I've found what is arguably the best
AGC/compressor/st-expander/limiter available for Winamp.

It's called Sound Solution (see
http://www.tmsweb.dnsalias.com/SoundSol.htm) and works with Winamp 5.

I don't use Winamp, instead I use a professional radio automation
software package, but I'm aware that a lot of operators in this group
use Winamp as a playout system so I thought I'd share this with you.

It took me well over an hour (almost two hours actually) to tweak it
exactly how I like it and for it to sound good for FM broadcast with
pop music.

It's not easy to use unless you have some knowledge of audio
compression (I'm talking dynamics processing here, not format
compression like MP3!) but if you know what you're doing it's an
extremely powerful tool. It can make any small station sound just
like the "big guys".

If you try it out but can't get it sounding right, I'm happy to share
with you the settings that I use. Might save you an hour or two of
work :)
