Fossil Fools Day has really taken off! While some groups are keeping
their plans under wraps for obvious reasons, others have been writing
in with publicly announced actions that all are welcome and
encouraged to go along to.

So far two biggies in London (sorry to the non-UK people), both
focused on Kingsnorth, which if built will be the first new coal-
fired power station in the UK in 30 years:

*Funeral for coal in Parliament square*
Plans include a giant power station complete with smoke being built
in parliament square and a mass of mourners dressed in black.
Planning meeting on 18th March at 6pm at Gordon House 106, University
College London. All welcome! Organised by People and Planet, WDM and
Greenpeace.
More info: Richard Roaf, richardroaf@..., 07890085938

*Stop Kingsnorth Laugh-In*
Meet 8 AM at 1 Victoria Street (nearest tube: St. James's Park) for a
laughing extravaganza to show BERR, the government department
responsible for the decision, how ludicrous their plans few new coal
at Kingsnorth are.
Organised by Stop Kingsnorth/World Development Movement.
More info: wdm@..., 0207 820 4900

Plans are also afoot in many other places around the country, so
contact us if you'd like to get involved, or better yet, organise
your own action! Check out www.risingtide.org.uk/fossilfoolsday for
loads of resources and support:
-actions booklet with 15 ideas for action against the fossil fuel
industry, including planning tips, target locations, examples of
successful actions and more,
-posters, leaflets and graphics to make your own materials,
-coming soon: a generic leaflet you can adapt to hand out on the day
and a Q&A sheet for answering media questions.

Whatever you do, make sure to call (07961 917 535) or email us
(info@...) on the day so we can add your action to our
end-of-day round up, and show the world what grassroots action
against the fossil fuel industry can achieve.

We are in the middle of an unstoppable rise of creative, radical,
necessary direct action against climate change… be part of it, on
Fossil Fools Day and beyond.

Did you know it takes 90 years to grow a box of Kleenex?

Teach Kimberly Clark a Real Lesson: Special Invitation to Parents,
Teachers and Students

Every time you blow your nose with Kleenex tissue, you're blowing
away an ancient forest. And every time you buy Scott or Cottonelle at
the store, you're flushing old growth trees down the toilet.

Most of the pulp Kimberly-Clark uses for its disposable tissue
products comes from unsustainable sources. This includes wood from
ancient forests like the Canadian Boreal Forest.

As the biggest tissue manufacturer on the planet, Kimberly-Clark has
the resources to shift toward sustainability but it is refusing to
use recycled paper in its products. Instead, the largest stretch of
ancient forest in North America is being clearcut for disposable
paper products.
~~~~~~~~~
Are you a student, teacher or parent? We need YOU to help schools
across the country replace Kleenex and other Kimberly-Clark products
with recycled alternatives that are better for the environment. .
We've launched a new online toolkit with everything you need to get
educated, get involved and help make your school more forest
friendly, including facts, classroom exercises, step-by-step guides,
and sample resolutions.
Start your own Kleenex Free Schools project today and be part of the
solution for our ancient forests.
You also can SHOW the company how you feel. We've rolled out a new
online tool so you can send a photo and a message directly to
Kimberly Clark.
From Greenpeace USA
I've witnessed a few "coincidences" in my time, but even I was
shocked when I learned about this one. After three years of dragging
its feet, the U.S.. Fish and Wildlife Service was due to release a
final decision on endangered species status for the polar bear on
January 9th. But that date came and went with no decision. Less than
a month later, on February 6, the Minerals Management Service leased
29 million acres of prime polar bear habitat for oil drilling. And
what makes it all the more stunning is that both the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service and the Minerals Management Service are part of the
Department of Interior.
We felt it was important to send a message to the Bush Administration
this week that drilling for oil while failing to protect the polar
bear is unacceptable. We declared the headquarters of the Department
of Interior as 'critical habitat for oil lobbyists.' Then we followed
up that message with a lawsuit along with The Center for Biological
Diversity and National Resources Defense Council to force Secretary
of Interior, Dirk Kempthorne to finally release a decision on the
polar bear.
Get the full story >> http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/news/another-
delay-in-the-fight-to
Check out our video of Greenpeace activists at the Department of
Interior >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFQErdbD8hM
Polar bears have waited three years for protection under the
Endangered Species Act. It's time for the Department of Interior to
give us a decision.
~~ The World Has Turned The Corner ~~
'The Big World Gathering' says 'think big', notice
good trends and events are happening, speak up and
participate to help further positive change take place.
Billions of people know the world must make a positive
change, and with the following two declarations in 2007,
the world turned the corner towards a better future.
In December 2007, the Lakotah people of North
America informed the USA government that the
Lakotah are withdrawing from all treaties.
Lakotah spokesperson, Russell Means, stated:
"WE ARE WITHDRAWING FROM THE USA"
http://www.republicoflakotah.com
In October 2007, the Mayor of Salt Lake City,
Ross 'Rocky' Anderson, made a compelling public
speech, in which he declared:
"WE WON'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!"
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/28179
~~~~~~~~~

