Subject: Common Sense: Get Real, Mr. Rael

January 6, 2009

Get Real, Mr. Rael

Political ads are not much different from normal, commercial ads. Effective advertisements usually make it pretty clear what the hoped-for outcome is.

Buy a widget? Patronize a business? In politics, it’s “Vote for X”… or A, B, or C.

Last political season, in New Mexico’s Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia counties, ads ballyhooed a Rio Metro expansion project. They very clearly concluded by telling voters to “Make a Difference on November 4th,” and offering up a certain website that also promoted voting for the tax increase to expand the transit system.

So why did Lawrence Rael of the political entity responsible for Rio Metro deny the obvious? “We’re not saying ‘vote for the tax’ as an advocacy committee would do,” he explained. “We’re just simply saying, ‘Look, this issue is on the ballot…Here’s what it’s about.’”

Oh, get real, Mr. Rael.

The reason for his reticence? Governments in a republic aren’t supposed to influence voters but be influenced by voters. That’s the point of an election, where our tax dollars ought not be on either side.

Paul Gessing, of the Rio Grande Foundation, wrote in the Albuquerque Journal, “Having advocates for these proposals working on the taxpayer dime obviously tilts the advantage in the direction of higher taxes. But giving the pro-tax side the additional advantage of a significant advertising budget is simply too much, and is truly unfair.”

No wonder government keeps growing, eh?

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

Traditional Marriage Prevails On Election Day
(December 2008)

Feature Story - December, 2008

http://uninews.com/uni/pubsframe.html

Voters in California, Florida and Arizona approved constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage on Nov. 4th.

While traditional marriage advocates hailed the approval of the "gay" marriage bans in the three states, that was tempered by the legalization of same-sex marriage in Connecticut just eight days later.

In California, 52 percent of voters favored Proposition 8. Sixty-two percent of Florida voters approved Amendment Two, while in Arizona, Proposition 102 was passed by 56 percent of the voters.

A total of 30 states now ban same-sex marriage in their state constitutions.

Connecticut last month joined Massachusetts in legalizing "gay marriage". Same-sex marriage had been allowed in California earlier this year, under a State Supreme Court ruling. However, Californians' approval of Prop 8 negated that ruling just six months later.

The marriage status of 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who married in California will likely be decided by the courts. For now, they remain legal. Also, a handful of lawsuits challenging the legality of Prop 8 were filed in the wake of its passage. The prevailing issue is whether a state constitutional ban on same-sex marriage can go before voters, or must it go to the legislature first?

The Alliance Defense Fund said the success of the gay marriage bans in the three states "demonstrates that voters want to preserve marriage as the union of one man and one woman."

ADF Senior Legal Counsel, Brian Raum, continued, "These results provide even more evidence that the simple and timeless value of marriage unites people of all ethnic, religious, and political backgrounds.

The principles of marriage transcend the personalities of the campaign. Voters do not want the will of the people thwarted by courts or legislatures that listen more to political special interests than they do to them. ADF will continue its work to defend marriage in all 50 states," Raum said.

Family Research Council President, Tony Perkins, said on the issue of same-sex marriage, "democracy has spoken."

"From every corner of California, Florida and Arizona, voters proved that marriage crosses demographic lines–even party lines, in some cases. The attachment to marriage and its meaning is deeply rooted in the African-American, Latino, Asian and white communities," Perkins said.

Dr. Janice Crouse, director and senior fellow of Concerned Women for America's Beverly LaHaye Institute, said, "These victories for traditional marriage resulted from heroic efforts by pro-marriage leaders across the nation. Their efforts were, in many respects, similar to David going up against Goliath. The homosexual activists launched unprecedented public relations efforts, and they were supported by the media, who gave them positive coverage. In California, voters reversed the decision of their State Supreme Court decision last May to make same-sex ‘marriage' legal in California. Arizona came back to support marriage after falling short in a previous effort two years ago. All of these efforts in support of same-sex ‘marriage' were nothing, though, when they were up against the prayers of thousands of Christians across America who fasted and prayed that our nation would protect marriage as the foundation for the family. These believers recognize that married couples who form strong families and nurture children in solid values are a bulwark against those forces that undermine American culture.

The decisions in Florida, Arizona and California are affirmations of the sacred nature of marriage and indicate wide public support for conservative values across the board. These decisions also reflect the continued influence of the ‘value voters,'" Crouse said.

