LAST FOLLOW UP: DAB & HD Radio - presentation/demonstration and an
interesting article on MountainsideFM FYI

To all LPFM people
==================

At the DAB & HD Radio presentation/demonstration tomorrow evening
(Tuesday 11th December 2007), here are some of the questions I put to
our guests in advance, being some of the things that we think those
who come along will want to know about, in addition to a demonstration:

- an overview of the technology
- see it in action
- use of the spectrum... how does the digital aspect open up the
spectrum... explain the 3, or is it 6 digital channels riding on the
same carrier as the analogue signal
- bandwidth considerations
- does this mean that we are to have even more proliferation of radio
broadcasts in what already seems to be a saturated market?
- differences, pros and cons in the apparently two competing
technologies (DAB and HD Radio). Which one might prevail or are we going
to see both take a market share? Is this going to become another Blue
Ray vs HDVD type battle in the marketplace (which is not really
benefiting the consumer)?
- how do you see the market place leasing the digital channels to would
be broadcasters?
- does it mean the death of LPFM?
- what do you think is the Government's position on the technology?

and from Ray Mankelow:

>I think you've got it covered Peter. How does reality match up with
>speculation on what the Government might do, or want to do.

For those of you who plan to come along tomorrow night, we look
forward to seeing you there.

Looking in from Oz, are you guys serious about taking Kiwiland towards IBOC HD when everyone else in the region is going DAB+ with maybe some DRM thrown in?...

AM stereo using C-Quam is actually a very good form of stereo broadcasting. Shame it never took off. The receivers never really made it here, and as a result...

No it didn't increase the frequency range. But it's nothing like telephone frequencies. AM is around 40hz to 10khz, where telephone is around 300hz to 3khz....
