The UN declared 2000 as the International Year for a Culture of Peace. Help children to become active peacemakers for their future. 2000 is being heralded as building a MILLENNIUM of Peace. Join in worldwide efforts toward making that vision a reality. This site is Alta's effort to encourage that and recognize our friendships throughout the year.
The concept of the International Fest is simple to add into classroom curriculum at any age level. Alta Elementary had its' first International Celebration (or Fest) on January 28, 1999. We called our first a New Year's Celebration. The idea of the New Year is to honor in the year celebrating international awareness, friendships, and promoting global harmony as a theme to usher in a New Year. These efforts should not be limited to any one day and so schools can choose to participate in what fits into their schedules and seasons. Ideally, as many schools as possible can hold some sort of celebration or ceremony at the same time, but the purpose of this site is to promote efforts that far exceed any single day and far exceed this group.
How much or how little you do depends on what fits your needs, students and school, but the potential is tremendous. This is a message board for teachers to post and share a variety of ideas for use throughout the year on the theme.
Purpose: Because for the children we want to build the best tomorrow we can. The future they hold starts today.