Institute on Religion and Democracy President, James Tonkowich, commented, "We see once again, when traditional marriage is put to the people, they will support traditional marriage. Americans across this nation are taking their voice to the ballot box to rein-in activist judges whose actions have undercut democracy, the will of the people, and marriage, our most basic social institution. This is not a ‘red state' or ‘blue state' issue. The three states were in different parts of the country and went for different candidates by widely-varying margins."

The ballot initiative with the biggest implications was California, where "gay marriage" had been legal for six months.

A major proponent of Prop 8 was Randy Thomasson, president of the California-based Campaign for Children and Families.

"Marriage licenses can now only go to whom they were originally intended–a man and a woman, a bride and a groom. The people of California have successfully overruled the judges and politicians, and restored marriage licenses to a man and a woman. Now the false marriages done this summer must be declared null and void. California law now says, the only valid or recognized marriage ‘is' between a man and a woman, ‘regardless of when or where peformed.' It is time for all Californians to respect the new marriage law, which has restored an age-old institution, whether they voted for or against Prop 8," Thomasson stated.

Among those who are challenging Prop 8's passage is the American Civil Liberties Union.

ACLU staff attorney, Elizabeth Gill, said, "A major purpose of the constitution is to protect minorities from majorities. Because changing that principle is a fundamental change to the organizing principles of the constitution itself, only the legislature can initiate such revisions to the constitution."

Likewise, Jenny Pizer, a staff lawyer with Lambda Legal, noted, "If the voters approved an initiative that took the right to free speech away from women, but not from men, everyone would agree that such a measure conflicts with the basic ideals of equality enshrined in our constitution. Proposition 8 suffers from the same flaw–it removes a protected constitutional right–here, the right to marry–not from all Californians, but just from one group of us. That's too big a change in the principles of our constitution to be made just by a bare majority of voters."

Joe Solomonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said, "The continuing movement in public opinion underscores that it is only a matter of time before we undo this loss and add more states to the march for marriage equality. This is not over. In California, our legal rights have been lost, but our human rights endure, and we will continue to fight for them."

Since Proposition 8's passage, there have been a series of protests against churches, small businesses and individual supporters of traditional marriage in California and nearby states, in addition to incidents of vandalism, boycotts of some merchants and possibly related mailings of envelopes filled with white powder, primarily targeting the Mormon Church.

Ron Prentice, chairman of ProtectMarriage.com, said, "Tragically, some opponents of Prop 8, who claim to cherish tolerance and civil rights, are unabashedly trampling on the rights of others. No matter your opinion on Proposition 8, we should all agree that it is wrong to intimidate and harass churches, businesses and individuals for participating in the "democratic process". We call on our government leaders to urge all citizens to respect the rights of everyone to express their views on marriage without fear of reprisal and recrimination."

Traditional Values Coalition Chairman, the Rev. Louis Sheldon, stated, "Christians didn't storm the offices of PG&E or Apple for their role in donating thousands of dollars to defeat Proposition 8. We can't forget that a ballot measure isn't a partisan issue. Churches may be involved in supporting issues that are related to their doctrines–especially the sacrament of marriage."

Church members have a right to speak, they have a right to vote -- and to do so without this kind of reaction and without this kind of intimidation," Otterson stated.

The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled 4-to-3 on October 10th that "gay couples" have the right to marry, rather than accept a civil union law which had been in place since 2005, designed to give them the same rights as wedded couples.

However, Connecticut voters subsequently rejected the idea of a constitutional convention to amend the state's constitution on the November ballot.

Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, a group which opposes gay marriage, said, "Unlike California, we did not have a remedy. It must be overturned with patience, determination and fortitude."

Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family, reflected on the gay marriage initiatives in California, Florida and Arizona.

"Why were these amendments necessary," given that "the vast majority of states already had statutes defining marriage in the traditional way?"

"The answer is, as it has always been, the danger posed by arrogant judges who see themselves as above the law–indeed, creators of the law. It took only four judges in Massachusetts, four in California and four in Connecticut to brush aside state marriage statues by ‘discovering' a new constitutional ‘right' to same-sex ‘marriage' hidden between the lines of their state constitutions. Judges can trump statutes, but constitutional amendments trump judges. When judges attempt to rewrite constitutions, they cross the line that separates the judicial function from the Legislative function, and violate their oaths of office in the process," Hausknecht said.

BEST AND WORST OF 2008

With 2008 just concluded, today's column will be my analysis of the best and worst of the year just spent. First, the best: my wife, Connie, and our family. As the Constitution Party candidate for President, I logged more than 30,000 miles and visited more than 30 states. I traveled most of those miles alone--as costs prohibited my wife from traveling with me--and most flights were flown in the coach cabin. In fact, my wife and I were apart more last year than the previous 34 years of married life combined. Needless to say, I am not cut out to be a traveling salesman. The time away from home was extremely difficult.

