No doubt some energy from destructive distillation of grass can act
as a stopgap. However, nothing can replace petroleum. Attempts to do
so simply replace one form of use of topsoil, water and land with
another.
Way back the second report of the Club of Rome predicted exactly what
is happening now: any one problem can be attacked with a
technological solution, but this is necessarily at the cost of
worsening one or more other problems. Look at the effects of biodiesel.
