Maybe Audible has changed policies, but in the small company I work for, if a
customer had complained -- instead of saying, tough luck -- I'd have tried to do
something, usually at the company's expense (more of an LL Bean way of looking
at things). Here, they've taken a LOT of my money (over $200) and NOT provided a
service or product to go with it & they say -- SORRY BUSTER, YOU WERE AN
IDIOT!!! While, in the company I work for, we'd take back product, pay their
extra freight, whatever to make the customer happy...

That is the problem, they didn't TRY to fix it, they ran off with MY money &
said, "Sorry, no fine print." I know in MY company, even though we were in the
right, we try to make nice, unless the person is being unreasonable. I find it
NOT unreasonable to ask for the goods you have ALREADY paid for!!! CREDITs
SHOULD ACCRUE, in that sort of situation.

THEY ARE NOT A GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPANY.

My sister just resently tried to become a member and had yet to recieve an
answer. That and the fact this site seems to be used now for other things
instead of the fics here seems to indicate that noone is monitoring this site
anymore. Is Katling going to be writing any more on any of her storys fanfiction
or original?

It would be ashame if she has stopped. I do check this site daily in the faint
hope of new chapters. Hipocritical I know considering I haven't updated my own
stories in months, but then again My writing isn't even close to being on par
with hers so that doesn't matter. This and the fact mine are only a couple of
chapters long no one is waiting for what comes next in a story they have
followed for months.

I will keep checking reguardless ever hopeful to a continuation of stories I
have read and reread until I know them by heart.

ALl,

I am looking for a fanfic that i read a while ago and cannot remember the name.
It had Harry going back in time to train with the founders (Slytherin included)
and had him returning with new skills. Also he had made friends with a lot of
the magical creatures back then and that catried forward as well (something
about him saving a centaur princess and they gave him a distinction).

Can anyone help me?

I actually completely disagree. I've been a member of audible for nearly
eight years now, and I've never had a problem with them. I'm not saying
that your experience isn't wrong, and usually audible will fix that kind of
thing. But as in anything, you are responsible to use the credits or lose
them, and it should have been spelled out to you when you signed up for
whatever plan you have. I get my books every month because I'm addicted to
them and want to be able to keep them. I've never had one problem with
audible or their service. I know that every customer has a different
experience, just giving my experience with the program, which has been one
of the great joys of my life.

I'm mad as heck at Audible. I got a subscription when I got my MP3 player, 2
years ago. I have listened to tons of books on tape (CD, etc) but mostly I
get them from the library.... silly me, I've payed for this for 2 years, and
only got 2 books... should have about 40+ credits worked up, at $11 /
credit, right? WRONG... only give you 6 months worth... they don't stop
charging after 6 months of non-use!!!
When I called to complain, they offered me 4 months refund, or the 6 months
of credits. I took the 6 months -- but now, I've been looking at my
library's audio book downloads & guess what -- every book I was going to buy
I can get for free (some will even let me burn to a CD, others are on a 3
week loan). So, why pay for it at all???
If the Customer rep had let me talk to his boss, or offered to double the
credits to 24, from 12 -- meaning I lost 1 year's worth of $$, I'd have
accepted... but he didn't! And, to make matters worse, on their homepage
they are offering a deal that's nearly 1/2 of what I currently pay-- making
me think more than I have realized that their library is the place to go for
recorded books! Stupid me!!!!

To conclude, AUDIBLE.com is NOT consumer friendly -- USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

credits to 24, from 12 -- meaning I lost 1 year's worth of $$, I'd have
accepted... but he didn't! And, to make matters worse, on their homepage they
are offering a deal that's nearly 1/2 of what I currently pay-- making me think
more than I have realized that their library is the place to go for recorded
books! Stupid me!!!!

To conclude, AUDIBLE.com is NOT consumer friendly -- USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I'm mad as heck at Audible. I got a subscription when I got my MP3 player, 2
years ago. I have listened to tons of books on tape (CD, etc) but mostly I get
them from the library.... silly me, I've payed for this for 2 years, and only
got 2 books... should have about 40+ credits worked up, at $11 / credit, right?
WRONG... only give you 6 months worth... they don't stop charging after 6 months
of non-use!!!
When I called to complain, they offered me 4 months refund, or the 6 months of
credits. I took the 6 months -- but now, I've been looking at my library's audio
book downloads & guess what -- every book I was going to buy I can get for free
(some will even let me burn to a CD, others are on a 3 week loan). So, why pay
for it at all???