I am grateful to God for giving me the outstanding family I have. Connie is amazing! And our three grown children (Sarah, Chris, and Tim) and their spouses (Allan, Jana, and Jennifer) are absolutely the greatest. Each one of them is a champion-patriot in his or her own right. They love God; they love freedom; they love their parents and each other; they are independent thinkers and courageous Christians. We are as close a family as one will ever find. They are my best and closest friends.

Those faithful members of Crossroad Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida who prayed for me, stood by me, and supported me during a grueling campaign certainly make it to my "best" list for 2008. When I first announced the invitation and opportunity that had been afforded me to become an Independent candidate for President to my church family, several families walked out the back door. Some of these folks were "friends" for many years. Fortunately, however, the vast majority of my church family remained steadfast and unmovable. Try to imagine a church anywhere else in America that would stand by and support a pastor, as he takes a "sabbatical" to run for President. Most churches today will not even tolerate a pastor who dares to take a stand for anything controversial. The faithful stalwarts at Crossroad Church make my "best" list.

Actually, there were many highlights of 2008. The many friends and supporters I met around the country have to make my "best" list, for sure. The many LDS folks who supported me in Utah and surrounding states were a real highlight. People such as Frank Fluckiger, Scott Bradley and Matt Moody, to name a few.

The great folks who hosted Connie and I in Spokane, Washington, (yes, Connie was able to make this trip with me) make it to my "best" list. I am talking about Bob Peck and his entire team. They were terrific.

The guys out in California, who helped provide the VIP tour of America's busiest immigration port near San Diego for me, also make my "best" list for 2008. In addition to the legal border crossing at San Ysidro, they also took me out into the California desert in 110-degree heat to take a firsthand look at the real border. However bad you may think our illegal immigration problem is, it is ten times worse than that. I was able to meet with Border Patrol agents and Border Patrol Auxiliary personnel, as well. It was a real education. Thanks are especially due to retired Air Force Master Sergeant (and retired Deputy Sheriff) Larry Breazeale.

Perhaps the most fascinating man I got to know last year was retired Air Force Brigadier General Charles Jones. What an amazing man! We have become fast friends. Getting to know the general was one of the "best" events of 2008, for sure.

From an organizational perspective, Thom Holmes, out there in Okalahoma, was probably the most indispensable and valuable asset to my campaign last year. He kept my travel and hotel itinerary intact for me. He was on top of every detail. I could not have done it without him. Of course, Darrell Castle was a terrific running mate and a first class gentleman. Joe Sanger in Michigan, and Lowell and Bethany Patterson in New Jersey were also able and indispensable associates.

Lou Dobbs makes my "best" list for 2008, as well. He was the one major television talk show host who was willing to have me as a guest on his program. It is not surprising that Lou Dobbs was about the only notable television talk show host during 2008 who was willing to confront the truth regarding a host of issues: from the North American Union, to illegal immigration, to Ramos and Compean, to the criminal international bankers. Thanks, Lou.

Close to the top of my "best" list is Congressman Ron Paul. What a terrific champion for freedom and constitutional government he is! I was able to get to know Ron quite well during the campaign, and was both humbled and honored when he publicly endorsed my candidacy. Thank you, Ron. You are the best man we have on Capitol Hill.

South Carolina senatorial candidate, Bob Conley, also makes my "best" list of 2008. Here was a guy who was willing to take on the neocon senator, Lindsey Graham. Had he had the support of the so-called conservative Christians, he would have won. But most conservative Christians are so myopic and uninformed today that they cannot think outside the box. And because Bob ran as a Democrat, they would not support him. What a shame! Bob was as solid a constitutionalist patriot as one will ever find. You did us all proud, Bob.

In the print media, Bob Dill, who publishes the Times Examiner in Greenville, South Carolina, makes it to my "best" list, as well. Bob represents the shrinking number of courageous publishers who know what's going on and are not afraid to print the truth.

Speaking of South Carolina, Dorchester County Sheriff Ray Nash also makes it to my "best" list for 2008. I first met Ray on the campaign trail in the Palmetto State and then invited him to be our guest speaker for our God and Country Day on Election Sunday, November 4. He brought a magnificent address. I was so impressed with his presentation that we made copies and sent them to every elected official in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in Florida. You can view Sheriff Nash's video presentation.

