Alternative Health - History Today we have the majority of mainstream, "conventional", medical practitioners who have graduated from those pharmaceutical sponsored medical schools believing that laboratory produced medicines are very, very good and plant based, herbal medicines are very, very bad.
Sulfur (MSM) A Basic Essential Nutrient Needed Now, More than Ever Before
In home based remedies, the idea is to use the chemicals naturally present in the herbs, spices and other foods to tackle the offending foreign element in the body that is causing the pain or infection instead of flushing the body with hundreds of milligrams of strong chemicals in the form of antibiotics. Though essential for chronic conditions, antibiotics are not always necessary and are best avoided, especially for a lot of minor ailments.
It is common knowledge that antibiotics kill the friendly flora and fauna along with the offending bacteria or virus, thus causing the body to take longer to recover. Additionally, the body has to face a plethora of undesirable side effects such as excessive drowsiness, weakness, allergies and diarrhoea (caused by excessive heat generated) to handle. Scientists are discovering newer positive properties of foods and finding ways to it effectively to derive maximum benefits for the body.
Natural remedies can be used to effectively treat a range of ailments through correct and regular usage. Whether it is boosting your child's immune system, preventing hair loss, treating persistent acne or dandruff, treating aches, pains or cuts and burns.
Read on to discover and explore the world of simple, natural cures.

Is there more to Windows Vista being big brother than was originally thought? There appear to be features and services bundled into Windows Vista that stay in touch with the government and their associates, too.
If this is true, Microsoft has gone too far. This post was in an abandonia.com forum, and appeared to get overloaded from all the attention it was getting. Whitedust.net had a copy of it on their site.
A forum user switched to Windows Vista a month ago and actually had some good luck with it. He began noticing latency on his home network connection. He used port sniffing software and networking tools to see what was going on. What he found he referred to as "foundation shaking." There are some graphical images of a peerguardian 2 log with some very interesting information. The computer was in an idle state.
It shows the computer connected to the following (in his own words):
DoD Network Information Center (Department of Defense)
United Nations Development Program (Seems to correlate to the parent branch of the U.N. Informatics Division)
Halliburton Company (We all know these guys)
Ministry of Defense Data Return Agent
DOHS-Recon (traceroutes for this address provided nothing, suspected blocks on traceroute. Many of us who are monitoring this situation have suspected the acronym stands for the Department of Homeland Security Reconnaissance. This is merely a guess, but an educated one at that)
I ran traceroutes on the IP's, and sure enough they came back government owned. I thought this might be exclusive to my system, so I ran over to a friend of mine who upgraded to Vista when it first became available. After installing monitoring software on his system, the hits it caught on his network were immediate and almost identical in source.
Is there anyone in the abandonia community with a US based connection who is experiencing this watchdog behavior? Are any foreign Vista users experiencing similar attacks from their own countries ministries and governing agencies?
It would be interesting to see how common this is. If Microsoft is doing this to all their Windows Vista consumers, it's time to take a long hard look at how they do things.
Softpedia.com released a nice article regarding the plethora of Windows Vista "features and services" that collect, maintain and transmit your personal data to Microsoft and/or their "controlled subsidiaries and affiliates."
If you're going to use Vista, you really don't have much say in the matter. Microsoft makes it crystal-clear that they're gathering information.
The Vista Privacy Statement and the End User License Agreement (EULA) references most of these "features and services", but not all of them.
"This disclosure focuses on features that communicate with the Internet and is not intended to be an exhaustive list. It does not apply to other Microsoft sites, services and products."
Microsoft also makes it perfectly clear in the EULA that you are licensing it, not owning it. The Vista EULA is bad news for consumers.
With Vista, Microsoft provides a set of Internet-based services, which gives them full control of you and your data, including alteration and cancellation powers. Some of these "services" notify you that data is being collected and shared and some of them don't. The only way to stop this data mining is to know which services and features collect the data and turn them off or to not use them. Vista doesn't play nicely with third party freeware that performs some functions just as well as or better than the ones built into Windows.
Here are just a few of the services that collect and send data to Microsoft:
Auto Root Update, Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP), Device Manager Digital Certificates, Driver Protection, Dynamic Update, File Association Web Service, Games Folder, Input Method Editor (IME), Installation Improvement Program, Internet Explorer 7, IPv6 Network Address Translation (NAT) Traversal Service (Teredo), Network Awareness, Network Connectivity Status Icon, Parental Controls, Peer Name Resolution Service, Plug and Play, Plug and Play Extensions, Program Compatibility Assistant, Rights Management Services (RMS) Client, Update Root Certificates, Windows Control Panel, Windows Mail (Windows Live Mail, Hotmail, or MSN Mail), Windows Media Digital Rights Management and Windows Media Player.
There are several more listed on the Vista Privacy Statement site with explanations of what they do. We won't even go into detail about the nightmare or ineptitude of Windows Genuine Advantage.
With all these services running, it's no wonder Vista requires special hardware. Forcing everyone to buy a new computer helps a lot of the Microsoft "controlled subsidiaries and affiliates" sell their expensive hardware. Vista requires heftier hardware so Microsoft can gain full control of you and your system. There are more than enough issues here to raise several red flags regarding user privacy.
Microsoft tells you that you can disable these "features and services' or not use them. If previous history holds true though, turning off or disabling some of these services may cause glitches or potentially harm your system.
The two paragraphs below are part of the Windows Vista Privacy Statement:
"The personal information we collect from you will be used by Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates to provide the service(s) or carry out the transaction(s) you have requested or authorized, and may also be used to request additional information on feedback that you provide about the product or service that you are using; to provide important notifications regarding the software; to improve the product or service, for example bug and survey form inquiries; or to provide you with advance notice of events or to tell you about new product releases".
"Microsoft may disclose personal information about you if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with the law or legal process served on Microsoft; (b) protect and defend the rights of Microsoft (including enforcement of our agreements); or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, users of Microsoft software or services, or members of the public."