We have turned the corner.

Now let's change the world.

To help the world along its positive trend, here are
simple and effective ways to get the world on course:

~~ Those who know the truth, should be strong,
and stand up and tell others what they know ~~

'The Big World Gathering is happening now wherever
you are by you sharing with others what you really feel
and think about life today, and by distributing information
you believe is important. At a later stage, perhaps soon
to happen, all our individual actions may help lead to
something quite surprising; a major world change.'
~ Dedication for The Big World Gathering

'We must do what we conceive to be the right thing
and not bother our heads or burden our souls with
whether we will be successful. Because if we don't
do the right thing, we will be doing the wrong thing
and we will just be a part of the disease and not
a part of the cure.'  ~  E F Schumacher

Hiya wordgathering promoting person...

I have not said much about your posts to date because to date you
have caused no harm.

Unfortunately your latest post inferring that our planet is faulty
tends to ride me the wrong way.

You see... humanity, and all those other critters that do not know
yet know the logistics of how to type on a keyboard are in a state of
evolution.

...and our planet, the place we all reside on together, has always
been perfect for us all.

We (us humans) are but caretakers of this paradise for the next
generation and the generation after that...
It is up to us to evolve into a better species, our home cannot
evolve for us. There is nothing faulty about our planet.

Please, understand that I mean you no harm in stating what i see as
fact.

I do not wish to exchange in a diatribe on the spiritual side of
humankind and wish you well with your worldgathering stuff... but
this is not really the place to spruke it.
This site is for ACTION to mitigate climate change.
Can you offer this group some positive way forwards (apart from your
own website?)

Warm regards
Anne

Take Back Your Power, by Matthew

Snakes and Ladders
Guns and Daggers
Thieves and Braggers
In My Way

We're tired of seeing broken faces
Poverty Stricken places
Manipulated Races
Every day

I went to the University to ask "How and Why"
Taught to repeat so I know they're going to lie
They say we came from the ocean
They say we swung from the trees
A random mistake
A Cosmic Sneeze

I went to the temple and I knocked on the door
I asked "What's the guilt and the suffering for?"

"Be still my child in us put your trust"
Let us suck your blood grind your bones into dust

These.

Snakes and Ladders
Guns and Daggers
Thieves and Braggers
In Our Way

Believe in Yourself
Take back your Power
Talk to each Other
Let's make a Better day

We see too many - abused faces
Desecrated places
Let's share with other races
Let our children play

Kill your snake to climb your ladder
Wield your pen and drop your dagger
When we all will join together
Who can stand in Love's Way?

We can heal the broken faces
We will replant the wasted spaces
Just talk with other races
Why not start today?

More news on topic from Prof. P.Cullen, who, as understood, still
overcome a fate of his then-governing national-liberal cronies at a post
of an Australian Water Commissioner:

It is not so easy for students to grasp a semantic but significant
difference between "necessity" and "essentiality" while
analysing higher math solutions usually.

Perhaps, a title "professor" itself in areas not dealing with plying
native language only but in technical, applied science water-related
activities surely are, supposes one to clear distinct such a difference,
while speaking of roles petrol and water historically posses in/for
human existence.

