Band expanders are just a quick fix and actually cause us significant problems with the radiation of signals in other bands and mixing problems.  They also reduce sensitivity quite markedly meaning that we all miss out on coverage.

 

DAB is still the best thing going for the future despite the large capital investment.  I can hardly wait for the first "commercial" DAB service, purely to see how long it takes for a "shoestring" version to pop up run by people with a more community-minded philosophy.

Yes, you mught advantage the owners of radios designed for the Japanese domestic market.

But you then disadvantage the owners of radios designed for the New Zealand domestic market.

And afterall, which country do we live in?

The next big change to radio will be the adoption of DAB, or satellite broadcasting - both way in the future because of the costs.
