Hi Peter Thanks for the input, yeah it was just something that I had seen written on a few different forums, but no real facts to back it up.Like you said you can ask 10 people and get 10 different answers,it's just the engineer I spoke too thinks it will be nearly impossible to get an old engine to pass current emissions laws no matter what I do. He didn't have any answers on how to it. If you have looked on the GTi forum, there are hundreds of guys have done this conversion on GTi's up to 2003 model GTi's but so far I haven't had any useful hints on how they passed emissions,if in fact they have at all,Maybe there all illeagal and know someone dodgy for pink slips.I haven't found any factual information yet.. It was suggested I use smaller injectors and a chiped ecu may help when detuned just for the test.I'm not a machanic by trade so I'm unsure if
that is a viable option without doing any damage..It would be interesting if you were able to test 2 cats and solve the misinformation around the traps. Thanks. Regards Neil

Hi Guys,
I went down the road of asking about 2 cats for my ICV when someone
suggested that it may be a way around my problem. Apparently the
thinking seems to be that the chemical makeup of the exhaust gasses
are altered significantly in the first cat (as they should be) and
are no longer in the necessary concentrations to make the second cat
effective. It would seem that to make a second cat useful, then you
must have one that runs at a different temperature and uses a
different catalyst material to work on whatever is left after the
first time through. Please bear in mind that I am not a combustion
engineer and I haven't done back to back tests myself to prove this,
(maybe I should!) but the engineer I'm using on my project knocked
the idea on the head.
Unfortunately, I have to go along with what will get signed off as
legal, but it is the inconsistency in engineers across Oz that has
meant that I have had to turn away hundreds of thousands of dollars
worth of work because of "interpretations" , and everybody supposedly
has the same rulebook. I have been heavily involved in the kit
car/modified/ street machine industry for nearly 15 years now and the
level of crap has risen every year. All I can suggest is find an
engineer that likes what you're trying to do, and go with him.
Cheers, Pete.

wont work,but I don't know why??Emissions is a specialist field and
exhaust places don't know or don't want to know. These days no one
gives you advise for free, they always want to do the job for a
cost.so getting accurate information for free is difficult. Let us
know.