Naively (?) misleading public on a very nature of and necessity for
human beings to merely survive hardly reflects distinctive realities of
both water-supply-responsible-government's obligations and simply
playing different power resources, among which oil/petrol are
artificially overestimated commodities in contemporary Australia
factually.

By a way, a human being can survive just a few days without water as
petrol and oil appeared on menu just about two centuries ago since
appetite for computing games substituted natural brain activities in
some "advanced civilised" countries.

'THE GATHERING' by Sitting Bull

It is very important that as many people as possible,
in different places, should take part in the Gathering.
Decide where and when and how to gather.
Your participation is needed.

This is the beginning of the break we are all waiting for;
for you all on Earth and ourselves out here. This is the
beginning of the turn around. We have waited so long for
the change. It is time. This is the beginning of the end
of the old ways; the turning of the tide.

State what you believe is true. Courage is the ability to go
beyond the familiar. Exchange the information and hopes
you have. Always in the world, a change starts with a few
people. These few speak the feelings and thoughts of a
multitude. They speak the heart of humanity's soul.

The people and ETs who will come together shall ring
in a return, a turn around. There will come a flow on Earth
which will burst the dark energies surrounding you and
your planet. That which you believe is true must be stated.
The truth is the key.

May strength and vision be yours as you establish the new.
Follow your hearts. Let your inner light be your guide.
Realise the beauty and greatness you have within yourself
and step ahead. This is the time so many have waited
so long for. Never doubt it has started.

The young of all nations are looking for a new direction.
It is time to light a beacon to show the way for all humanity.
Let your feelings, thoughts and beliefs be your guiding light.
The power of the moment. The wishes of the people.
The good times ahead.

It is time for the gathering.

'The Gathering' by Matthew

Last night I had a gathering for all my departed friends
I asked Jim Morrison where he'd been
He just laughed and smiled,
Spoke of what he'd seen

He said "I've been to the end of the rainbow"
He said "I've seen supernovae burst"
But before I could ask a question,
He said "Let me finish first"

He said "I have something to tell you",
This really is the MASTER KEY
ONLY! ONLY LOVE!
Will set this planet free

He then spoke ok Atlantis,
And what has come to pass
In an alien war of genocide,
He and his friends escaped the blast

* * *
Now these ones are returning,
They see our hearts are burning
The Universe is yearning,
For us to break on through

Well now you see here is my request,
The letter to your heart
Will you join us now,
Let the healing start

First there came THE question,
Then I found THE door
Now I have come through it,
A stronger man for sure

I will ask you the same question,
I can lead you to this door
If you will walk through it,
You will be Wiser than before

Yes now I have this question to put to you
Are you going to resist,
Will you break on through?
Will you break on through?

I am waiting for you...

and think about life today, and by distributing information
you believe is important. At a later stage, perhaps soon
to happen, all our individual actions may help lead to
something quite surprising; a major world change.

~ A little Effort changed the World ~

This was posted recently at an internet board:

< What I want to see are conscious ones tuning in to
each other in an unprecedented way.... Starting right
here, with you dear thinker. >

I replied:

You know, we have the feeling 'it isn't working'? But maybe
it is working. Lots of people we meet each day are trying to
be themselves and are trying to live properly, but maybe we
sometimes don't notice. Everyone needs encouragement.

I can reveal that much of the time, for a long time,
I have so much wished for encouragement or a good
word - from anyone.

When it comes - encouragement - I sing. I start working
harder. At least 300% harder. Solely because someone said
Thanks to me. Or smiled. Or said I did a good job. Or even
said 'That kind of work must be important'. Even if their
words had a partial question mark after them. Because I go
  away thinking to myself: 'Yes. I believe it's important.'

What it comes down to is some real connection with other
people. Instead of just having an empty desert issuing out
of the people we meet. Perhaps they are communicating,
and we didn't notice.

I say daft things to the staff in the local store, just because
I feel to say them. And they (definitely seem to anyway)
respond.

... < Starting right here, with you dear thinker >

I responded with:

I just sent out these thoughts to quite a few people:

"I think it's because we don't encourage others enough;
and many people with high hopes and great intentions fall
by the wayside feeling their efforts were useless ... broken
-hearted and dispirited they (we?) walk off into the desert
and stop trying.

