I have seen people make a makeshift rudderbox out of two plates of aluminium
(or stainless steel), packed out with some plywood or some plastic. You can
easily make an attachment for the top for housing the tiller. You can also
set up blocks quite easily on the side for easily raising and lowering your
rudder. If all else fails, there are a number of Naval Cadet units around
that have spare parts and could be willing to sell one to you (at one point
they were talking about moving to a different class of boat). You can find
them in the White pages.
