Well My compressor/ Limiter is even simpler that that.
It uses 0% cpu bogomips.
I use an old stereo Sharp VC386 video circa 1984. It is quite effective from
+3db down to -10db. I just switch the audio switch on it to Auxilary input.
And feed the signal in an out of the old video via the 5 pin din plug on it.
The video can't play tapes anymore but the Audio quality is beaut. You'd
probably get someone asking you to take it away. :-)