The opportunity I had to speak at the 50th Anniversary of the John Birch Society in Appleton, Wisconsin also makes my "best" list for 2008. John McManus and Art Thompson were gracious hosts and have become good friends. The Birch Society is one of the bright spots in America today. No organization has been more unduly criticized as the John Birch Society. And yet, their commitment to liberty and constitutional government has never waned. My hat is off to them.

The New American magazine is still the finest news publication in America. Year in and year out, TNA is the best.

Speaking at the Indianapolis Baptist Temple (IBT) in Indianapolis, Indiana also needs to be included in my "best" list of 2008. It was a pleasure to be with Dr. Greg Dixon, his son, Pastor Greg Dixon, and Dr. Don Boys again. The IBT has gone through more tribulation than most churches can possibly imagine (at least those in America), and they are still going strong. What a great congregation of dedicated and determined believers! They remind me of courageous Christians from yesteryear. I was honored to speak before them.

Internet publishers such as Paul Walter make my "best" list, too. Paul publishes News With Views. He and people such as Jim Rudd at Covenant News have carried my columns for years. These are men who also know what's going on and are not afraid to print the truth. Thanks, guys.

Other web sites that were especially beneficial to patriots in 2008 were World Net Daily, VDARE, Freedom's Phoenix, Renew America, and Gary Shumway's Red Pills. In Pensacola, my friend, Mike West, at Gulf1, was the man who first got me thinking about publishing a column such as this. Thanks for the idea, Mike.

Without these (and other) great Internet news sites, the American people, for the most part, would not have convenient access to the truth. Most of the major media and major "conservative" radio talk shows today are little more than lackeys for New World Order Republicans, and are therefore worthless to the cause of liberty.

In addition to the mainstream media, and worthless talk show hosts such as Sean Hannity, I must include the majority of so-called leaders within the Religious Right as making my "worst" list for 2008. I include James Dobson, Pat Robertson, and Tony Perkins on this list.

For all intents and purposes, the Religious Right has become nothing more than a gaggle of glorified hacks for the Republican Party. They have sacrificed virtually every principle worth defending. For the sake of sitting at the king's table, or not losing financial support from brain-dead contributors, these men have sold the cause of freedom and constitutional government down the river. Their mindless support for John McCain was inexcusable and embarrassing! In so doing, they have lost all credibility.

Also making my "worst" list in 2008 are the many pastors and church members around the country who continued to support one of the worst Presidents in American history: George W. Bush. This man has taken America to the precipice of financial ruin; he has created the foundation for a police state; he has trampled the Constitution and Bill of Rights like no President since Abraham Lincoln; he has used our bravest and best for his sinister plans of interventionist adventurism; he has set the wheels of global government and national socialism in motion, as has no other President (I'm sure Barack Obama will do more than his share to augment socialism in the United States, but remember, it is George W. Bush that has laid the foundation for the acceptance of national socialism). I'm not sure that America will ever truly recover from his Presidency. Yet, a majority of conservative pastors and church members continue to idolize George Bush. What an embarrassment!

Both the democrat and republican Parties make my "worst" list for 2008. In one year, both major parties nominated two men, neither of whom was constitutionally qualified to be president of the United States. Now, that's quite a feat! (However, one party did add Sarah Pailin as vice presidential contender, surely there have to be some positive points there.-"Cheyenne Cin")

The Council on Foreign Relations, international bankers, and other global elitists also make my "worst" list for 2008. When will the people of America awaken to the reality that our worst enemies are not "liberals" and "leftists," as much as they are the global elitists who control the Federal Reserve and other internationalist entities that are committed to dismantling America's independence and sovereignty?

Notable deaths that contributed to the down side of 2008 include veteran radio broadcaster George Putnam. I wrote a column eulogizing George shortly after his death in September.

Other folks I hated to see leave us were Bob Jeter, cornerback from the championship teams of the 1960s Green Bay Packers; Ivan Dixon, from the old Hogan's Heroes TV sitcom; famed actor and NRA president Charlton Heston; Eddy Arnold, the great country-western singer; Dick Martin, from the old Rowan and Martin TV comedy show; the hilarious Harvey Korman; the great freedom fighter, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn; the never-equaled voice of "In a world" announcer, Don LaFontaine; "Cool Hand Luke" Paul Newman; and actor Van Johnson, who starred in over 100 movies, and I don't think I ever saw a bad one.  (NO GOOD OR NOTEWORTHY WOMEN DIED, apparently! -"Cheyenne Cin")

Finally, my beloved Green Bay Packers make my "worst" list for 2008 for shoving Brett Favre out the door for what was certainly his last NFL season. As a result, the Pack went from a 13-3 playoff team to a 6-10 stay-home-and-watch team. Favre should have finished his hall of fame career in Green Bay. That he didn't is a shame.

