WATER DESALINATION PUBLIC MEETING
Date: Tuesday the 6th of March from
Time: 6.30pm
Place: Tugun Community Centre (next to the Castle).

Speakers will include:
a.. Alan Davie from the Gold Coast Desalination Alliance (who are
constructing the plant). Alan will be giving us a general overview of
the plant.
b.. Bruce Dennien from the Queensland Water Commission.
c.. Brad Smith, Chairperson -Fix Currumbin Creek Committee and local
fisherman.
d.. Ian Cohen - Greens Upper House MP, who led a parliamentary inquiry
into the Sydney desalination plant.
Also in attendance will be Councillor Daphne McDonald. Cr McDonald will
be
available to answer questions at the end of the speakers.

Ruth Rosenhek and John Seed of the Rainforest Information Centre
address the hopeless despair that many feel and how this can be
transformed into the fuel for empowerment and effective action. The
multi-media presentations address the false and "business as usual",
solutions being touted by the major political parties ("clean" coal and
nuclear power, etc.) and suggest where the real solutions may be found.
Participants are encouraged to join or form Climate Study/Action groups
as a vehicle for communities to build resilient networks in which we
can support each other in the changes we need to collectively make as
well as to encourage each other to lobby government for strong climate
change platforms in the lead-up to the state and federal elections.

GIVE US SHOES!!
We are collecting 655 shoes each pair representing a thousand deaths
since the Iraq war began. The shoes will be made into an installation
to build awareness on the ongoing war and Talisman Sabre 07
US-Australia joint war games taking place in Qld May to July this year.
Brisbane Friends of the Earth is the collection point. They are located