My thoughts- first of all, if they CAN do this (govt., etc., via OUR tax dollars), they WILL and DO. Legality doesn't seem to matter. And if your computer goes 'ka-poot', you are stuck with Vista or whichever newest model they force upon you. So, if they are going to spy on us and make us 'terrorists', they aren't yet killing us or imprisoning us for being internet Christians, etc... that will come. Meanwhile, we may as well spread the Gospel, and who better to get to witness to (and maybe convert- not likely, but you never can tell!) than government agents along with computer insiders!? In THIS case, when life hands you 'big brother' lemons, make lemonade! Now if they get to the point of closing down OUR computers because we are Christians, etc., well, back to square one. We can sure claim our battles are different in that domain than they've ever been before, and very end-time prophetic! --"Cheyenne Cin "- P.S. EVEN THAT, waking others up to the realities of the emerging beast, can be an opportunity for US! I wonder what the 'new and improved' AFTER VISTA but on to the next model will include on behalf of the New World Order?

Curiously Scrumptious Cookies for People with Diabetes and Celiac Disease
23 April 2007
Average Rating:
Curious Cookie makes some really good cookies. I had intended to eat one while writing this review, but curiously, there were none left. The staff had eaten the entire sample pack.
The cookies are concocted with pure, natural ingredients like Madagascar vanilla and Bavarian chocolate, but without trans fats, chemicals, genetically modified ingredients, or preservatives. In short, they have lots of good stuff and none of the bad stuff, a rare combination indeed.
As a thoughtful gesture for those of us who tend toward gluttony, Curious Cookies are individually wrapped, thereby encouraging us to eat one cookie at a time rather than an entire box at one sitting.
There are two special cookie lines, one for people with diabetes and one for people with celiac disease.
Suitable for people with diabetes are the sugar-free, low carbohydrate cookies made with Splenda, which have only 11 to 13 grams of carb per cookie. They come in flavors of Coconut, Ginger, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Macadamia Nut and Mocha Chocolate. Calories counts range from about 120 to 130 per cookie; (They’re not fat-free, that’s for sure.)
(I MUST BEG TO DIFFER- SPLENDA is horrible, dangerous. I would not recommend anything containing Splenda to ANYONE! --"Cheyenne Cin')
For people with celiac disease, the gluten-free line is also lactose- and casein-free. These cookies are available in Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Lemon Chocolate Chip, Ginger Cranberry and Chocolate Chip, and have about 21 to 22 grams of carb per cookie. Calorie counts range from about 140 to 170.

Want to keep your blood pressure below the 140/90 danger point? Get at least four servings of whole-grain foods a day.
Hypertension risk starts to drop with just one to two servings of whole grains daily, but getting four makes the greatest impact.
Whole-Grain Heroes For maximum RealAge benefits -- younger arteries, better bowel function, lower cancer risk, etc. -- you'll need six servings of whole grains daily. Not consistently reaching that goal yet? Use four as a stepping stone and research shows you'll enjoy better blood pressure on your way to six. (Whole grains are a key component of the hypertension-fighting DASH diet, too. Here's how it works.)
4 in a Flash It's easy to get four -- or more! -- whole grains into your day. Start early with a whole-grain cereal like shredded wheat. (Or, if you need a breakfast break from cereal, try this yummy Date and Oat Muffins recipe.) Then, use two slices of a whole-grain bread in your sandwich at lunch, air pop some popcorn for an afternoon snack, and have a scoop of brown rice with dinner.

We love The Everything line of cookbooks -- TE Vegetarian and TE Glycemic Index won us over. And now, they've added The Everything Whole-Grain, High-Fiber Cookbook. It's due in March, but if you're a TE fan, too, advance order now. This one's sure to be everything fabulous!
Blood pressure under control? Check. Cholesterol level okay? Check. Gait speed good? Umm . . . why does that matter, you ask?
Because gait speed may very well be another important "vital sign" -- like heart rate, blood pressure, and cholesterol level -- that helps predict how long you'll live.
Ready, Set, Go Your gait speed is the speed at which you walk when you're really trying. Faster walkers may be more resilient and able to bounce back better from a health crisis. Which may explain why the zippy over-65 walkers in a recent study enjoyed lower mortality rates. The magic speed for staying young? At least 2.25 miles per hour for people 65 and older. So time yourself on a treadmill or around the track. (While you're at it, check your heart-rate recovery with this tool.)
Contingency Plan for Slow Walkers If you don't hit the 2-mile-per-hour mark, don't despair. Improving your gait speed boosts your longevity, too. Start by doing some interval training, where you intermittently pick up the pace for a short distance. Some strength training can help you walk better and stronger, too. Here's an easy strength workout that uses your body as a gym.
And start walking -- every day. Before you know it, you'll be covering more ground in a little less time.
Packing your sandwiches with lots of crunchy bits could be good news for your waist.
That's right. When your diet is stuffed with difficult-to-chew foods, you increase your odds of a littler middle. So stack lots of crunchy cabbage, cucumber slices, and sprouts in those wraps and subs.
Jaws of Lite Soft, creamy foods may be a comfort, but the foods we're genetically designed for -- the hard and crunchy ones our ancestors thrived on -- are better for our health and waistlines, studies show. So give your jaw a little workout at each meal. (Read this article and learn why your waist circumference is so important.)
Crunchy and Nutritious The benefits of "hard" diets probably have something to do with what is usually found in hearty, chewy, crunchy foods -- less fat and calories and more fiber. It's certainly true for chewy eggplant and mushrooms, hearty broccoli and cabbage, and crunchy apples, carrots, and leaf lettuces. And yes, raw is best! (Here are three great ways to dress your raw or lightly steamed veggies.)

RealAge Benefit: Training your taste buds to love foods that thwart aging can make your RealAge at least 3 years younger.
Consider the refrigerator: Milk and butter keepers at eye level. Meat and cheese drawers front and center. But the lowly vegetable crisper? Down at the bottom. Rearrange! Load up with "top shelf" produce and focus on eating Raw with this tempting new book by famed gourmet chef Charlie Trotter.