The Writing Center IV is officially released. Still not finished and we
are busy to add content as we speak.

For those old-timers who might still remember the previous Writing
Centers, the WC3 ran a forum with categorized fic indexes (small
description of a fic with a link to the fic and a link to the author).
That changed and introduced the wiki-engine for the fics, which was
superior compared withthe forum. The only problem with the wiki was its
speed. It took ages to add 100 fics into the wiki, while working with a
forum, it would mean 1,000 fics.

Anyway, the new Writing Center <http://www.writingcenter4.info/> is up
and running.

     1. The Wiki engine <http://www.writingcenter4.info/> , which carries
the Image galleries
<http://www.writingcenter4.info/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=14>
and the Download Center
<http://www.writingcenter4.info/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=1>
     2. The WC4 Forum <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php> , which
carries the fic indexes
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=2> , community
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=1> , link
directories <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=links> ,
chat rooms <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/chat/index.php> , RPC
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=battle> , Arcade
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=arcade> and
role-playing <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=4>
games. It also carries the wrapper of FicWad fics (at FicWad the search
is not working and the navigation does not exist). Therefore there is
in the WC4 forum a FicWad mirror
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=3>
     3. The HPFanFicArchive.com <http://www.hpfanficarchive.com/> , an
extension of the Writing Center for online reading

The forum is a bit different then normal.

Role Playing Games

In the role-playing forum, people can start 'playing' role playing
games, which are nothing else then an alternative of writing fics,
except with a live public while you write and there is no way to plan
your fic, because real characters are helping you with writing. Today
one role-playing game is strting up; take a look your self. Everyone is
allowed to start such game or simply lurk around! Take a look here
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=4> .

RPC Game "Battle"

A RPC game (Battle) was created with the Harry Potter Universe in mind.
With the Battle game, it was possible that you could attack any person
in the form, who is 'initialized'. The key in this RPC game is money,
money, money, power, money, strength and money! Did I mention money?
Oh, I forgot, there is also Voldemort with his inner circle of Death
Eaters running around somewhere and you might meet them. And there are
also the demons, dementors and other dark creatures. And don't forget
the demons, but I said that already. But I mean the real evil one with
the two horns and tail ... Take a look here
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=battle> .

Note Yesterday during beta-testing, we discovered that there was a small
problem with Voldie and his pact of idiot Death Eaters and their pets
the demons, which I must fix. This is scheduled to be after my
birthday, so tomorrow.

When the RPC game Battle is a success and when you all like it, I can
add more RPC games into the WC4 Forum. I have a RPC Game, which is
based on searching for Horcruxes (multi-player RPC game) and a RPC game
about the final battle (where you fight against the computer
(Voldemort) and his Death Eaters with a team of fighters (you and the
members you can convince to fight with you)).

Arcade games are back!

As a good boy, who never gives up, what ever happens, we have the
comeback of the Arcade games. Take your pick and play what ever you
want. The Arcade games
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=arcade> are
integrated with the Shop
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?action=shop> , the Bank, and
the RPC game. In the WC4 forum, there is a section dedicated for the
Arcade playing (where you can chat with others about the games or
request new or other ones)

Chat

At last the WC4 has a professional Chat module, where it is possible to
chat with multiple people, to choose a channel or to create a private
channel. There is a maximum of 256 people per a channel. Take a look
here <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/chat/index.php> .

Fic Indexes

There is now already a large collection of Fic Indexes (about 4,500 at
the moment), organized in categories (forums) per pairing
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,3.0.html> and Special
Categories <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,6.0.html>
(Azkaban <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,13.0.html> ,
Bashing <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,7.0.html> ,
Crossovers <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,15.0.html>
, Female Slash
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,9.0.html> , big
collection of Harems
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,11.0.html> fics,
Manipulative
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,85.0.html> , Time
Travel <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,84.0.html> and
Titan Boards
<http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php/board,27.0.html> ). The rest
of the categories are coming up in the coming days (like powerful,
dark, evil, battle, Muggles, multi-pairing, etc. I suspect that we have
about 20,000 fics in the WC4 before the end of the month.

Dukedom

Dukedom <http://forum.writingcenter4.info/index.php?category=5> (Mohd)
has his own section in the WC4 forum and he will supply us with his
extended content (and his fics as well). In he section where Dukedom is
located is space for others as well. So, when one of you really want to
have a forum of his or her own, there is still space.

