Hi folks. There seems to be a wide spread problem in New Zealand
with the arrival of the March programs. Please email me and let me
know if/when you receive the programmes. Two stations were returned
to us by New Zealand Postal service. One with an address issue
which we have resolved, and another for no apparent reason.

Our Canadian, US, and Australian affiliates all received their CDs
already. Sorry for the delay. We have not had this problem before.

Cheers,

Marc Baum

We've been dancin with the devil a wee bit and got a few sponsors to pay
for advertising and the sound rig. Also the council had to pay for all of
our posters to be reprinted because they double booked us for the gig.

All the bands are playing for free and we will be selling wares on the day
to raise some pingers.

Weather is looking a bit shady for the weekend... bit of a worry. It will
be sweet though... just you wait.

Fleet FM 88.3 Presents "Keep Off The Grass"

A free outdoor concert in Auckland this Sunday at Tahaki Reserve at the
bottom of Mt. Eden as an attempt to raise funds for a new transmitter.

Originally the gig was on Saturday but the council double booked so it is
now on this Sunday the 29th.

Bands and DJ's will be playing throughout the day and short films will be
played when it gets dark. It starts at 2 and goes till 10. The bands
playing are mainly reggae and jazz. There will be stalls selling
everything from food to clothes. The bands are called The Mercenaries,
Roots Conductor, Freaky Meat, Mr. Pink and Flying Squad. Some of the DJ's
are DJ KBounce (Japan), P-Lee, Natural Disasters.

It will be broadcast live to air for the day time.

Fleet FM 88.3 is a non profit, non commercial station that has been
running since July of last year. It is run by a group of 70 music
enthusiasts. It has no ads and all types of music. Our coverage area is
central Auckland area (Mt Eden, Kingsland, Sandringham, Grey Lynn etc) but
we are trying to raise money for a new transmitter so we can increase our
coverage area. More details are on the website... www.fleetfm.co.nz

Hope to see you there,

Jamie

We are going to have a HUGE New Zealand Launch of our new program,
Blades Of Blue: THE Homegrown Bluegrass show. The program will air
on 14 stations across the nation, and the March debut is the
worldwide debut, followed by the US debut in April! Thanks to all
in New Zealand who give these independent musicians from around the
world a chance to SHINE!

Of course, if you still want to get the program, be sure to become
an affiliate and receive the weekly 1 hour (54 min) broadcast via CD
at no cost to the station!

Have a GREAT February,

What I was after was a demo of the actual show. Not necessarily 4
hours worth! An hour would suffice. You mention they are to start
airing on March 1st I think?

I'm interested in the content mix of music and voice. ie - are there
breaks where DJs chat about artists etc or is it just a mix set with
no talking whatsoever.

I'm lead to believe there is significant material presented by the
host/s that is relevant to the weekend aired. I also recall that if a
station was to repeat a show - it would be wise to present it as such
by way of liner etc.

This is what I needed to hear, and as such, will decide the timeslots
we may eventually air the show.

I will check the 'Good stuff' online next week, as we have our
national holiday tomorrow.

kia ora,

R.

The 30 Minute promo of the show gives you more then
enough information on what The Mixdown is programming
every week.

As you can possibly imagine since the show is free,
providing a full 4 hour demo is quite expensive. We
are trying to keep costs down as much as possible.

How ever if anyone would like to get more than just
the "30 minute promo" we do have audio links online
for immediate review. www.themixdown.com and choose
the audio remote option on the left menu.

Hi Graham

I got my mixdown package last week, and realise its not a demo of the
show, rather a 30 minute promo for the show. I have to email Dwayne
back and ask to be sent an actual show on CD - so we know exactly
what we can expect when the show is on air.
He sent my pack on the 22nd of Jan and I got it on the 29th.

cheers bigears!

Hello Murray,
By definition, the repeat button on a CD player should make continuous music alright. Some players have the facility to select a playlist from the tracks, and in repeat mode the player will only play these tracks. Sony have a very cheap CD personal stereo out at the moment, it's about 70 Euro here, it plays MP3's and it will repeat all the tracks on the playlist. This means you can repeat 200+ tracks, nifty if you are in the market for a continuous music source.

Hi there

I have been asked by UniTec and Massey University Albany in Auckland to assist with setting up radio stations on each campus.

As I am not an Auckland resident I thought I would ask you avid radio boffs out there about frequency availability in each area near each campus - can anyone give me a rundown of who is where so we can avoid possible conficts

Thanks

To stop other people from using the band? (Which is, now, illegal).
Because the transmitter is located remotely, there is a technical problem and
they can't or can't be bothered fixing it. Either way, someone else could
probably put it to better use...

Are you sure they're broadcasting silence?

they might have a CD playing "The sound of one hand clapping" and have
it on repeat

In which area? Hawera? (joking)

In Otahuhu/Papatoetoe there is an operator broadcasting silence on
88.1. It used to operate as Voice Of Samoa. I am unsure if they are
the culprits but its there nonetheless. I ask, what is the point of
broadcasting silence?