Not Enough Sleep All Too Common America gets less sleep than it did in 1985, with more adults reporting that they sleep no more than six hours per night, says the CDC.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that often escapes diagnosis. As many as 50 to 60% of patients have no symptoms. Patients with this condition are allergic to grains (wheat, oats, rye, barley, triticale, spelt). When the gluten from wheat or other grains is eaten, antibodies are made that over a period of years injure the projections on the surface of the small intestine (villi). The surface of the small bowel becomes flat and normal absorption fails.
Diseases that are often confused with Celiac Disease include irritable bowel syndrome, iron deficency anemia from menstrual bleeding, Crohn’s Disease, diverticulitis, intestinal infections and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Celiac disease is common in countries that eat wheat and rare in China and Japan where rice is consumed. A recent JAMA paper reported that the incidence of CD in children ranges between one in 57 to one in 33, so this appears to be a common condition when carefully looked for. Early diagnosis and dietary therapy may prevent the development of other related autoimmune illnesses.
A very specific test for the disease is the test for antibodies to an individuals own enzyme antiTG(anti-tissue transglutaminase). This test will be negative if the patient has not eaten gluten (wheat) for a long time, so it is advisable to postpone this test until the patient has been back eating wheat for a week or two.
Symptoms of gastrointestinal disease are nonspecific and symptoms in other organs are fifteen times more frequent non viral hepatitis, osteoporosis, unsteady gait (ataxia), Type 1 diabetes, hair loss, psoriasis, polyneuritis, vasculitis, thyroiditis, Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, adrenal insufficiency, infertility, anemia, depression, and lymphoma and cancer of the small intestine. The best test to establish the diagnosis is small bowel capsule biopsy, which is safe and only infrequently fails to prove the diagnosis.
Failure to find this disease with continued wheat intake in children can be followed by poor growth and impaired brain development. The death rate in CD patients is twice that of normal individuals.
Of 128 men and women with osteoporosis, 12 (9.4%) were found to have celiac disease. Patients with celiac disease usually have a many-year history of faulty absorption of minerals, which could explain the osteoporosis.
In a review of 185 adults who had liver transplantation, eight persons (4.3%) were discovered to have celiac disease. Four more patients being considered for liver transplantation were found to have celiac disease. All four had improved liver function following implementation of a gluten free diet. All patients with severe unexplained liver disease need to be screened for celiac disease.
Many children with autism have small intestine damage, but only a few test positive for CD antibodies. A strict gluten-free, casein-free diet in these children led to improvement that disappeared when the diet was stopped. The problem in these children is believed to be food allergies(wheat, dairy) causing incomplete digestion of proteins, so that peptides are able to enter the blood stream and produce pain and diarrhea.
Dr. Jonathan Wright and investigators in Australia have learned that many patients (30%) with systemic lupus erythematosus have hidden allergies to gluten. When placed on a gluten free diet, these patients lose their symptoms of lupus and their blood tests for lupus revert to normal. The family history of these patients is loaded with auto-immune illness(lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, M.S., myasthenia gravis, asthma).
Dermatitis Herpetiformis is characterized by a skin rash with severe itching and blisters often found on the elbows, knees and buttocks. Twenty percent of patients with DH have Celiac Disease. Some psoriasis patients have antibodies to IGA endomysium and these respond with marked improvement on a gluten free diet.
A different investigation disclosed that incidence of CD is only one in every 133 persons. This helps prove that hundreds of thousands of persons with CD are escaping diagnosis. When studied between 5 and 15% of relatives of CD patients are also found to have CD. Three to eight percent of Type 1 diabetics have CD.
The dietary therapy of CD is quite complex because minute quantities of gluten in the diet impede healing. Many conglomerate produced packaged foods contain gluten without any wheat labeling. Wheat products are often used as thickeners, stabilizers and texture enhancers in mass produced foods. An intelligent informed dietician is imperative in counseling. A good gluten free diet leads to complete healing in 3 to 6 months. Foods that can safely be eaten by CD patients include potatoes, rice, amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat and bean flour.

Celery seeds are tiny and brown in color; they taste strongly of the vegetable and are aromatic and slightly bitter. The flavor is pleasant though, and the slight bitterness enhances other flavors. They are sometimes used where celery itself would not be appropriate, such as kneaded into bread doughs or sprinkled on crackers. They can used whole, tossed in salads or over cooked vegetables just before serving, or they can be ground and added to cooked dishes.

Hi Fellow quitters, How can I speed up the cleaning of my lungs after quitting smoking?
Last time I quit I didn't get anything up from my lungs, I'd expected to see something. Is there any way to speed up the repair of the lungs?
I heard that alot of coughing is how the lungs eject stuff, if this is true is there any way to encourage this?
Anything else I can do?

What exactly were you expecting? (im no doctor now) but i really dont think you should be expecting any gunk etc. to be coughed up; I smoked 8 years 20 a day os so and been off them 6 months but i have nt 'seen' any results either!
I was hoping that they'd start to purge themselves, it'd be a sign for me that they were getting fixed. I didn't expect anything. Do the lungs fix themselves?
I'd like to get some of my lung capacity back!
__________________ Cheers, LP.
Yes the lungs do heal themselves.
I decided to give up last week, and went 2 days off, then smoked 1 then 2 days off, etc, and on Monday I didn't smoke all day and out of nowhere I coughed and a ginormous mouth full of phlegm came up with streaks of blood in it. I havn't smoked since Monday, it scared the crap out of me.
In the morning I still have a slight layer of phlegm on the back of my throat but nothing I can expel.
Garlic capsules are meant to be amazing for lung disorders, cancer of the lungs, etc.
hmmm Garlic Capsules you say, I'll have a look at it. What about the basin of steaming water or something.
I regularly got bronchitis so I used steaming alot too.
If your lungs havn't cleaned themselves out then maybe they're really damaged from the hard tartar? Or don't neccessarily need to be cleaned out. If, when you cough, you hear a wheeze or your chest feels heavy then yeh, its not shifting and should have, see a doc, or steam yourself. But if your able to breath in and theres no wheeze or phlegm I think its when your 7 months a quitter that your lungs actually begin repair.