Role-playing

Rile-playing is not a new concept, but it is new for the Writing
Center. Role-playing means as follows:

     1. A person wants to have a role-play and reports it to the
moderators or admin of the WC4. They make for him or her a forum, where
the person is publishing the Universe (describes what the scenario or
situation is) and publishes the characters who play a role in the
Universe
     2. That person allows anyone to become one of those characters and
the role-play starts (mostly by the owner of the role-play game). Such
role-play can be public or private, totally up to the person of the
role-play game.
     3. Each character writes his own part of the role-play and the
purpose is to have fun, but most of all reach the intended target,
defined by the role-play owner.
     4. I will start a role-play game today (19th of July), so you will
all see what it exactly is.

In the coming week, the Image Galleries and Download Center will be
dramatically expanded. I have about 20 Gb of Image material and about
10 Gb of Downloadable HP-fics (including the Erotic Fics).

Magical Spellbooks and Universes are going to be published at the end
of this week in the WC4.

Finally, I like to thank everyone in the Harry Potter community for
their support, several people bought User Groups and access to the
restricted sections of the WC4 and WC4 forum already and for my super
moderators (Blueiceman79, dukedom and qiaoyech).

The old erotic art gallery <http://www.writingcenter4.info/gallery1>
is also there of course, but again, the access is limited for only the
user groups like VIP and higher. I added a 300 new erotic art images to
the gallery.

With this, the preparations of the File-Galleries (the old download
center) and the Image galleries are completed. The coming days I'm
working on the content of the WC4.
The first task of the new WC4 will be the mirror of FicWad, so that you
have an alternative for the navigation of that dreadful and fantastic
site.

And as last, I want to thank many people - coming also from this Yahoo
group - for their contributions. The money received is being invested in
a larger server with larger disk space. Before, the server had 4 Gb of
memory, now it has 8Gb. I included the automated daily backup mechanism
and I upgraded the support contract to be as fast as possible, so in
case there is an accident, it will be restored.

The speed (as you will see) is also much better, but the final tests
will be when we have more then 300 concurrent (at the same time) users
online.

I've been going through Loralee's C2 reading list
for a couple of weeks. There's lots of good stories
there, ones I've read and ones I haven't. There's
lots of really good one shots. Try it out. Here's the
link listed by Add Date.

P.S. Loralee's Stories are great, too.

You're right. I've seen it recommended tons of times--but I've never really
felt the desire to read it. Now I'll need to actually put it in the queue. And
the other recommendation sounds like a good bet also. It's interesting how
certain stories don't appeal to us for a while and then we get tired of what
we've been reading or are just ready to try something new. I found about a year
ago that I just couldn't take really heavy angst anymore. So thanks for
replying even if you thought it would be a wasted rec. It wasn't.

Hopefully Katling will not mind me posting links to other stories in her

You have probably already read it. It is rec'ed quite often. It's called
"Make a Wish" by <a

I am also currently reading another independent Harry story called <a
href=http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4969788/10/Discovery">Discovery</a> by
Potteraholic.
     - A fluke meeting under the strangest circumstances possible leads
Harry Potter on a journey to finding answers that will help shape his
destiny.
Harry Potter - Rated: M - English - Drama/Humor - Chapters: 19 - Words:
134,470 - Reviews: 456 - Updated: 5-25-09 - Published: 4-4-09 - Harry P.
& Daphne G.

This one isn't complete but seems to be updated quite regularly, if you
go by the amount of chapters, the Published date and Updated date.

I don't really care for pairing stories myself. I can't stand the
romantic fluff. Unfortunately, there are too many otherwise good stories
out there that contain it, and good stories that do not contain some
romance are hard to find. While I prefer slash stories, I have only
found a couple that are more than half decent to read. Most stories that
contain romance, be it het or slash, have them acting like sex starved
rabbits. To me, this takes away from the actual story and degrades it. I
think the best HP/DM story I have read would be the Sacrifices Arc by
Lightning on the Wave. So for the most part, I don't read many slash
stories. One really good slash story I was reading had Harry/Dean as the
pairing, but it's been so long since it was updated, I think it's been
abandoned. I can't remember the name of it off hand, but in it, Dean was
a male prostitute in the summer months, until he hooked up with Harry.