There you have it: my best and worst of 2008. I trust that all of us will truly have a Happy New Year!

THE GLOBAL POVERTY ACT:

REDISTRIBUTING AMERICA'S WEALTH

Are Americans responsible for the welfare of everyone in the world? "Obama and Biden think so!" claim many US conservatives. According to conservative activists, there is a clandestine senate bill that awaits signing by President Barack Obama once he's sitting in the Oval Office.

This legislation requires the President of the United States "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

"While Champagne glasses clink and bubbly is flowing, a secret Bill is hiding in the background ready to spring to life. The Obama/Biden honeymoon will be the prefect time to launch this lurking monster. They are hoping not a soul will notice," said conservative strategist Michael Baker.

Senate Bill 2433 is said to be so devastating, that it will strip America of all its sovereignty and dignity.

Fight Global Poverty: Obama and Biden will embrace the
Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to achieve that goal. This will help the world’s weakest states build healthy and educated communities, reduce poverty, develop markets, and generate wealth.

"This [bill] is custom made for the liberal bleeding-heart crowd [who] will seize our government and clutch the very throats of 'we the people'." claim members of the Minuteman Project.

"When I read [this] document I couldn't believe my eyes! At first I wanted to cut loose of my normal name calling and profanity, but as I read what was already in the Senate and edging closer to becoming law I couldn't help but to start to weep for our beloved nation," said Minuteman Steve Susser.

"The future of our nation is very much in peril. Senate Bill 2433 authored by Obama and Biden is nothing less than a stripping of the accumulated wealth of America," claims Susser.

It appears the Senate version is being pushed not only by Biden and Obama, a member of the committee, but Lugar, the ranking Republican member. Lugar has worked with Obama in the past to promote more foreign aid for Russia, supposedly to stem nuclear proliferation, and has become Obama's mentor. Like Biden, Lugar is a globalist. They have both promoted passage of the U.N.'s Law of the Sea Treaty, for example.

Through trickery, and the false notion of ill placed morality and tainted ethical responsibility, the new regime will create an International Welfare System. A Frankenstein system that will be responsible for: feeding, providing water, shelter, education, child support, major medical coverage and any and all other necessary elements to sustain the environment upon which the recipient may need, according to Baker.

"In essence, the American people will be made responsible for over 2.6 Billion people across the world," he said.

"From Mexico to Madrid, From China to Columbia, the United States government is on the verge of launching a colossal international welfare program of which there's never been a rival!"

"You, your family, your neighbors, the people in your city, your state and every tax paying citizen is going to get screwed. There is no nice way to say it." said Minuteman Steve.

As if this wasn't bad enough, analysts discovered that Senate Bill 2344 is a joint operational component of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. This means the United States will be acting as a de facto agent of the u.n., fulfilling the directives of the united nations.

"This is beyond the designed billions upon billions of dollars already given and could very well reach into absolute control of third world countries! They will sell their sovereignty to America, the democracy and hypocrisy capital of the world. This is nothing less than disgusting and nauseating," said economist Gerhard Okhuysen.

"Once again America has found a way to create a slave class! Not only will the citizens of third world countries become slaves as we acquire their nation, but also the U.S. Taxpayer will be enslaved as we struggle to shoulder the world's burdens!" said Okhuysen, a Chartered Financial Analyst.

"Basically, the American taxpayer will be expected to feed, water, educate, give child support, housing, medical care while the third world country surrenders their governmental control to the US," he added.

The Meltdown of Public Health and Personal Freedom

FDA Celebrates Hundred Years of Pretense

As I mentioned above, zinc and vitamin D are essential for his insulin system to work well. He also needs to rest his pancreas between meals so that he can build up insulin to release correctly when he eats. Thus, snacking is out of the question as are meals that are too large. He is best eating four meals spaced four hours apart.

STEVE JOBS' WASTING-AWAY HEALTH PROBLEM

By Byron J. Richards, CCN

NewsWithViews.com

Yesterday Steve Jobs floated a description of his personal health problems into the public; calling them “a hormone imbalance that has been ‘robbing’ me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis. The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment.” His press release describing his health issue was timed to quell market concern and Apple’s stock price, as Jobs failed to appear today to deliver his almost cult-like yearly Macworld keynote speech.