So I'd say, steam yourself, get someone to karate bang your back gently, with the sides if your hands and loosen up any things they can. My parents used to do that for me while I was still a smoker and was ill and it would work.
The garlic capsules are really meant to be very good. Don't forget that by improving other things smoking effected like circulation and your heart, it will have a positive effect on your lungs.
Fruit and veg, exercise. Swimming helped me on my way. I practise swimming under water lengths and see how far I can go holding my breath, its improved my lung capacity alot.
Good luck!
It takes an awfully long time to restore them. In my case I was coughing up stuff for a good few years after. In my last check-up I was told the lungs get back to normal after 7 years and life expectancy becomes the same as the rest of the population. Exercise, food etc. as posted will all help.
Nice, I've always been active but hope the quitting will improve my lung capacity for such stuff as swimming and surfing.
I'll try the steaming too and the garlic tablets, sure they won't hurt.
I'venver had a smokers cough or much wheazing even though I;ve smoked for about 15yrs now, don't know if that's good or not.
I think I'll start timing myself to see if there's an improvement.
Well i am noticing an improvement after a day or so, the breathing is easier and the lung capacity slighly more. I can feel that the cillia are lifting the mucus up actually.
I never did really cough in the mornings though.
Garlic can break down mucus and help with congestion.
i think exercise with expanding and contracting lungs would be most beneficial...though i am no doctor.
I smoked for years and never coughed up anything when I quit.

TOXEMIA AND ALKALOSIS
Walter B. Guy, M.D.
(An article from between 1930 and 1935)
In the understanding and treatment of the progressive degenerative diseases, much depends upon a practical knowledge of the cause of acidosis and toxemia, and of the condition known as alkalosis. The writer hopes to show that acidosis and toxemia are, in reality, synonymous, and that underlying the varied symptoms of these diseased conditions there is, in reality, a basic alkalescence of the cellular tissues.
To get an approximate picture of cellular chemistry we must first of all realize we are not dealing with fluids and solids but rather with a colloidal form of tissue, a popular illustration being a diluted mixture-of gelatin and water or gel. Dr. Edward J. Stieglitz writes: "The living cells of the kidney or elsewhere consist of just such colloids, containing many thousand different substances in complex combinations separated by surfaces and limits." (*) "Dr. Martin Fischer and Prof. Jacques Loeb demonstrated that with slight chemical changes, in the medium bathing living cells, the cells could be made to swell with water, or shrink and give up water at the will of the experimenter. Dr. Fischer studied not only the living cells, but simpler colloid mixtures, such as gelatin, and was able to show that increases in acidity and of certain salts, caused the gel to give up water and therefore to shrink in size. In the body swollen with edema exactly such phenomena occur. It is the 'thirst' of the chemically altered tissues that absorbs and binds the water, and the reason for the small urinary output is, in large part, that there is no or very little, water available for excretion by the kidneys.” (*) "In this connection one particular phase is of special interest. Fischer and others contended that the swelling results from increased acidity of the tissues so that their treatment consisted in the liberal administration of alkalies. This treatment is often effective; but inasmuch as the reaction of the kidney cells has been shown by the indicator method to be the opposite to the reaction of the urine eliminated, excessive alkali treatment is liable to cause injury to the kidney cells, and thus occasionally lead to suppression of diuresis, aggravating the dropsy. More recent work has demonstrated that certain acid-producing substances, like calcium chloride, give rise to a prompt and liberal flow of acid urine and a diminution in the edema. If the above explanation is correct, improvement by this treatment is probably due to favorable action on the kidney itself, the acidity of whose cells is diminished."
That the acid-alkali balance or pH in the colloidal tissues is the base of all the phenomena or disease symptoms which are termed acidosis, alkalescence or toxemia is readily understood. But what the medical world is in sore need of knowing is how to read these clues or symptoms aright and to better realize the causation of these clinical signs and their pathological significance.
What is acidosis? An accumulation of acids or a diminution of the pH reaction. But what acids? We can glibly say: carbonic acid in the blood or lactic acid in the tissues, uric acid in the joints and blood vessels; lactic, diacetic, butyric in the stomach or intestines, and so forth. We may even visualize hepatic acids in the liver, but unless we know why these acids appear in excess and their relation to alkalosis we shall never be able to understand their true significance or marshal our remedies effectively against them. The only normal acid in the animal body is, of course, hydrochloric acid--- found in the gastric juice. All other acids are waste products. The carbonic acid of the breath is created by the oxidation of the lactic acid of the tissues; therefore, an excess of lactic acid is a failure to oxidize this acid sufficiently. In diseases, such as cancer, tuberculosis and fevers, this failure of complete oxidation is present, particularly so in cancer, where the cancer cells, too, throw off this substance. The amino acids are but stages of food digestion, and, when present in excess, show impaired hepatic and pancreatic functions. The most pernicious form of acidosis is that produced when a stoppage occurs in the duodenum or pylorus. In this condition the HCI of the gastric fluid disappears, and other acids, such as the acetic, butyric, lactic, take its place. Also Dr. L. G. Rowntree, of Philadelphia, says in this condition the chlorine of the blood is usually diminished, the urea increased and the capacity of the blood to combine with carbon dioxide increased.*
The above quotation of Dr. Rowntree is worthy of more than a cursory reading. Many people, both young and old, have, if not a sore or ulcer at the pyloric orifice, an inflamed or congested area indicated by digestive distress. Dr. Moore says that achlorhydria (lack of stomach acid) occurs in some cases of apparently healthy persons and in many cases of gastro-intestinal disease. He also stresses its frequency in diabetes mellitus, and still greater frequency in thyrotoxicosis, as well as in certain non-megalocytic hypochromic anemias. Although achlorhydria occurs in both forms in anemia, a deficiency in hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice is a common symptom in depressive neuroses. It is frequently associated with mental fatigue, persistent worry and strain, especially in persons with a congenitally unstable psyche. The symptoms are very vague: lack of appetite, fullness after eating, gaseous eructations and diarrhea is more common than constipation. Pain is absent. Again we find quoted: "Moreover, hydrochloric acid forms with the duodenal membrane a hormone named secretin, which stimulates the pancreas (to form insulin), also formation of bile and activity of gall-bladder. It is estimated that 2 grams of HCI is required for a meal."