My favourite het pairing these days is H/Hr. As someone else on here
said, I knew it was going to be Harry/Ginny from book 1, but the way it
was done was just horrendous. There was no rhyme or reason for it. The
way the characters were written, the pairings just did not make sense.
Hermione would never have gone with Ron, they were just to dissimilar.
He was rude, and no manners, always jealous of his best friend, a bigot
and never really thought of anyone but himself. Conversely, there was no
way that Harry should have fallen for Ginny. From what we saw of Ginny,
she was nothing but a fangirl, the one thing that Harry really despised.
So for those two pairings to come about, there was just no logical sense
to it.

My favourite stories deal with independent Harry. My favourite story in
this category is by an author, that just happens to also be the same
author I really dislike for writing harem stories, and stories that
contain the sex starved rabbit syndrome. Some of his stories I had to
give up reading because of it, which is too bad, because without it, the
story was very good. However, after a while, reading one paragraph of
story and three paragraphs of rabbits got tiring. Especially since he
would occasionally place items pertinent to the actual story in the
middle of the rabbit play.

Yeah, there's not tons there... but most of it's pretty good. Some I'm not that
fond of (to put it mildly), but many are absolute favorites that I recommend
often.

Tell me if you like any of the stories, Liz. I hope so!

There's not a lot there at the moment. A semi-fluffy Harry/Ginny/Luna
oneshot inspired by a Poe poem, four chapters of a fic being overhauled
at the moment for gross cliche overuse, and a somewhat disturbing Luna
oneshot that is a character study for a cross-over with Clive Barker's
'Cabal' that I'm working on.

I have about a dozen plot bunnies nibbling on me at the moment, but they
require that I find both the time and motivation to get my chronically
depressed lazy arse to stay in front of the keyboard for more than a
page at a time. I'm taking a mini-vacation next week, and hope to be
able to get some serious writing time in.

Fanficauthors has been around for quite awhile, but it's exclusive. To post on
that site, you have to be voted on by the current authors (or so a friend of
mine who didn't make it on the site told me). There aren't many authors, but
they are all good (well, to me that's debatable, but overall the quality is
outstanding...) Here's the list of authors & one of their stories, if anyone
wants to know.

whydoyouneedtoknow -- Dangerverse -- Living with Danger (fave)
jbern -- Bungle in the Jungle (fave)
bobmin -- Sunset over Britain (fave)
full penseive -- HP & the Years of rebellion
draco664 -- Apprentice Potter
Viridian (S'tarkan) -- Nightmares of Futures Past (fave)
Lord Dwar -- HP and the Summer of Change (fave)
Kinsfire -- wishful thinking
Jeconais -- white knight, grey queen (fave Harry/pansy)
Ruskbyte -- Backwards Compatible
Ishtar -- Family Values
Abraxan -- The Refiner's Fire (fave)
Copperbadge -- Cartigrapher's Craft (fave)
Aaron St. Vines -- Great Scot, Potter! This is war / Granger Defense (fave)

There's a couple of other authors, I'm getting lazy!

I hope you like these.

It's quite possible that I am being unfair to Ron, as I don't
particularly care for him as a character. I see him as Gryffindor's
answer to Draco Malfoy, just poorer and with a somewhat smaller bigotry
pool (all Slytherins are evil instead of all mudbloods are scum). And
my opinions of the poncey ferret being basically unprintable, that
doesn't bode well for Ron. :) No prejudice against gingers,
particularly given the blazing red patch on MY head, I just don't like him.

However, quoting from 'Philosopher's Stone':

As they jostled their way through a crowd of confused Hufflepuffs, Harry
suddenly grabbed Ron's arm.

"I've just thought -- Hermione."

"What about her?"

"She doesn't know about the troll."

Ron bit his lip.

"Oh, all right," he snapped. "But Percy'd better not see us."

That does not say much for Ron's enthusiasm for helping Hermione, and I
think supports my view that he would have just ignored her if not for
Harry. And given that he was responsible for driving her there in the
first place, combined with the way he acts towards her the next few
years, I like to think Hermione is a smart enough girl to figure it out.
At least until Half-Baked-Plot when she grows boobs and they cut off
the blood supply to her brain, dropping her IQ about a hundred points.
Hey, does anyone have a better explanation for her change of character?

As you might guess from this, I am neither a Ron-Hermione fan or a fan
of the last two books. As always, your mileage may vary.

Well, Hermione certainly wasn't there to see that Ron only
came because Harry guilted him into it -- which I think is a
vastly unfair characterization, truthfully -- and it was
Ron, not Harry, who knocked out the Troll with Wingardium
Leviosa, so if anything, the scene would more support her
seeing Ron, rather than Harry, as a hero.

