Australian Climate Movement Ramps Up Pressure on Coal-Fired Power
from www.climatemovement.org.au
Beginning with Bayswater Power Station in New South Wales on Saturday,
and ending with Tarong Power Station in Queensland on Friday, the last
week has seen peaceful direct action taken against coal-fired power
stations by the communities right across the country.
This unprecedented display of co-ordinated community opposition to
fossil-fueled power heralds a new level of climate action in
Australia. In New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and
Queensland, power stations were significantly disrupted and widespread
media drew attention to the links between coal and climate change in
the country most disproportionately responsible for both.
It is little wonder that the media are now consistently referring to
members of the climate movement as `Power Protesters'.
Over the course of the week, actions took place against:
* Bayswater Power Station, New South Wales (Saturday 1st November)
* Collie Power Station, Western Australia (Wednesday 5th November)
* Hazelwood Power Station, Victoria (Thursday 6th November)
* Tarong Power Station, Queensland (Friday 7th November)
