QUENCH YOUR OWN SPIRITUAL HUNGER-
Many of the commercials on television are for all kinds of food and drink.
The pictures presented are intended to make you hungry for a piece of pizza or a cheeseburger.
Then we have the "Health Watch" portion of the news giving us advice about what we are to eat. We are encouraged to satisfy your physical hunger following certain guideines to acquire or maintain a healthy body.
What about our spiritual hunger? Spirtual hunger is as real as physical hunger. What are the guidelines for being spiritually healthy?
"Man and Woman shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that porceedeth out of the mouth of God," say Matthew 4:4.
Obviously, we need some physical food, but we are not to live on that alone.
Just as we can't really know what food is inside the can without looking and reading the label to find out what the company says about its product, we can't really know God without going to God's word to find out what God says about God and God's will.
We can't know God without going to God's word. That's where we can go for guidance and direction, not just the "Health Watch."
Matthew 5:6 reads, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."
The word "filled" means as filled as you want to be- satisfied. We are filled spiritually in proportion to our hunger.
Are we ready to receive all that has been prepared for us, or do we just want a "snack?"
We make that decision.
The world has plenty of snacks to offer, but our direction from God's word is "Be not conformed to this world."
The rest of the verse tells us what to do instead of letting the world mold us: "But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
We renew our minds to God's word and what it says about us.
We find out God's will for us by seeking out God's word and feeding on it.
The prophet Jeremiah was hungry for God's word: "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts."
(And we have the New Testament now, more than what was available to Jeremiah.)
Jeremiah took in the word as hus sustenance.
This figure of speech indicates how much he desired to know God. Our spiritual hunger is satisfied when we come to God's word.
We can "eat" the word like Jeremiah did. We feed on God's word and put it on our mind and let it live in our heart.
Eat that cheeseburger if you want to, but don't forget the spiritural food. (And it won't clog your arteries!) Being on a renewed mind diet
will satisfy more!
CHERYL J. HITE and her husband Charlie, run a Christian Research and Fellowship- nondenominational, weekly home Bible Fellowship. (Everything here in parentheses are additions by "Cheyenne Cin" - and here's another one: Cheryl and many other women called by God to lead run home Bible studies alongside their Christian husbands are probably not in today's 'conventional' "Christian" churches, due to sexism. However, Priscilla and her husband Aquila ran home or tent Bible studies, I think, and the male writers even put her name first! --"Cheyenne Cin" - P.S. These disciples, prophets and prophetesses, male and female were under the God-called tutelage* of a WOMAN! Go figure, today's 'churches'!)
