Hi John,
I've found that when I change my Plan from one form to another, eg
Wireless (no phone necessary) back to Phone line, a mandatory change in
email address is imposed. The companies seen to desire that a 1 or a 2
be inserted.
When one wants to, or is obliged to change email addresses, excellent
relief is obtainable by paying one's provider a small sum per annum, eg
$25, for all emails from the old address to be automatically forwarded
to the new one.
It's probable that different providers have different rules and fees.
