PALM SUNDAY

April 1 is a date we can have some fun with, while driving some serious
messages home.

The fools who started foolish wars in Iraq, Afghanistan,
Palestine/Israel and too many other places around our world must be
seriously protested.

We should also say no to nuclear fools and their fool hardy ideas about
25 nuclear power plants for Australia. No Way! The ALP also need to
hear a loud and clear "No Uranium Mining" before their national
conference in late April. Kim Beazley should not be fooled by the dodgy
uranium mining industry; our country should not go nuclear and we should
stop exporting uranium, especially to Nuclear Weapon States like China
and the US, and perhaps also to India. Leave uranium in the ground so
that it never becomes part of nuclear weapons or plutonium that lasts
for 250,000 years!

Organizing will start in earnest next year, but for Melbourne Groups, a
brainstorming meeting will take place at 6pm on Monday 11 December, in
the Baretto cafe on the corner of Grattan and Barry Streets in Carlton.

If you would like to register your interest in staying informed, or in
organizing an event in your local area, please simply send an email to
felicity.hill@...

You will be sent the minutes and ideas raised in our local brainstorm
for possible activities and themes you might like to use. Feel free to
send in your ideas and suggestions!

best wishes
Felicity

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

Palm Sunday
1 April, 2007

Your organisation is invited to join a broad and diverse coalition of
organisations that will be established to plan and organise successful Palm
Sunday events with churches, unions etc in capital cities and towns across
Australia.

Palm Sunday in 2007 is an attractive date to:

· Harness and expand the anti-nuclear sentiment that is re-emerging
across the country by reengaging people and bringing new people into the
campaign;

· Remind the ALP not to back down on their No New Uranium Mines policy at
their national conference in late April;

· Inform Australians in the lead up to the November federal election.

The size, flavour and scale and events will vary across the country, but it is
proposed that the underpinning 'feel' of the event is a positive party type
atmosphere with a campaign boosting 'up feel.' The fact that this is April Fools
Day already suggests some joviality, and might encourage some themed slogans,
"Don't be a Nuclear Fool Howard/Beazley", Nuclear Fools: Not us" etc.

Groups present in each location would decide on the best kind of action or event
for their community - it might be a rally, a silent vigil, or a cultural event.
The generous lead-time we have could be used to work on a joint communications
strategy, and to use our collective strength to secure big name/appealing acts,
venues, networking, and promotions. It may make sense to pool our finances for
adequate and attractive promotion materials, venue hire, technical equipment
etc.

We urge you to indicate your participation and endorsement of this proposal by
contacting Felicity Hill, co-ordinator of the Medical Association for the
Prevention of War's International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons??,
<felicity.hill@...>, ph (03) 8344 1637?.

This initial proposal has been endorsed so far by

Medical Association for the Prevention of War

Friends of the Earth, Australia

Australian Conservation Foundation

Environment Centre of the Northern Territory

Peace Organisation of Australia

" Chief Red Cloud of the Sioux observed otherwise. In the end, every
old warrior, chieftain or common soldier who ever fought knows what
the fool continually ignores: the most enduring fort is a permanent
peace built on a foundation of justice."