If we have followed the above carefully we shall realize how failure to secrete sufficient HCI in gastric juice gives rise to a long train of events: improper digestion, fermentation, therefore poor absorption of food and mineral elements, a likelihood of sore ulcers or cancer forming at the pyloric outlet; next an inactive liver and pancreas, failure to secrete the secretin hormone --which reduces sugar in blood, failure to oxidize lactic acid in tissues, more or less retention of CO2 in blood, inability to destroy bacteria sufficiently in food.
We can visualize still further a toxic liver, hypertension in arteries; retention of CO2 has been implicated in convulsions of epilepsy and other brain affections, also failure of endocrine glands to function normally, as well as diabetes and kidney affections. Still, we can go further and trace out more of the disturbances we may expect to gradually appear in various patients. The mineral elements have been mentioned. Improper digestion means malassimilation---an unbalanced mineral content of the body. What are some of these symptoms? First, a surplus of sodium; tissues too watery; tendency to edema and asthma; flabby muscles and little strength; a lack of chlorine produces a condition favoring boils, abscesses, pus formation. Deficiency of calcium means excess of sodium and deficiency of potassium; this last the writer believes to be the most important of all. Let me quote Dr. Robert A. Hatcher, of Cornell: "It is only within recent times that we have come to understand the importance of extremely small amounts of certain salts of the blood, and the influence exerted by even slight changes in its composition. Small amounts of potassium salts are essential for the heart-beat; large amounts are poisonous. It has been found recently that under certain conditions the behavior of the heart toward potassium is an index of its behavior toward therapeutic doses of the digitalis group, and those hearts which do not respond to potassium are incapable of benefiting by the use of digitalis."
No one who has not read the reports of potassium salts in fertilizing the soil can really appreciate its value; a common comparison of 30 bushels per acre of potatoes without it and 150 bushels or more by its presence in the soil is well known; yet it is used in such small amounts that such a difference is hardly believable. What of the body if it is deficient? We find coldness of extremities, weakness of heart an unhealthy, pasty skin, tendency to skin diseases, as well as malignant growths. And this is not all, for out of the potassium molecule in the gastric acid cell the hydrochloric acid is derived---not from the sodium chloride of the fluids, but from the solid tissues; therefore potassium is undoubtedly implicated in hypochlorhydria, with all its subsequent effects.
Shall the writer go further? Yes, there is more to say; viz., the lack of hydrochloric acid is the main causation of alkalosis. Much space might be taken up to show this is so; but let us go on to another sequel to its deficiency.
Tuberculosis is in everyone and everywhere. But why do the few succumb and the many escape its ravages? Alkalosis is the answer. When the cellular tissues are too alkaline, the fatty acids tend to disintegrate and give off glycerol; a study in fatty acids will readily show this to anyone. In this glycerol molecule (glycerin) the tubercle bacilli thrive. Let me quote an authority on this point, Dr. Esmond R. Long, University of Chicago*. "Curiously enough he says the tubercle bacillus stands almost alone in its dependence on one or two particular combinations of carbon. The most usable source of carbon by far is the relatively simple substance glycerol---luxuriant growth does not occur (in laboratory) in absence of glycerol." Again, Long says: “It may be that a difference in the availability of free glycerol in the tissues accounts for some of the differences noted in people in susceptibility to tuberculosis."
So far we have given an hypothesis; but to the writer the only real proof is a pragmatic one: Does the hypothesis work? Do clinical reports bear out these claims? I will quote but three cases, although many are indexed, then leave the formula I use today in the hands of my colleagues for their vindication. The formula contains: ferrum, necessary for oxidation of cell life; sulphur for same reason to complete cycle; chlorine and hydrogen to keep ions free; potassium to supply the hypothetical mineral deficiency and to enable gastric cells to form their own peculiar acid.
The formula now in use by the writer is as follows;(Note: these are old apothecary symbols, probably miscopied. Don't use.) Sol. potass. arsen. (Fowler's) drams j Tr. ferri chloridi drams v Sol. potass. chloridi (10%) Sol. potass. sulphatis (10%) as liquid ounces j Sol.acidi HCl (2%) ad liquid ounces iv
Case of Pat. R.; girl aged 8 years. Two years constant cough, night and day; fever, weak, dullness over lung area. History bad. X-ray showed lungs riddled with plastic areas; weight 50 lbs. Diagnosis: pulmonary tuberculosis. Realizing that ordinary treatment of bed and feeding was hopeless, she was allowed to run about and kept on her diet, but lunches were added, and kept from school. Treatment: the given formula, 5 drops 5 times daily. In two months almost complete cure has taken place, lung healed, gain 10 lbs., and child has romped herself to health, for she cannot keep quiet.
Case of J. R. D., 64 years oid, dairyman for 16 years. Had cold legs, pained at night, insomnia, nervous, liver and stomach involved, despondent, tongue red and cracked. Diagnosis: Potassium and chlorine deficiency. Formula; 9 drops 4 times daily. In one month completely well. All former treatments had failed and he had tried many physicians.
G. B., male, age 65. Diabetes for several years. Health poor, weakness and thirst. A small cancer the size of a quarter on neck. Treated by formula, also with Harrower's pan-secretin tablets. In three weeks was sugar free. The growth was removed by zinc chloride paste and a small daily dose of the mineral chloride formula keeps him in good health. In fact, the writer finds that all cases of functional diabetes become sugar free if the above gland tablet is used while needed, in addition to above prescription.