It seems, the key medicine is: if every day we keep putting
out pieces of encouragement we may see a snow-ball start
which will grow, and grow, and grow. Encouragement and
kindness are the oils which make life work."

For those who don't know there will be a Fossil Fools Day on April 1st
all around the world.

Details, resources and Facebook Event (that you can forward to people on
Facebook) follow. Please also see Cassies invite to join the Brisbane
(Australia) Fossil Fools organising team (or just join to keep in touch
with what is going on).
----
Roll up, roll up! The climate circus is in town. Climate change
threatens our very survival, but the fools at the head of the fossil
fuel empire continue to plunder the earth, with governments the willing
court jesters at their side.

They would have us believe that we can escape climate change with
techno-fixes, market mechanisms and offset schemes -- all technocratic
acrobatics that distract us from the truth: the only real solution to
climate change is to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

For over a century the fossil fuel industry has been fooling with our
lives. From extraction to combustion they have poisoned our air,
polluted our water and ruined our climate. On April 1st, 2008, we're
going to turn the tables and show them who the real fools are.

Find a local fossil fool -- the coal-mining clown, the offset
contortionist, the aviator tripping on the high wire, the supermarket
food mile freak show, the oily strong man, or any other fool that
deserves your attention -- and join with thousands around the world in
taking one step closer to dismantling the fossil fuel industry.

On Fossil Fools Day, bring the spirit of carnival and mischief to the
fight for climate justice.

Hi there,

Thought that you may be interested in joining this group....
basically we are planning activities that highlight the coal industry
pushing their agenda even though Climate Change is seen as a serious issue.

So far we have decided to dress up as clowns, jesters and funny
characters and visit various coal industries to indicate how foolish
they are....

If you don't wish to join the elist that is cool but it would be great
if we could have your support for this fun and creative but serious event.

The contact email address was snipped from the bottom of this message
(a problem with Yahoo Groups), can anyone provide contact details
please. I will blog this to the front page of the website.
Suggest leaving a gap between the @ symbol or typing in the word "at".

On a more personal note, i have finally settled into a new address on
Magnetic Island and I have an internet connection. Huge Thank Uz to
Greg for looking after the block (I hear things are looking great)
and to Bill who ensured that we had a means to cook meals whilst
dealing with the very hungry bities and living feral in the mangroves.
Thanks guys :-)

It's nice to be back!

Turning of the tide .
By Matthew,
Warrior-Poet from the Isle of Man, UK

We say we have it tough
But we always have enough
We say we are trying but the children are still dying
We read the news - got to get our daily blues... ohhhh

But we are ready
Ready for tomorrow
We got each other
From me you can borrow
They say you can never change a leopards spots
But they can't see how we rearrange the dots

We are the power in everyone
We are the dance of the moon and the sun
We are the hope that will never hide
We are the turning of the tide

We will look to the stars and we will see the light
WE are powerful because we know what is right
We are ready
Ready for tomorrow
Sinking the ships of jealousy and sorrow

We are the power in everyone
We are the celestial dance of the moon and sun
We are the hope that refuses to hide
We are the turning of the tide

In your eyes a vision
In my heart a fire
We will unite our powers
To expose the Liar

We will not swallow any more excuses
We will not be party to your war on humanity
We have heard all your delusions
We are sated with your profanity...Liar

We are the power in everyone
We are the celestial dance of the moon and sun
We are the hope that refuses to hide
We are the turning of the tide

The Gathering, by Matthew

Last night I had a gathering for all my departed friends
I asked Jim Morrison where he'd been
He just laughed and smiled
Spoke of what he'd seen

He said "I've been to the end of the rainbow"
He said "I've seen supernovae burst"

But before I could ask a question
He said "Let me finish first"

He said "I have something to tell you"
This really is the MASTER KEY
ONLY! ONLY LOVE!
Will set this planet free

He then spoke ok Atlantis
And what has come to pass
In an alien war of genocide
He and his friends escaped the blast

* * *

Now these ones are returning
They see our hearts are burning
The Universe is yearning
For us to break on through

Well now you see here is my request
The letter to your heart
Will you join us now
Let the healing start

First there came THE question
Then I found THE door
Now I have come through it
A stronger man for sure

I will ask you the same question
I can lead you to this door
If you will walk through it
You will be Wiser than before

Yes now I have this question to put to you
Are you going to resist
Will you break on through?
Will you break on through?

