Thanks for the info.Benno
I believe DBA sell blank slotted rotors.Drilling them is no problem.
Do you know if the VR-4 calipers are the same as the EVO ones.

So your using Evo calipers on the jumbuck,is that correct.Would it possible to get some pics posted. Hey

the only way to make ure jumbuck sound better without doing an
exhaust mod is to remove the air box and look inside, you will fin a
hole that air can go thru after going thru air filter.

i have plugged mine and it now has a lot louder intake noise on full
throttle.

the other part ure talking about needs to be there as already advised.

i have a K&N filter that sits in my original air box and with the
hole plugged it sounds a bit better than standard....just need
exhaust upgrade now

thanks to all for imput about engine conversion..i think i'll spend
my money on my house instead

would like to convert to rear wheel drive tho and leave standard
engine....is it possible????

cheers

Matt

The "box" on the air intake is there to provide a place, for want of a better description, for air to accumulate when you shut the throttle suddenly. With out it, you get a pressure wave running the wrong way ie back towards the air filter. This will cause a flat spot if you take your foot of the accelerator and then put it straight back on again. Taking the chamber off will not improve anything, in fact, the exact opposite. It's size ,shape and position has been carefully calculated. Don't play with it.

hey,

you are talking bout the thing the sit bout half way up the intake
between the air box and throttle body, that kinda looks like a square?
that points down....

taking that off wont give you can performance... but you will hear the
sucking nosie alot more, thats all that that does and removes the
sucking noise

Hi lee_mc15
Welcome to our group.
Can't wait to see some photo's of your conversion.
Have a good look around in the files/links/photo's sections.
You may be interested in the jumbuck wiring diagrams for when you do
your conversion. There in the files section. Good Luck.Keep us posted.

Hi Haroon
Yeah sorry I hadn't heard that description before. If you mean the front section before the air box that loops down behind the inner guard and comes back up into the engine bay behind the drivers headlight. Thats the air intake opening.
The K&N filter makes it sound a little more throaty (it sucks harder)
That section could be removed and a 3" cold air induction tube put in down to/ behind the bumper. There is only a very very small gain to be had from doing this
mod, but it gives you some satisfaction form doing some work yourself.
Regards Neil

Hi Ant
Yes you could put a socket in the hole for the plug. There are a number of 12v wires in the plug already so it would be easer just to buy the plug and wire up what ever you want to use from it. The plugs can be bought from most electrical
suppliers, buy a few of them and wire up different things to run of it.

Hi matt,

i've looked into this a bit and it's not real easy putting 4wd
underneath the buck from what i gather it's mainly got to do with the
fact its irs in the rear (could be wrong). I think the 4g63 turbo
motor is pretty much i direct bolt in for the jumbuck, you can take
the box outta the gsr to someone to get the cogs to the rear diff
removed(think thats right my memorys fuzzy). as for cost you'll most
likely have to get it rebuilt to get a decent power figure cos the
engines are getting old now and that alone can cost in excess of
$2000. I figured it would be easier just to convert the thing to rwd
and put n engine in i like(not saying 4gs are bad haha), i know a few
ppl who can get me cheap parts and what not so that makes it alot
easier as swell. i think all up it should cost now more than $12000
for what im doing. it's probably best to talk to the guys at rpw, if
you wanna know more just email me or leave a msg here. im puttin my
car in this week to get it quoted to put my rotary so i might be able
to give you and idea

cheers leith

What part are you calling the air filter resonator?

Changing the standard air filter to a K&N panel filter Will improve performance a little and improve fuel consumption by around 50klm a tank full.

Hi Matt
Engine conversions are a big topic,There is no simple answer.Depends on what and how much you can do yourself if you even want to.To pay someone to do it all could cost anything up to $10,000depending on who/where/when.You would have to source a half cut from a jap import Wrecker.
A GSR half cut is anywhere between $2500 - $3500 + the conversion cost??? and thats only if you can find a half cut. I have been trying to buy one for 2 years now. Evo half cuts are probably easer to find than a gsr one and cost a little more
but are a bit harder to fit so there are lots to consider.Do some searches  on some of the Gsr/Lancer/GTi/forums to get some idea.Every Rebuild/Coversion is different for different reasons, cost wise and parts wise depending on you sources.
To give you some idea my GSR Engine rebuild so far has cost me around $8860.00 and thats doing it all myself and its not complete yet, In my case I expect it to total about $15000.00 all up with the conversion, but with mine everything is brand new. BUT for that price you could buy a new car.
So you can see there is no simple answer to your question.
Regards Neil

Hi

just wondering if anyone know how much $$ it takes to do an engine
swap into jumbuck

either GSR or Evo engine

also if anyone knows how easy it is to do AWD setup and where would
I source the parts, (engine and drivetrain)

yes i am thinking about taking the plunge

havent done much with engines B4 so might look @ paying someone to
do the install or if it isnt toooo hard then i could try it myself

looked in the engine bay lastnight, seems very simply put together
so who knows

appreciate any info

thanks

After getting my jumbucks handbrake fixed i stopped off a supercheap
and picked up a neon for 18 bucks and decided to install it, it looks
pretty good but i only have it on the driver side so far as i couldnt
find anywhere hidden to put it under the dash. ive also posted a pic up
of my neon, nothing special but i like it
