Re: [Jumbuck] suspension upgrades

neil, wishing you and yours a very merry christmas and a safe and prosperious new year . with regards to the suspension , the jumbi started life as a cc lancer wagon as the wheelbase , fuel tank position , spare wheel are the same . the front at least has some good mods that can be done to it . your options go from lowered coils to shocks to adjustable coil overs all available from good dealers. when it comes to brakes ,dba have slotted rotors and better pads. if you require bigger stuff then you can opt for evo 1 struts and 300mm rotors and twin spot calipers .down side is 5 stud wheels. the problem comes from the back , suspension wise ,leaf springs can't do a lot with em good schocks and thats about it.you could graft a set of discs wouldn't be to hard. remember it was built as a work hack not a race car. the good thing is that anything we do will be pioneering and having a shitload of fun.i was talking to my proton guy's today , don't expect anything to change in the jumbi lineup for at least 3yrs and when it does happen it could be the new gen2 as a ute. as far as hp goes because of the engine bay layout you can only use early mitsi engines cause from '96ish onwards the engines were reversed [clutch on passenger side ] still theres a great choice. so while it's a really great thing to own you are hobbled by old technology.anyway keep on keeping and we"ll see you the flip side jeff ps try these sites xtmods.com and protongtiforums.com

Hi Jeff
Thanks for the information. I don't mind spending the money so much,Its more a case of finding the right parts to fit. I love this little ute but information is very hard to find as to which model parts will fit properly. Not many people seem to know much about them.I guess that can only improve in time. This is why I started this group as a learning excersize.
How did you find the top strut bar, On standard suspension I found it makes it want to over/under steer depending on the corner and speed into it.
Thanks for your input,all noted.
Regards neil

hi neil, jeff here i've lowered mine with a kit from fulcrum suspensions here in brisbane, in the front they use a 35mm lower coil and in the rear they replace the single leaf with a four leaf setup which brings the back down 75mm.the kit costs about 600 squids.fit yourself. if you want to go lower a lancer coil is available it's 65mm but for the rear you would have to get them specially made.i'm using stock shocks and sway bars.maybe a gti front sway bar will fit but a genuine one will cost the earth . a front gti bar is 2500 not painted or fitted. a driving light is 317.00 so don't brake em . most early mitsi stuff will fit 90 / 95 models. i guess it comes down to $$$$ a turbo from rpw is about 4k but u could go with a transplant 4g93 /4g63 /4g92t or mivec again wot $$$ anywho hope this gives u some food for thought i'm looking at a turbo as my son has just blown his 270hp silvia so a gt24 is looking goodany catch ya jeff