I am waiting for you...

I've had a hard disk crash, and although things were backed up,
inevitably the most important, most urgent material wasn't yet. So, I have
no choice but to use the services of a data recovery place.

    In order to do the job, they need to take the drive to pieces. This means
a sterile room, with the operator dressed in a "space suit". I've seen the
photos.

    The DISCOUNT price is $1700, and at that rate, it may take months before
they will fit it in between the full-price-paying customers.

    So, I need money. To raise it quickly, I am temporarily offering my
editing services at a discount. If you have any writing from kids' stories
to Ph. D. theses or articles in learned journals, then query me at
bobrich@... and I'll give you the best price I can. This will be
about 75% of what I'd normally charge for the job.

    :)

Gidday all,

I've put a new post up on our blog -
http://climateactionbrisbane.blogspot.com/2008/02/govt-wont-extend-emissions-cut\
s-wong.html.

       Govt won't extend emissions cuts: Wong
       <http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/21/2169260.htm>

No this is right, despite the Federal Labor Party's commissioned report
on how Australia should set its policies to tackle climate change, Penny
Wong, the minister of Climate Change, has said that the party will *NOT*
adopt one of the key recommendations. That is that Australia needs to
play a lead role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by going beyond
its stated target of a 60 per cent cut by 2050.

Labor expected an economists report from the Economist Garnaut, and
instead they got the truth and it doesn't fit in with their economic
policies. So they've decided to take less interest in what he says. The
prior Australian Federal Government, the Liberals, were heavily
criticised for their role in ignoring climate change. The Labor party
got elected partly on the basis that they are going to do something
about the problem. Labor didn't want to read in the report that to make
the best of a bad situation, Australia needs to drastically change the
way it operates. Garnaut's recommendations are supported.

     /Executive Director of the Australian Conservation Council Don
     Henry,/ says it accepts the need for deep carbon emission cuts.

     "Here's a leading economist saying that we need strong targets, that
     we've got to get cracking and he's saying it's bad for our economy
     if we don't act and good for our economy if we do," he said.

     "I mean this a really important call for the whole of the Australian
     community, business, government and all of us at home, that we've
     got to get cracking on climate change.

     /Greens leader Bob Brown/ says the Government had previously put a
     lot of emphasis on Professor Garnaut's research, but now appears to
     be backing away.

     "Penny Wong has reduced Ross Garnaut to input," he said.

     "There are huge vested interests at play here - the coal industry,
     the aluminium industry, the forest logging industry - and it's up to
     the Rudd Government to put this country ahead of those vested
     interests."

Read the story <http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/21/2169260.htm>.

Read the story on Garnaut's report
<http://climateactionbrisbane.blogspot.com/2008/02/govt-wont-extend-emissions-cu\
ts-wong.html>
(Aust 'most vulnerable' to climate change: Garnaut).

Read the Climate Code Red Report <http://www.climatecodered.net/> on the
state of global warming from David Spratt of Carbon Equity and Philip
Sutton from Greenleap Strategic Institute. Very sober reading. Here's
the overview:

The extensive melting of Arctic sea-ice in the northern summer of 2007
starkly demonstrated that serious climate-change impacts are already
happening, both more rapidly and at lower global temperature increases
than projected. Human activity has already pushed the planet's climate
past several critical "tipping points", including the initiation of
major ice sheet loss.

The loss in summer of all eight million square kilometres of Arctic
sea-ice now seems inevitable, and may occur as early as 2010, a century
ahead of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projections.
There is already enough carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere to
initiate ice sheet disintegration in West Antarctica and Greenland and
to ensure that sea levels will rise metres in coming decades.

The projected speed of change, with temperature increases greater than
0.3°C per decade and the consequent rapid shifting of climatic zones
will, if maintained, likely result in most ecosystems failing to adapt,
causing the extinction of many animal and plant species. The oceans will
become more acidic, endangering much marine life.

