TLC radio is quite a good concept-at least its a start to provide alternative formats in Auck since FM Country went off the air abeit its low power which is lost over the Manakau hill on the motorway(for good) and wont penetrate north of Ellerslie
Other formats needed in the "boring AK market" is decent oldies(not the repetative solid gold type with now an 80's and worse 90's slant) also a decent dance station(Red is satisfactory for that-however but doesn't extend its signal well due to Tainui).
We have plenty of Top40/R&B formats here so something else is required here.
I think you will find that a lot of new players get in there car and tune in to
a frequency, hear nothing on it and say great a spot I can use without thinking
about who else might be just 0.1 away.
I'm sure that's what happened to me. I was forced to drop but 0.1 to clean my
signal up. Even now I've lost a large amount of coverage.

There is no obligation to bid at the next auction.... and even if someone bids against you ... you have to option to match or better it
That was the case with the first ever tender, I believe, but ever since, there are no additional rights at all in favour of the frequency applicator (if that is the right expression).
True, Ross. What I meant was as an open internet auction you can see the other bids...

Parliament are making these decisions in april. It is before them at the moment. All will be revealed then, we hope. It impacts on me too... operating a temporary frequency.
Will we see an auction early next year? Will they offer 20 watt licenses in the guardband? There are a lot of 10 and 20 watt licences in the spectrum now.. what happens to them?
Why not identify a frequency at 10 or 20 watts in your area... file a radio 100 and then have the protection of no interference...
Come the auction... you can bid or go to the guardband again... its up to you..
Seems defeatist to just give up... if the problem is other operators blasting your signal out... why not make it so they can't and go to a 10 watt in the spectrum? There is no obligation to bid at the next auction.... and even if someone bids against you ... you have to option to match or better it..... or simply go back to the guardband... you have lost nothing.....
Does anyone know who is broadcasting on 88.3 in Wellington? This is really the nail in our coffin as we already have someone on 88.5 (illegally). We're stuck in the middle on 88.4 and our signal has been completely obliterated. We've just managed to organise the best possible tx site for low power in wellington and now there is no point in using it. I am soooo frustrated and disapointed at having to give up like this after 7 years of trying to run radio stations and loosing tens of thousands of dollars along the way.
You guys who have coverage are very lucky. I was green with envy listening to the low power stations in Nelson (and elsewhere)...

Why not let it go Dean? I mean, let it go and put some real thought and effort into planning for the 106.7 - 107.3 frequencies when they become licensed ones?
Seems to me you're running a loosing battle, as will be others in built-up areas around the country. From previous communications in this group, it would seem apparent that in the not-to-distant future the high end will be stripped clean, so licenses can be issued - licenses up to 20 watts!
Might be a good idea to quit now, to secure the future of Groove?
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Bryan

Radio Hauraki once upon a time was a great station but like all the rest its repetative /non local like the rest so in the S Island you not missing much.
Michael
Isn't it interesting that Radio Hauraki whenever I have listened is Computer Generated, for those in the South Island it's now owned by the Radio Network, Classic Rock Music, transmitting in most of the larger North Island Towns.
Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tax Center - forms, calculators, tips, and more
No Announcer just pre-recorded Announcements, when
I have listened Ross.
I see. How do you know the announcements are pre-recorded? Don't mention
the time or weather I guess. You may find only the breakfast show is live.
They must not be making a million dollars a week for the overseas owners.
Subject: Re: [LPFM] Even Radio Hauraki( Classic Rock) is Automated from a Computer.
I would say there are very few stations in the world that are not automated in some way. What do you mean?
Cheers, Ross.