That said, even at eleven, Harry showed real leadership,
strength of character, and courage -- in short, heroism --
while Hermione saw herself cowering tearfully from the Troll
the boys saved her from.

The only thing in canon I can really see playing into this is Harry's
defense of Hermione from the troll. I don't see Ron as a partner in
this, and doubt Hermione would either, as he was both responsible for
her being in the bathroom in the first place, and only came along
because Harry guilted him into it. That's all I can see in book one
that supports Hermione's 'there's friendship, and bravery, and...' comment.

Other than that, I'd just chalk it up to sloppy writing. The Gods alone
know there are enough examples of THAT to be found across all seven
books! :)

Actually, I was having a discussion with my wife Rose the other week,
and she made an interesting point about both this and the one
male/multiple females relationships found in a variety of cultures. She
pointed out that both of these could quite possibly be tracked back to
limbic hindbrain differences in the genders.

Scrape away a mere 5000 years of 'civilization', and you have over
50,000 years of basic tribal programming. Men are programmed as
hunter/gatherers, providers. Women are programmed as nurturers,
caretakers, the proverbial glue that holds the familial unit, however it
is comprised, together. What that leaves you with is almost a
compulsion in the female gender to 'fix' things to make them work, and a
fundamental belief that those fixes are possible. In extreme cases,
this can lead to an inability to get out of a dangerous situation.

Mind you, she was intrigued when I suggested that this tendency might
also account for the substantial percentage of female authors who are
fascinated with the idea of 'redeeming' Snape/Malfoy. This is a concept
that I freely admit I have never understood. I've read a number of
well-written discussions on why the writers see them as 'tragic heroes'
or the equivalent, but all I've ever seen in support of it is to start
with the theory that they are 'good', and twist the facts to support the
theory, rather than derive a theory from the facts. Intentional or not,
Rowling provided little to no tangible evidence that supports the
redemption theory. I'm going to stop here before this turns into a
'shipping thing', which was not my intent, merely to show how one
concept could lead into the other.

In our discussion, we also posited that this could apply as well to the
female side of the multiple relationships. In addition to the 'me alpha
male, me impregnate many women' male side, you have the situation with
two or more women able to provide support, both physical and emotional,
to one another. This shows the dynamic as a bit less one-sided than it
appears at first glance.

I tend to write Harry/multiple female partners, but by and large limit
it to two female partners, three at the most. Having personal
experience with the multiple-partner dynamic, I know that the difficulty
in balancing it goes up exponentially for each person you add to it. A
large part of the rationale behind my doing so is that Harry is so
fundamentally damaged by his upbringing, that he will never be able to
provide emotional support at the same level that he requires it. Adding
a third player to the balance allows for the support load to be spread
out. I recognize that Harry/female/male partner would also be
theoretically possible, but I disregard it for three reasons. First,
since the majority of the abuse he suffers at an early age comes from
Vernon and Dudley, I find it hard to accept the idea of Harry being
emotionally open around another male. Secondly, I'm heterosexual and
can't relate to it on a personal level. Both of these probably account
for my general indifference to Slash!Harry, and my active distaste for
pairing Harry with an abusive personality like Snape or Draco. Thirdly,
my own experience, both personal and social, is with single male/dual
female, and I'm a proponent of 'write what you know'.

I only have one story in the works with a true 'harem' number of
partners, Harry and nine females. However, only two of the women will
be his primary partners sexually, a third as a strong secondary, and the
other six's sexual interactions with Harry will be largely relegated to
reproductive only, their primary 'partner' relationships will be as
three couples. However, all ten of them will form a familial unit, in
terms of non-sexual support. I expect to be at least another year on
the development side of this one, as the historical and background
research is proving to be a job and a half!

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth on this topic. Your mileage may vary.

Jay,

I take you at your word that you believe in male and female equality.
Unfortunately, that's not what most of us experience in day-to-day life, and
it's certainly not what women experienced in, say, ancient Persia.

I debated a lot over posting this, but in the end, I've got to take my cue from
your stated beliefs. If I ignore the statements you're making -- whether
they're the statements you intended to be making or not -- then I'm giving in to
that societal coercion :P So let's take a crack at overcoming it, shall we? ;)

> I think you misunderstand. Societal coercion makes suicide bombers too not
saying it is not a strong influence but it is not one that cannot be overcome
either.