In response to his announcement Apple stock rose, as investors were apparently encouraged by the near-meaningless description of Jobs’ very serious health condition. There are two headline stories here. One is about Steve Jobs’ health, which he has now held out for public discussion and holds many important lessons for others struggling to maintain weight in the face of some type of health problem. The other is about risk and investing.

Wall Street, in the past year, has shot itself in both feet while wiping out over 30% of the investment wealth in the stock market. In no small part this was due to the greed-driven use of computerized risk models that were unethically and unintelligently applied – with the net result of wiping out hundreds of billions in wealth – while putting taxpayers on the hook to keep these reckless companies in business. Starting 2009 with a jaundiced eye; no investor is interested in being further snookered on the subject of risk.

When one man is the brand his personal health takes on significant importance. On a personal basis, his health problems are and should be protected by privacy laws. However, once he starts making announcements about his health that are designed to quell investor concern, then he is forsaking privacy rights to build investor confidence and in my opinion should make his health records public.

Portraying his problems as a hormone imbalance and a nutritional problem, compared to having a recurrence of his pancreatic cancer, has the net result of lessening investor concern about the risk in an Apple stock investment. However, such a description of his health problems is vague and potentially misleading, as it downplays their severity.

Body-Wasting Health Problems

It may be somewhat difficult to understand, considering the ever expanding waistlines of most Americans, that inappropriate weight loss is a far more serious health problem than obesity. This problem is typically triggered by an intense level of stress such as divorce, loss of a loved one, illness, accident, or injury. During the intense period of such a stressor inflammation is out of control, appetite is suppressed, and weight loss can get out of hand. For many people, as the acute nature of the stress subsides, their body bounces back and they can then regain their weight and recover. The common cause of all body wasting problems is excessive inflammation.

This problem can also be self-inflicted, as with anorexics who don’t eat enough food. What starts out as a desire to be thin gets locked in place as an inflammatory problem – setting the stage for chronic body wasting. Also, as any serious cancer progresses this body-wasting malnutrition sets in and is often the cause of death.

Steve Jobs problems are far from simple and by no means easy to fix. In 2004 he was successfully treated for an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor, a slow-growing form of pancreatic cancer. While his treatment was considered successful from the point of view of surgically removing the tumor, his pancreas became a war zone. Even a successful treatment causes bridges and building to be knocked down, in this case affecting cells in his pancreas that produce the hormones insulin and glucagon, key regulators of his nutritional status.

Over the last year he has lost considerable weight. Considering his health history, this is not good news at all. It means his body is locked in an inflammatory pattern of unknown cause, but likely the result of his pancreatic problems. When a person gets stuck in an inflammatory-driven body wasting trend, the longer they are in it the more serious the nature of the problem. It is like a forest fire burning out of control. During this process proteins are broken down and lost, as protein-containing body structures are “burned.” This not only includes the loss of muscle and bone, but eventually the loss of structural integrity of key body organs such as the heart, kidneys, pancreas, and liver. A year of inappropriate weight loss is like 15 years of aging.

Unlike getting over the inflammatory trauma of a bad divorce in a period of months, the nature of Jobs’ health problems is harder to define. The source of the problem is not clear. Is it actually the return of his cancer? Is it a consequence of his previous treatment? Is it another problem altogether? Answering these questions may help doctors settle on the appropriate medical treatment, but this is clearly a situation where Jobs would benefit from a comprehensive nutritional program to support whatever medical treatment is appropriate.

Here are the key factors that he can nutritionally improve:
1) Overall protein status.
2) His inflammatory condition and cortisol levels.
3) A low leptin, de-energized condition.
4) A thyroid system on the brink of conking out.
5) Disturbed insulin function.
6) Growth hormone and appetite issues.
7) Any other digestive problems.

These issues apply to any person stuck in an inappropriate trend of weight loss – so it is worth taking some time to explain how to fix them.

Overall Protein Status

If one wishes to view Jobs’ problem as a simple nutritional issue, then the explanation is that he has negative nitrogen balance. This means that he does not have enough dietary protein (which contains nitrogen) to sustain the structure of his body, thus he is in a trend of body wasting. The simple solution is to increase protein intake to at least three-fourths of his ideal weight in grams of protein per day – especially glutamine and the branch chain amino acids. If he is very lucky, then that would work – and it would be a simple solution.

