The MPX will only operate on a 192KHz sample rate card in order to get (divide the sample rate by two) 96KHz bandwidth out a single channel on the sound card. 96KHz sampling on cards (the majority of 24 bit ones)isn't quite enough either at only 48KHz of audio bandwidth since I think FM is around 53KHz wide.
After John released the first free processor a few days ago I immediately thought of you guys so thought I'd subscribe back up and let you know about it. It's designed though for cards with ASIO drivers, not standard windows WDM drivers etc... This way it reduces latency and controls the cards audio level directly rather than via the windows mixer which can ad some chunkyness to the level controls etc...
It will run on 16bit ASIO drivers in 48KHz mode, which just offers normal audio bandwidth processing without the MPX feature. I don't think Sonos II is a directx plugin. The older MBL4 plugin for sonos also came as a directx plug-in, however the newer Sonos II is a stand alone application (server and tcp/ip client) which can also encode aac and mp2 etc... to a shoutcast server. BTW, if you're PC's not grunty enough or you don't have a sound card etc.. to use Sonos II, download the older Sonos programme (which doesn't come with multiband anymore) but it does have a simple wideband AGC and limiter etc.. with pre-emphasis processing if you ever need a basic processor.
Yes I've had a look at sound solution a few times, however I find it very tricky to get the exact sound I want. Once I had the mbl4 plugin before it was completely discontinued I was sold on John's programming. He was invovled with coding the Inovonics Omega FM units I believe. He also has a simple streaming player available aswell as a winamp substitute with RMS/Peak level display and plays teh audio slower as it buffers to prevent more silent gaps in bad congestion etc...
Many Winamp and StationPlaylist broadcasting software users use this plugin.
RMS or Peak based settings, Gated AGC, Independent settings for 5 bands adjusting the ratio, threshold, attach, release, and even has a band gain so you can boost one band over another, like an equalizer. You can configure different settings for the compressor, expander, and limiter for all 5 bands. It has adjustable band linking, and a 2 band final limiter with a clipper control, and I believe this is look ahead clipper so no flat top distortion.
It has a 15khz frequency limiter and preemphasis at 50 or 75uS. But it doesn't have an MPX generator.
But I'm interested in where I can download the Sonos free DSP. Is it a DirectX DSP?
Regards,
Ross.