I'm going to take a wild guess, and if I'm wrong, I apologize for jumping to
conclusions. If I'm right, well... maybe you'll believe that your privilege is
showing.

My guess is that you're a straight white male of at least nominally Christian
background, raised solid working class or better. That is to say, not a member
of an oppressed class...

> Also in a western society you lose as much control as you cede to someone else
be it parents, government, criminals, terrorist, lovers or whoever.

...because the thing is, by committing the unforgivable offense of being born in
an oppressed class, people have ALREADY "ceded" control. Yeah, many of them go
on to cede more, but simply by virtue of being brown or female or disabled or
poor, they ALREADY have a power deficit, so it's more a matter of how much
strength and support they have to take some back, than of how much they choose
to cede.

> Self determination is a matter of will. Always has been, why despots succeed
really, not enough people have the will to oppose them generally so they
succeed awhile until a few organize and focus their will.

What you appear to be saying: anyone who allows others to oppress them is at
fault. (ie "she shouldn't have worn that short skirt")

I see where you're coming from. I do. But the whole problem with being
oppressed is that it's difficult -- sometimes impossible -- to see outside that,
and even if you can, the "choices" you have just give you two evils from which
to pick the lesser. (Hint: most of the time, oppressed people don't have the
luxury to choose to fight for a principle, because they are kind of busy just
trying to survive within the system.)

> Of course all that could be complete crap as I lack the empathy/capacity to
understand why an abused spouse returns to the abuser despite people begging
them not to and providing support systems for them to begin rebuilding their
lives.

Then perhaps you'd benefit from learning a bit more about the phenomenon. It
won't explain your troop, necessarily, as he's male himself, but I'd start with
the concept of "male privilege."

> In my Harems i have taken an ordinary-ish guy and thrown him in with lots of
ordinary-ish girls. The dominance struggle really happens in two dimensions,
between the girls to dominate each other and then him (Though not physically)
and his struggle to protect defend them therefore leading to him dominating
society or parts of it.

To clarify: fiction is fantasy, and so you can handwave male privilege and this
can be true. Kind of how a lot of slashfic tends to handwave homophobia, for
example, and everybody is thrilled that Harry and
(Snape/Draco/Fred/George/Charlie/Ron/Krum/Hagrid/whomever) are getting married
and they have a big white wedding and so forth. This is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT
DYNAMIC than real-life harems in ancient times. (And yes, as in your other
post, a harem might provide a better life than marriage to Sir Clyde, but you're
still ascribing consent to women who don't have the freedom or autonomy to give
it.)

> The hawt wimmins crowd are my fiercest reviewers castigating me over my weak
Harry being "run" by the girls, as he annihilates large percentages of those
opposing him.

See, this is that awesome subversion-of-tropes thing I was talking about
yesterday :)

> It’s entertaining to read their reviews. Someday I should post a compendium
of them

I bet it would be horrible for my blood pressure, but I'd certainly read it ;)

I think we may be having a disconnect over the concept of "allegory," because
you're both disagreeing on semantics :) Maybe we could agree on "metaphor" or
"allusion"? They're different from allegory, but perhaps clearer to see. What
I was trying to express is that Harry symbolically references Christ, not that
he IS ACTUALLY Christ... and that Dumbledore, as Harry's mentor/father-figure
and, in a larger sense, the "chessmaster" of the Wizarding World, has parallels
to the big guy in the sky.

The representation is not exact -- that wouldn't make for a good story, much
less a realistic one, because the characters ARE human. Dumbledore isn't
infallible (although many, many people appear to view him as such) and Harry is
flawed and none-too-thrilled by his past and his destiny. That doesn't change
the fact that, if you treat the Bible as literature, and line up the story of
Jesus and the story of Harry Potter, they share a number of narrative elements.

I suppose I could have compared him to any other life-death-rebirth god, but the
Christian God is the one with personal relevance to JKR and thus the one with
the most similarities. Regardless, my saying HP is a Christian allegory, or
drawing parallels, does not in any way imply that Harry and/or Dumbledore ARE
God. It's symbolism and metaphor -- no more, no less.

This is all just a long convoluted explanation of, in my opinion, one of the
failures of the piece, particularly as regards the Epilogue. Upthread, Karen
had commented on Harry's naming his son "Albus Severus," and the implications of
such, and I stepped into these dangerous waters to give my perspective on why it
