Frontonasal Dysplasia, or FND, is a craniofacial condition that affects the way the eyes and nose grow together. It occurs in the first few weeks of pregnancy and can be the result of a genetic condition , as part of a syndrome such as Craniofrontonasal Dysplasia or Goldenhars or a chance event on it's own. It is characterised by wide eyes, broad nasal root, and facial clefting, open or closed, of some kind. Correction usually involves surgery, depending on the severity, but is not always needed. FND does not usually affect mental ability. It is generally the appearance that is affected, therefore families of affected people tend to become private and sensitive to what others may think of them, or their affected child, often feeling a sense of isolation. Let me tell you that our children are special, they are unique, and they are a blessing. They are children who have extra special personalities, and are well loved in their families and communities.