CONCLUSION
Much more could be said concerning the complex cellular chemistry, but many of my medical colleagues can hold up their own hands or those of their elderly patients, and see their swollen or distorted joints and say, "Aklalosis." Then if they will, they can take this formula and week by week see these infiltratcd joints subside with increase of bodily comfort and. physical strength, and realize that alkalosis causes precipitation of waste products, and that the administration of alkalies but changes the acid waste products into salts, to be deposited as sodium urate, in those joints farthest removed from the heart, or to form calculi in bile or kidneys. Destroy these acids by the stronger natural normal acid (HCI) and they will be eliminate; broken down by alkalies they become deposits. The formula is designed to increase the amount of HCI in the gastric juice, to supply deficient minerals, and finally to restore the chemical reactions of the body to their normal metabolism. A word of warning seems necessary, viz.: keep to a small dose. Recently a fisherman with furunculosis of arms took instead of 9 drops, a teaspoonful as a dose. After the second dose he had to walk about for half an hour to overcome the numbness and failure of circulation in his legs. Needless to say his boils soon disappeared.
The potassium salts suspended in an acid medium have free ions and are rapidly assimilated. The formula is self-sterile and can be given intravenously, 3 to 5 minims in 10 c.c. of distilled water as needed; by mouth, well-diluted, 5 to 20 drops three to five times daily. The writer gives it in hot water in cases of cholecystitis, with inevitably happy results. If desired, calcium chloride can be used in place of the potassium salts when indicated in edema, asthenia (weakness), etc.

It is a logical assumption that a lack of sufficient minerals in the daily diet must of necessity give rise to a deficiency in the hydrochloric acid... www.rheumatic.org/hcl.htm - 53k
CHECK YOUR STOMACH FOR SUFFICIENT HYDROCHLORIC ACID
To test for sufficient hydrochloric acid -
You need betaine hydrochloride tablets plus enzymes - they are available from health food shops.
Take half a tablet before the last mouthful of a main meal. Burning or indigestion means you have plenty of hydrochloric acid. Don't take any more tablets. Use antacid or teaspoonful of bicarbonate to relieve discomfort.
If no burning or indigestion, next day take 1 tablet in the same way. If still no burning or indigestion, next day take 2 tablets in the same way. If still no burning or indigestion, then you need more acid.
There are other tests for stomach PH but they're all invasive.
So if you need more acid, then you take 2 betaine hydrochloric acid tablets with main meals and 1 tablet with small meals. Swedish bitters can also help, as can wine with meals and eating calmly and enjoying food.
HCL (DILUTE HYDROCHLORIC ACID) THERAPY
In general terms it could be said that the response of a sick individual to accept the therapeutic measures whether they be serums, vaccines, X-ray, radium, surgery, intravenous medications, blood transfusions, glandular therapies, re-mineralization, vitamin therapies, hyperpyrexias, refrigeration, osteopathic or chiropractic manipulations, the new wonder drugs, and so forth, the best we could say of those is that they are of a hit or miss proposition.
To date, no branch of the healing arts has as yet found a logical or truly scientific basis on which to study the cause or treatment of functional chronic or degenerative disease. The practitioner frustrated by lack of satisfactory physical and mental response among chronic patients has been skimping in his efforts to rehabilitate them. However, he can and does justify his mere routine consideration with the thought that the acutely ill need all of his time and attention and that the chronics whom he generally dismisses as hypochondriacs will manage somehow to get along. This attitude for sometime has deeply concerned both medical and public health men who are in a position to know the facts. Why is there this appalling and utter disregard for treatment of the chronic patient?
The medical man claims dogmatically, "I am the true physician and mine is the correct approach of therapeusis." However, major aspects of the general public are continually faced with incompetent diagnosis such as just plain nerves, or neurasthenia, or nervous digestion, or exhaustion of nervous energy, or nervous dyspepsia, or nervous stomach, or hypochondriasis, or psychoneurosis, of essential hypertension, or general asthenia, or imaginitis, and let it go at that. There is no question but that American medicine and its allied healing arts have utterly failed in their mission. We have for some reason allowed our medical practice to lag at least 50 years behind the times and are not only content with, but are insisting upon, the same old unnatural therapeutic approaches to the chronic disorders of age. Adequate medical care, the traditional American dream is not even obtainable by the very rich!
We must attribute this failure to the fact that in the study of chronic and degenerative disease, for too long a time, medical science has passionately and blindly concerned itself with the study of end results without due consideration of first, the manner in which your health comes about, and second, the physiological alterations that are occasioned long before tissue pathology sets in and thirdly, the environmental conditions which have contributed to its development and fourthly, that the disease is not a separate entity or process all by itself but rather that it effects and is effected in turn by the organism as a whole.
The pathological anatomy, the visible or palpable changes in the structure that is found in the organs and tissues of the body was, and still is, the foundation of practice of those who have not kept abreast of the changes that modern science has brought about. And yet there is a basic phenomenon which occurs over and over again in the practice lives of physicians and healers. Every practitioner at one time or another has seen or heard about one or more persons ill with an acute disease hopelessly beyond human aid or of others afflicted with an incurable chronic disease to have been able in some inexplicable manner to reverse the vital processess of injury and repair, action and reaction so that the body having acquired natural immunity, or shall we say having increased the body's resistance, there results an increasing cellular or tissue reaction followed by destruction of the invader, restoration of balance, repair of all injured and diseased tissues and a seemingly miraculous recovery takes place.
As yet no one has come forward with an intelligent explanation except to call them spontaneous recoveries, or better yet MIRACLES.
In search for a remedy that would stimulate the reticulo-endothelial systems of the body, I performed a number of experiments. One experiment was to introduce a number of substances under the cover- glass slip of the microscope slide while observing the red, white, and bacterial cells under dark field microscopy.
I experimented with serial dilutions of EDTA as a chelator and hydrochloric acid (HCL) as a reducer. Once I had the dilutions down to the point where red cell damage did not occur visibly I made the discovery that I was looking for.
Two things were obvious by direct vision of the infected human blood before my eyes:
1) The EDTA dissolved the bacteria. 2) The hydrochloric acid increased the activity of the white blood cell.
