For controlling external devices from the automation software via the LPT parallel port or serial ports. In the StationPlaylist software, we use the LPT port and can set up to 8 pins high or low in voltage by scheduling codes in the playlist to occur at specific times. An external device detects this as open or closed, and can trigger any number of things. It's mostly used to switch things like mixers or consoles to a different audio input, perhaps 2 or more different satellite feeds. Our software can open the line-in port for a fixed duration to take the audio from line-in before continuing with the playlist as usual.
Mark was wanting this facility to switch the transmitter on & off at different times.
