in Melbourne on Sun Feb 4.

Sponsored by Hohner, which is providing a `C' harmonica for each
participant, the four hour workshop is called Introduction to the
Harmonica and runs 11:30am to 3:30pm. Cost is $125 including the
harmonica, instruction CD and lunch.

Maguire has been playing harmonica since the age of five.
The 'Mouth from the South' tag came when he lived and played 'harp
in the Northern Territory, where his playing can be heard every
Saturday morning as the intro tune to a blues show on 8KIN FM in
Alice Springs.

  "It's called Clarry's Blues and it's a tribute to the show's
compere big Clarry Satour, who gave me a lot of encouragement when I
was in the Territory," Maguire says.

Most recently Mouth from the South has played with The Keith
Armiger Band, Missing Button and Steve Flack of 'Guitar Heroes'
show fame in Sydney in tandem with holding the beginners' harp
workshops.

Workshop places are limited to 20 people a session. For a copy of
brochure/registration form, send email headed 'harp workshop' to
tmaguire01@... or phone 0402 388742

PS: 'Mouth from the South' will be showcasing his full-tilt playing
in advance at the Canberra Blues Society jam, Statesman Hotel, mid-
afternoon Sunday Jan 21st.

Hey, harmonica players -- reckon you've got what it takes to blow your
way to winning a gold-plated Hohner harmonica at the Tamworth country
music festival? Well, here's your chance to put your harp where your
mouth is and prove it!

Hohner's Golden Harmonica Championships take place Saturday Jan 27 at
Tamworth's Southgate Inn. And you don't have to be a cowboy-hat
wearing country music player to enter.

"Competitors can play whatever style of music they like," says
organiser Tricia Smits. "And they can use any type of harmonica."

Players of all ages are welcome and entry in the competition is free.
Players have the choice of performing solo, with their own
accompaniment or with the house band, playing two numbers. First
prize is a gold-plated Hohner Chromatic harmonica worth more than $500.

For more information or entry form, contact Tricia Smits on 0403