The white cell observation was astounding and led me to a search of the worlds literature on the use of hydrochloric acid in the human body. The reports that came in were old but fascinating, I had no alternative but to begin to give myself the treatment and watch the changes in my own blood.
A number of excellent reports were made by Drs. B. Ferguson, W.B. Guy, I. Howell, W.G. Brymer, M.A. Craig, A.M. Allen, F.J. James, O.P. Sweatt, R.L. Sills and E.D. Jackson, and perhaps the largest concentration to the world's literature was by R.R. Garcia.
It was on the strength of their efforts and the years of clinical work done by my mentor Dr. Black that I made this profound discovery.
When hydrochloric acid is injected into the body in very dilute, physiologic amounts, the white blood cell systems increase their activity, the blood pH returns to normal regardless of whether it is too acid or too alkaline and the number of white cells increase.
What follows are some random thoughts on this subject.
The most obvious clinical observation in the treatment of an acute infectious disease with the use of hydrochloric acid is that a greater phagocytic activity is imparted to the white cells by the injection of the dilute solution of hydrochloric acid into the bloodstream, and that the activity varies in intensity with different individuals. It proved to be a very important factor in the improvement of the state of resistance of the organism.
Leukocytes and phagocytosis, important as they are, are but a link in a chain of events of its defense mechanism to combat disease, whether it be acute, chronic or degenerative. As part of the natural mechanism of defense and repair we can make several observations in the acute disease. The body must marshall all of the forces of the defensive mechanism in order to sustain the successful struggle in the favorable cases. The unfavorable conditions are increasing injury and diminishing reaction. These must be changed to increasing reaction and diminishing injury with destruction and ultimate repair of the injured and diseased tissue.
In order to accomplish this effectively there must take place an adequate febrile reaction to bring about attenuation of the invading pathogenic microorganisms, rapid elimination of accumulated bacterial and normal production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. There must be an increased presence in the bloodstream as the acid responsible for the maintenance of a normal pH. Obviously in the treatment of any disease process we must do away with all predisposing conditions such as malnutrition and local infection. We must bring about elimination of all accumulated bacterial and metabolic poisons. There must take place restoration of tissue susceptibility, the production of hydrochloric acid whether too much, or too little, or none at all, and its presence in the bloodstream must be restored to normal. In other words a physiological balance must be restored. It is reasonable to believe that the acid-base balance of the blood is maintained through the acid cells and since hydrochloric acid is the only inorganic acid normally made in the body and that it is to this acid specifically that we must attribute the apparent acidic response of the white cells. When this condition of physiologic balance exists the individual is in the state of absolute immunity. He is in good health and in the possession of a normal pH in the bloodstream and other fluids in the body. The normal pH in itself is what could constitute what is generally known as a natural immunity. Certain organs and tissues possess an ability to modify their own immunity make up or local defense mechanism. These seem to be governed by a normal production of HCL in the stomach and a normal pH in the bloodstream. Consider continuity of the skin covering, with its acid mantle, the acidity of the stomach contents, the defense mechanisms within the nasal passages, the secretions and linings of the eyes, mouth, intestinal tract, female and male genital urinary tracts, and at times the presence of specific immunity.
It is well known that practically everyone is harboring at various times in the membranes of the throat, mouth and nasal tract the germs of influenza, pneumonia, scarlet fever, croop, measles, mumps and other contagions without becoming a victim of the disease itself. It is also known that in order that infection shall develop it is not only necessary that the bacteria grow in the tissues but it is necessary that they injure the tissue and thus induce the reaction of disease. This they do at times by producing injurious substances in sufficient quantities, that is, bacterial forms.
The presence of a normal production of hydrochloric acid and its presence in the bloodstream and other fluids of the body is the agent responsible for the acidity of the white cells and the maintenance of a normal pH. It is the agent that renders the fluids and tissues of the body bactericidal and unfavorable as a media. The more the white cells are maintained in a phagocytic state the better is the natural immunity.
(HCL and EDTA have both been used with DMSO to get these substances in the blood stream without the usual shots. DMSO can often be obtained in Health Food storeas and Vet Suppliers. Diluted with 50% sterile water some treat themselves..... Such treatment CANNOT BE CONDONED of course, and any medical problems are best taken care of by private physicians....)
An infection can go in only so many ways. It can either be aborted, arrested, or carried on a successful termination. In the treatment of all functional metabolic, endocrine, allergic, chronic and degenerative disease, once the production of hydrochloric acid becomes restored to normal there takes place a restoration of the normal acid base balance, reversal of the vital processes, followed by repair of all injured and diseased tissues with restoration of good health. When the production of hydrochloric acid falls short, a fact easily demonstrable by laboratory techniques and which may be observed to take place at birth or at any time during our natural expanse of life, the conditions of hyper-chlorhydria, hypo- chlorhydria or achlorhydria take place. This deficiency in hydrochloric acid production may be temporary or permanent in character, and may be brought about by one or more predisposing factors such as malnutrition, focal infection, chronic poisoning, exposure, fatigue, emotional distress, shock and so forth.
A better understanding of the concept of disease and immunity can be had by evaluating a few of the things that we are known about immunity. First of all, antibodies are specific as the organisms which have called them into existence. Second, the bactericidal power manifested by blood serum of man or animal toward all microorganisms outside the body is not dependent on the presence or absence of specific antibodies. Thirdly, the presence of immune bodies does not convey absolute immunity against a specific disease and fourth, when invasion takes place and the reactions of disease manifest, the disease may be mild although not infrequently may be severe irrespective of the presence or absence of immune bodies. The question that follows is how can we explain the inherent value of specific immunity and the manner in which it affords protection? Why does this protection fail so frequently? It is possible that the it comes into play only when the latter has failed to prevent invasion? The leukocytes, or the white blood cells, are factors which aid or supplement the natural immunity. At times, however, when the virulence of the invading pathogen and the influx of toxins into the bloodstream is of such a preponderant nature, the immune bodies become overpowered. The excess toxins not only paralyze or shock the white cells into inactivity but they also bring about tissue injury and the resultant reactions of disease. Many times in doing dark field microscopy of individual's blood, I have found massive accumulations of L-form bacteria and yet the white blood cells are completely dormant, non-motile, non-phagocytic and huddled up in a little ball doing nothing.
