Subject: [Green-Activist] status of upper house, Victoria Tuesday 5th Dec

Results from the Victorian election upper house on www.vec.vic.gov.au as of
today at 11AM indicate the following results from me at bottom. You have all
not heard from me for a long time due to a variety of constant disasters, most
recently 4hard drive crashes. However, I decided to look at the results today.
The Greens believe that we need to win 3 seats to take the balance of power.
I do not believe this is true because the conservatives have polled
unfortunately well.
The quota on the website for the 8 regions with 5 positions available each (=40)
is 1/6 of total votes plus 1. Based on the indicated quotas for today, given
that there is still a fair bit of postal vote counting and checking to do, and
looking at the group voting tickets (i.e. how all the parties distribute
preferences) www.vec.vic.gov.au/grvotingtickets.html I think it will be a
conservative upper house in Victoria- unless the ALP relies on the Greens.
In other words, this is very close to a hung parliament in the Upper House.
So unless the ALP deals with the Greens on almost every bill, it will not get
its legislation through if the conservatives vote against it. Interesting
outcome.
Results as I see them are listed below. It should be noted the Greens did
extremely well in the Upper as well as the lower house, and without the Upper
House preferencing by the conservatives towards even ALP over us, we would
probably have Louis in my area and Marcus in western Vic in the upper house as
well. (Bastards!) My upper house ballot paper read like a conservatives dream,
choose from either Fred Nile, Family First, the Nats or the DLP!! No second
choice at all! Without this stacking by the conservatives in a number of areas,
they would not be doing nearly as well, and would not have given Victoria what I
think will be a hung parliament. Either the ALP deals with us, or we get to
have another election next year at the same time as the federal one!!
As it stands it seems that we have put two candidates in, Greg and Sue
(congrats guys) in Northern and Southern metropolitan seats in Melbourne
respectively.
I think the results are:-
Liberals 16
Nationals 3
Greens 2
ALP 19
oh my goodness!

This is based on results in the seats as follows:
Eastern Metropolitan Libs 3, ALP 2
Southeastern Metropolitan Libs 2, ALP 3
Southern Metropolitan Greens 1 Libs 3 ALP 1
Northern Metropolitan Greens 1 Libs 1 ALP 3
Western Metropolitan Libs 1 ALP 4 (although it could be 2, 3)
Eastern Victoria Libs 2 ALP 2 Nats 1 (although it
could be Greens 1)
Northern Victoria Libs 2 ALP 2 Nats 1
Western Victoria Libs 2 ALP 2 Nats 1 (although it
could be Greens 1)

Mind you there is still a bit of counting to do!