Since Jobs has questionable ability to digest and absorb protein, he needs some of his protein intake in easier to use supplemental forms. I would suggest up to 10 grams of glutamine per day, along with another 60-70 grams of high quality whey protein that is rich in branch chain amino acids. Glutamine is the single most important amino acid to protect against body tissue break down. Branch chain amino acids are needed to fuel insulin signaling and muscle metabolism once basic nitrogen balance has been obtained. In other words, once his liver gets enough protein to meet nitrogen balance, then it is vital that he has a surplus of proteins that are metabolized in muscle so as to fuel muscle regeneration, which is the value of the branch chain amino acids.

While he needs to eat this much protein regardless of whatever else he does, it is quite likely that he will need to do more in order to get anywhere. That is because protein is a structural raw material like 2 x 4s and plywood, not the carpenter. He needs to stop the inflammatory demo crew that has gone wild while getting his remodeling crew into action – in addition to increasing protein intake. Otherwise, his inflammatory forest fire will keep burning down his protein-containing trees.

Inflammation and Cortisol Levels

Body wasting is always a problem of excess inflammation. Your adrenal glands make higher amounts of cortisol to deal with any increase in inflammatory stress, as a defense mechanism to cool off the inflammation. Cortisol is like oil in a car engine – it is needed to keep it running with less friction. Since Mr. Jobs is overheating, excess cortisol is constantly produced unless his adrenal glands run out of gas, at which point cortisol drops and even more serious problems set in (like driving a car with no oil).

The problem with cortisol being released in high amounts is that cortisol is actually a catabolic hormone that, in excess, actually helps fuel the break down of his body proteins. The best way to stop this problem is to drastically increase anti-inflammatory nutrients, which helps address the actual source of the problem.

Nutrients that reduce inflammation while at the same time assisting tissue recovery are the key to turning this problem around. Top choices include grape seed extract, fish oil, bromelain, papain, curcumin, quercetin, silymarin, and r-alpha lipoic acid. These nutrients not only help his physical structure they directly help turn down the inflammatory gene signaling, which then enables cortisol production to diminish.

A Low Leptin, De-energized Condition

Unlike many Americans with expanding waistlines and high levels of leptin (leptin resistance), Jobs has low leptin. Leptin is made in body fat and his body fat levels have been reduced to dangerously low levels. Leptin is needed so that his energetic systems can come on. Leptin is also a primary anti-inflammatory nutrient, especially in the brain. And he needs normal leptin levels to support proper insulin signaling in his struggling pancreas.

Two key nutrients that support both leptin status and insulin function are zinc and vitamin D. Zinc is also needed to help him make his own pancreatic digestive enzymes. He’ll need 75 mg to 100 mg of zinc per day, in the form of zinc picolinate and/or zinc citrate (the two biologically active forms of zinc). He will need at least 2000 IU of vitamin D per day, and possibly more if a blood test shows him lacking.

It is vital that he prop up his failing leptin system or he will have no energy to function, no creative drive, and feel like he has worked 12 hours a day when he has only worked 10 minutes. Maybe that’s the real reason he didn’t want to give the keynote at Macworld – he didn’t have the energy to make anything that excited him this year.

A Thyroid System on the Brink of Conking Out

Inflammatory problems are a major jolt to healthy thyroid function. T3 is the biologically active form of thyroid hormone. Reverse T3 is the brakes that slow down thyroid function. A thyroid lab test that measures free T3 is actually a score of both active T3 and reverse T3. Ongoing inflammation causes reverse T3 levels to rise. Steve Jobs is in a situation where he really needs to know his actual reverse T3 score – as it will directly predict the likelihood of any recovery. As reverse T3 elevates one’s ability to recover dwindles.

He can also use nutrition to help make thyroid hormone as well as to activate it. By boosting his own T3 levels, reverse T3 will lesson. Nutrients such as iodine, selenium, and manganese can be key to maintaining thyroid status in the face of inflammatory stress.

Insulin and Growth Hormone

The bottom line for Jobs is that he must get thyroid hormone, insulin, and growth hormone all acting in harmony to facilitate body tissue repair. These hormones are the managers within his body that will use the protein and mild exercise to form new body tissue.

His growth hormone status is reflected by his appetite as well as his ability to improve muscle strength from mild resistance exercise. The appetite signal is called ghrelin, which also acts to stimulate growth hormone activation. Thus, if there is no appetite, then there is no growth hormone release from the food that is ingested – and little ability to build body structure from the food that is eaten.