Good health and the presence of absolute immunity depend on the existence of a normal production of hydrochloric acid and its presence in the bloodstream and other fluids of the body. When the HCL production falls short, and a progressive diminution takes place, we find a loss of absolute immunity, a decreasing degree of tissue susceptibility, an imbalance of blood chemistry, and poor digestion and assimilation. This is the starting point of general ill-health and malnutrition. It is a logical assumption that a lack of sufficient minerals in the daily diet must of necessity give rise to a deficiency in the hydrochloric acid production. It is known that certain salts, such as potassium, are needed by the glands responsible for its production.
It is also known that when the hydrochloric acid production falls short the required amount necessary to maintain the acidity of the white cells and the acid-base balance becomes insufficient and hydrogen chloride eventually vanishes from the circulation. When hydrogen chloride disappears from the circulation some other acid must take its place immediately in order to maintain the pH of the circulating fluids. The acid wastes assume the role of hydrogen chloride in the blood chemistry. This is followed by an imbalance of the blood chemistry.
The acid wastes can not be thrown off as quickly as they are formed so they begin to accumulate in the fluids and tissues of the body with the resultant struggle between these and the alkaline reserve. The result is a depletion of the latter.
Functional disorders of a metabolic, endocrine and allergic nature and the condition of acidosis become manifest. The person loses his natural immunity and is highly prone to develop focal infection followed by acute disease. In this depleted condition they lack the necessary reserve to destroy the invading microorganisms completely.
It has been well established that in all cases of malnutrition the condition of acidosis is always present. There follows a reduction of physiologic functions and the EVER INCREASING accumulation of acid metabolic wastes in the bloodstream. The hydrogen chloride production becomes diminished. The hydrogen ions necessary for the maintenance of a normal pH fall short and sooner or later hydrochloric acid is replaced by the waste acids in the maintenance of the acid base balance. These acid wastes include carbonic acid, diacetic acid, lactic acid, acetic acids, fatty acids, uric acid, etc. These acid wastes however, are abnormal constituents of the bloodstream and will act as a disruptor of the natural blood chemistry.
When hydrochloric acid vanishes from the circulation hypersecretion of hydrochloric acid takes place in the gastric cells responsible for its production. A condition known as hyperchlorhydria supervenes. The excessive secretion of hydrogen chloride is but an effort on the part of nature to restore its presence in the bloodstream by sheer force of numbers. Sooner or later however, the gastric cells begin to tire and the component chemistry begin to dwindle. Thus the production of hydrogen chloride begins to fall short. Focal infection pours a continuous stream of bacterial poisons into the blood stream bringing about a diminution and ultimately a disappearance of hydrogen chloride from the circulation with a resultant loss of phagocytic activity. There then follows an extension of the primary focus to one or more parts of the body creating newer disease processes and newer foci of infection and the probability of a chrnoic poisoning such as lead, arsenic, monoxide gas, narcotics, alcohol, and so accumulation of the absorbed poisons plus the acid metabolic wastes causes a resultant condition of acidemia. There follows a deficiency of HCL production, malnutrition, loss of tissue susceptibility and thus the general causation formulation that leads to the chronic and degenerative disease. Recent studies in Germany and in this country demonstrate that cancer, diabetes, acute infection, neurosis, passive congestions, gastric catarrh, severe anemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, chemical poisoning, affections of the heart, neoplastic growths, metabolic and endocrine disorders, senile insanities, dyspepsia, chronic ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, cholecystitis, appendicitis, duodenitis, worry, anxiety and pyloric obstruction show pronounced changes in the hydrochloric acid production. Too much, too little or none at all.
Statistical surveys have been made of the gastric acidity of patients of all ages and it was found that 25-30% of those over the age of 45 showed no free or combined hydrochloric acid. The incidence of achlorhydria in the whole series of more than 3,000 patients examined was more than 10%. We know that pepsin is inactive unless a considerable amount of hydrochloric acid is present. We also know that very few bacteria can survive the acid conditions in the stomach and that the gastric juice partially sterilizes the food preventing putrifaction during the gastric phase of digestion. Without acid in the stomach the benefit of this action is not obtained.
Let us consider the protective agencies of the animal organism but instead of talking about antibodies, vaccines, antitoxins, immunity of the blood, dietary regimens, etc. let us go to rock bottom and consider the very essential mineral elements of which our body is composed. It is generally believed that organic life began in the saline ocean many eons ago and that the chemical formula of that ocean, of the blood serum, and the temperature of the body have not changed materially since that time. That the ocean is generally always free from corruption no matter how many of its animals die within it, is probably due to its chlorine content. Chlorine related not only to sodium chloride but also to the chlorides of magnesium, calcium, and other minerals present.
Let us study the part that chlorine plays in the digestion of food and its absorption into the body tissues. Chlorine may be found free as hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice or combined with albumin in albuminosis or it may be found united with sodium chiefly in the fluids of the body and with potassium in the solids. Potassium was also found as a chloride by preference in morphological elements like blood corpuscles, muscle cells, etc. Calcium chloride is found in the gastric juice as a secondary product. Hydrochloric acid favors the excretion of calcium phosphates.
The normal gastric juice in man contains some two to three parts of hydrochloric acid per thousand. In healthy dogs five parts is found.
It is curious that a healthy dog can eat septic meat and if its stomach is opened one half hour later the foul odor of the meat will be found sterile. The acidity and the germicidal quality of the chorides perform this action. Too often; however acidity of the stomach is not due to an excess of hydrochloric acid but rather to an excess of lactic acid and if content of the stomach is alkaline, oxibuteric, diacetic and other acids due to putrefaction processes are present. Curiously Scrumptious Cookies for People with Diabetes and Celiac Disease
You can buy the cookies online at www.curiouscookie.com or 877-YUMMY-2-U.