The Earth's passage into an era of dangerous climate change accelerates
as each of these tipping points is passed. If this acceleration becomes
too great, humanity will no longer have the power to reverse the
processes we have set in motion.

We stand at a time where we still have the power to make a choice. Only
by dealing with the full scale and urgency of the problem can we create
a realistic path back to a safe-climate world. Targets should be chosen
and actions taken that can actually solve the problem in a timely
manner. A temperature cap of 2--2.4°C, as proposed within the United
Nations framework, would take the planet's climate beyond the
temperature range of the last million years and into catastrophe.

The loss of the Arctic sea-ice unambiguously represents dangerous
climate change. As the tipping point for this event was around two
decades ago when temperatures were about 0.3°C lower than at present, we
propose a long-term precautionary warming cap of 0.5°C and equilibrium
atmospheric greenhouse gas level of not more than 320 parts per million
(ppm) carbon dioxide.

The USA's leading climate scientist, James Hansen, stated recently that
we should set an atmospheric carbon dioxide target that is low enough to
avoid "the point of no return". To achieve this, he says, we must not
only eliminate current greenhouse gas emissions but also remove excess
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and take urgent steps to "cool the
planet".

These scientific imperatives are incompatible with the "realities" of
"politics as usual" and "business as usual". Our conventional mode of
politics is short-term, adversarial and incremental, fearful of deep,
quick change and simply incapable of managing the transition at the
necessary speed. The climate crisis will not respond to incremental
modification of the business-as-usual model.

There is an urgent need to reconceive the issue we face as a
sustainability emergency, that takes us beyond the politics of
failure-inducing compromise. The feasibility of rapid transitions is
well established historically. We now need to "think the unthinkable",
because the sustainability emergency is now not so much a radical idea
as simply an indispensable course of action if we are to return to a
safe-climate planet.
----
Its imperitive that we do ALL WE CAN NOW. Please start by joining a
local climate action group (LCAG) and writing to your local politician.
Please start at http://www.thebigswitch.org.au.

With hope,

Brooke

Hiya everyone :-)

'Imagining the real life on greenhouse earth' is the theme of a conference
to be held at the Australian National University in Canberra on 11th and
12th June, 2008. Cost for the two days is only $200, and there is an
excellent list of presenters. At this stage, I don't have a web link to
point you to, but if you email me privately, I can forward on the PDF
brochure I was sent.

Hi there, climatechangeaction@... .
The next issue of my newsletter 'bobbing around' is available for enjoyment
at http://mudsmith.net/bobbing7-5.html
So much good material was sent to me that I was forced to ignore some,
shorten lots -- and even so I ended up with a file that's almost too large.
And, somehow, this became a very GREEN issue. Even the humor and the poetry
are green.

Dear All

Thank you for your support.

We have raised about $1000 in donations so far.

The Rainbow Chai Tent has decided to go anyway, with crew from Nimbin to
Canberra to cater for the Convergence and the opening of Parliament House.

We are hoping more donations will come in to make up the short fall over the
next week.

Below ia a wonderful letter of support which has made me consider heading down

Subject: FW: Resend: Request from Benny Zable for assistance to Rainbow Chai
Tent Canberra Convergence.
Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2008 10:03:31 -0800

Hello friends,

Here forwarding a request, below, from the
local “chai tent” owner http://www.rainbowchaitent.com/ and also benny zable
performance
artist/activist extraordinary   http://www.bennyzable.com/
  . The Chai
tent and Benny have been a presence on many occasions at the tent embassy in
Canberra ( Just think for a moment about the tent embassy itself. They actually
survived Howard. (just)  And how
bloody Australian to have a daggy tent, campfire and campgrounds in the grounds
of old parliament house for aALL these years)
http://www.aboriginaltentembassy.net/
(This link shows the event in question and also pic
of embassy and  benny
flags at old parliament house ) Read the essay “Tent embassy Icon or
Eyesore”  on embassy site.

  Any way,  the chai
tent provides refreshment and catering and a good place to sit down and is much
appreciated.  Benny provides color
and movement and some media savy.

Hopefully there will be an apology issued
to people of the stolen generations in the first sittings of the new parliament
and hopefully this will usher in a better deal from Australian parliaments to
all Aboriginal peoples in Aus.