If this is the case he should drink some warm vegetable broth ½ hour before eating, in an effort to stimulate an appetite signal by bringing warmth to his inflamed digestive tract. He can also take an herb like ginger or slippery elm, which soothes and promotes blood flow to the digestive system. He can also take digestive enzymes ½ hour before eating. He should also do some form of relaxation before eating. His goal is to get an appetite signal and when he gets it to eat.

If these strategies do not produce an appetite signal then he should consume fairly large amounts of first milk colostrum, which contains IGF1, the growth hormone signaling molecule.

He may have other digestive problems that need to be addressed, and these can vary considerably.

Summary

I have used the above tips many times to help individuals recover from weakened physical states, regardless of the cause. These tips do not interfere with any needed medical treatment for any problem that can be identified. Rather, they help turn the tide so that any needed medical treatment can work better.

While Jobs’ problems are not simple, they are solvable. However, the longer he stays in an inflammatory wasting condition the more damage that is caused, the faster he ages, and the higher the risk for cancer to return. If doctors better understood how to use nutrition to improve difficult health situations an awful lot of hardship could be spared and the odds for success could be improved for many health problems.

It will be interesting to see how the Steve Jobs story unfolds. Will he rise above his own health problems and a medical profession that pretends to be the authority on health but often falls short? If I were a risk taker, I’d bet on Jobs.

WHAT WILL CONGRESS DO?

By Lynn Stuter

January 6, 2009

NewsWithViews.com

In my last article, I quoted 3 USC, Title 3, Chapter 1, Section 15 governing the convening of Congress on January 6, 2009 to certify the vote of the Electoral College. On October 15, 2009, P.L. 110-430 was signed into law, changing the date set for the convening on Congress in this matter, from January 6, 2009 to January 8, 2009. P.L. 110-430 has yet to be codified (added to the United States Code), leaving people, including myself, confused about the conflicting dates seen in numerous articles on the subject.

In my last article, I put down, in succinct order, with as much clarity and simplicity as possible, twenty undisputed facts of why Barry Soetoro (a/k/a, Barack Hussein Obama) is not eligible to the office of president. I received e-mails from many that these twenty undisputed facts, along with the supporting evidence, were sent to U.S. senators and U.S. representatives. U.S. senators and U.S. representatives cannot claim ignorance of the facts.

A recent AOL.com poll shows that the American public is becoming increasingly concerned with the prospect that Barry Soetoro (a/k/a, Barack Hussein Obama) is not eligible to the office of president. With 108,503 votes registered, all but three states — NY, CT and DC — show a majority of those voting are concerned about Obama’s eligibility:

  1. 55% saying yes, they are concerned;
  2. 39% saying no, they are not concerned; and
  3. 6% saying they aren’t sure whether they are concerned or not.

This, of course, is not a scientific poll.

What will congress do on January 8, 2009?

Can we take our cue of what congress will do from a little publicized event that happened on April 30, 2008 in the U.S. Senate?

On that date, with little to no discussion, the U.S. senate, by unanimous vote (who all voted is not a matter of record), passed Senate Resolution 511. This resolution, sponsored by senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), had five co-sponsors: Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), senator Barry Soetoro (a/k/a Barack Hussein Obama) (D-IL), senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), and senator Jim Webb (D-VA) who all signed onto the bill as co-sponsors the day it was dropped, April 10, 2008. Amidst a growing controversy of whether presidential candidate John McCain, III, was a natural born citizen, and having been unable to pass legislation that would have clearly made him so, the title of S.R. 511 was simply “Recognizing that John Sidney McCain, III, is a natural born citizen.”

Understanding, of course, that this senate resolution was nonbinding and had no force of law, the Washington Post reported the following:

Senators sympathetic to McCain's position, including democrats Claire McCaskill (Mo.) and Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), dropped an earlier attempt to quell the eligibility controversy with legislation. McCaskill acknowledged in an interview that there is "no way" to completely resolve the question short of a constitutional amendment, a cumbersome process which could not be concluded before November.

She described the nonbinding resolution, which she sponsored, as "the quickest, clearest and most efficient" way for the Senate to send a message to the courts that McCain has the right to be president.

In the mix of co-sponsors on this bill, you will find two other presidential contenders: Barry Soetoro (a/k/a Barack Hussein Obama) and Hillary Clinton. These senators were sympathetic to McCain’s position? Is this the message Congress also wanted to send to the courts with regard to Barry Soetoro, a/k/a Barack Hussein Obama?

Should we be surprised if congress ignores the undisputed facts concerning Barry Soetoro (a/k/a Barack Hussein Obama) and votes to certify the Electoral College on January 8, 2009, officially certifying a usurper to the office of president?