  The tent embassy is rustling up as many
people as it can to mark the occasion and also show they are still here and
watching to see what will happen.

Due to the wedge politics so beloved of
Howard the tent embassy had recently become even more controversial in and
outside of ‘aboriginal policits” Some may
be embarrassed by it - some of us may even be a bit embarrassed by the chai tent
and benny!! But it seems to me that is all to
the good A healthy society needs to
be able to hear messages from the margins for sooner or later what is on the
margins comes to centre stage. If
as a society we could listen a little earlier we could deal with things better
on
a social/environmental/political level.
Not hearing the voices of the margin dwellers; be they the disposed, the
activists, the artists and poets or the mystics is like waiting to be slapped
in the face by a
dead fish instead of dealing with it when you get the first wiff
from the fridge when there has been a power failure. Well there is not only
some fish in
there; There is a bloody big pile of prawn shells left over from the huge
consumer party of the past decades.
And many social and environmental issues need to be attended to.

When you a broke a few bob goes a long
way. Read all the way down they
need $6 to $10K in all.  That’s
what it costs to get there and run the service. This means on many other
occasions 2 blokes
with the arse out of there pants have provided this
kind of money to do this servive. Amazing. Now you
know why they don’t have much financial back up –they give it all
away!

Chin up

Be well and happy and pass this on.

john

           Dear
All

I am resending this request as Michael would like to go with Chai Tent to the
Aboriginal Tent Embassy Gathering over next week end for the opening of
Parliament House, but just does not have the finances to go.

He is not on the dole and is broke from cancellations of consecutive rained out
Channon Markets.

Please put into his account anything you can.

As he stated he will return money if he cannot go.

If he goes I will go with flags to promote those environmental causes which I
believe you would like us to exhibit on the tent professionally.

This is also a test to see if people really want us there.

Words are not enough after countless thefts and abuse at festivals etc.

Between us, we are pretty broke, and it is a
risky and expensive journey.

There are people who want us there to do the catering and staging for the
media.

    Help Send The Rainbow Chai Tent

                       To
Canberra

            Urgent Request for Financial
Assistance

         2 February 2008

Dear
friends

The
chai tent is being asked to do the catering and entertainment ,for the National
Aboriginal
Convergence, at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy and Old
Parlaiment House form the 8th to the 14th of february.

Catering
for 500 - 1000 people possibly more.

It
provides a valued meeting space that has been much appreciated in the past.

It
is of the utmost Importance that the chai tent is able to offer a
high level of serves in both the catering and entertainment, as both
these things are vital for the aboriginal tent embassy and National convergence
to function.

With people coming
from all over the country , some coming to the
embassy possibly for the first time, they need to be
  made welcome and to feel at home. In between workshops and meetings food
and light entertainment will be an integral part of people forming
dialogue between each other and hopefully the government.

We
need to raise between 6,000 to 10,000 dollars by
this Monday if we are going to have any chance of going.

I
know this is a lot and very short notices .We have been supporting the
embassy for the last 3 years, taking the

Chai tent
down to Sovereignty Day on the 26 of January a return trip of about
2,500 kms we where unable to attend this year,
due mainly to the fact I have no money left,I have been funding this
my self at considerable cost. And as I,am unemployed
and without benefits I can on longer continuo without support
.

I
Will also have to miss the channon market, my only income at the moment.

In
the past we have sold food and drinks by donation as not all those attending
have enough money .

  We will continuo to
do this as it is more important that people are together.

The
money will  be spent on.

Food

Fuel
and accommodation there and back,

Gas

Hire
of marquees, tables and chairs ,trestles tables, Mobil cool
room, barbecue possibly a flat bed truck if the convergence
can't find one.

And
help with the on going cost of running the Chai Tent.

If
you can help, please deposit funds directly into my account and please send me
an email letting me know how much you deposited and your contact details to
michael@...

If
we don't reach 3,000 dollars
by Monday night we won;t be going and I will return your
money,

  I
am looking for donations of 100 dollars and up and are
hopeing that someone out there can put in a few thousand dollars in , as
in the scheme of things it not that much.

Please forward this
email to any one you feel maybe able to assist - now or in the future.
