Planning a Hamilton launch are you Matt?

I believe George FM are on 107.3 Jochen, and are Smack FM in Cambridge
still on air on 88.4?

I have a friend in Hamilton looking into it tonight.

May I ask if it will be the same station simulcast or separate stations?  If simulcast, how are you getting the audio to each TX?

Cheers,
Ross.

Dunno, but I know the other day when I was there I heard a 107.35 oldie
music station, and noted they were not on an allocated LPFM frequency -
so if they're listening - they should be 107.3 or 107.4 but not 107.35

Hello all,

The MED has released an Engineering Discussion Document
entitled 'Short Range Devices'.

It considers changes to regulations on spectrum allocation to provide
for evolving applications in a number of spectrum bands.

The executive brief indicates that it will be of interest to those
involved in, amongst others, FM broadcasting.

You should read the document to determine whether the discussion
document affects you and whether you wish to make a submission on the
matter

The discussion document is found at:

I note that you say that TLC Radio was once heard and enjoyed in Panmure.

Well, we are still on 107.7 just the transmission from UP FM on 107.6 is
causing a large amount of interference to our signal especially out towards
Panmure and Mt Wellington, but also to the south of us as well.

Their signal has reduced us to mainly the Otahuhu area, and even then there are
patches of Otahuhu that they override us.

There is no way of telling just how many listeners we have lost because of
their signal, but I am pleased to know that we WERE being enjoyed through
Panmure and hopefully if we can resolve the interference problem with UP FM we
will once again be heard and enjoyed in Panmure as well as all the other areas
that we have lost to them

Hi Folks ... I have just looked into this group and thought I had
better introduce myself.

We are using 88.2 with our mast on top of the Mt Wellington Panmure
RSA. This site would be the highest around this part of Auckland
unless we could have found a way to have it on top of Mt Wellington.

We have only started to broadcast up to full strength (Mono) since
Monday after the instalation of compressor / limiter and digital
ultimizer.
We are still getting things adjusted to quality output .. I have been
amazed by the number of phone calls I have received from Otahuhu
residents saying how much they are enjoying our playlist. Not
surprised at people enjoying our playlist :-) .. but surprised how our
transmission is having such a clean entry into that territory.

It may suprise some of you .. most of our airwaves crowding in and
around Panmure is coming from Devonport. It absolutly swamps the 88.2
around Marua Road and Abbots Way and parts of the Panmure Ellerslie
Highway.

TLC once was easily heard and enjoyed in and around Panmure when it
was on 107.7. The Papatoetoe easy listening broadcast has always been
available in Panmure if close to the river.

If anyone has a problem with our transmission please telephone me ..
after all I have been asking for feed back every 20 minutes and giving
our telephone number .. I notice someone suggesting we are
over-modulating and saying that someone should do something about ..
maybe if he telephoned me instead of griping on this NG that could be
a small step to help having a more harmonious existence between low
power broadcasters..

We have done everything to be legal and considerate to other
broadcasters. I listened and checked the 88.2 for three weeks before
tuning onto it and before having the transmitter and antenna fully
optimised by Steve Fogerty just to that frequency.

Devonport Flea power into and around the edge of Panmure does not
concern us as the mountain is keeping that broadcast out of our target
area. Being Panmure, Pakuranga, Mt Wellington and GI .. Otahuhu was
not on our list .. but we will take it, if our signal from its high
platform is arriving there with some strength. :-)

Nice to meet you all ... I hope we can work together .. I am quite
happy to become a member of the LPFM, if someone tells me how.

Anyone know who has started using 107.7 today?

I'm now getting a stereo signal playing what sounds like pop music just
north of the harbour bridge, and in some areas in the CBD.

Yeh, I got that too on the other side on 107.4 (I am temporarily on
107.3 in the Middlemore area). The ole thump thump from interference
does grate on you.

Here's another one for the burner:

107.1 in Otahuhu is something called 'Radio Fardoh' or a name that is
phonetically spelt that way. They are overmodulating like crazy
splattering right down to 106.85 (until KFM 106.9 started a week ago)
and upward to 107.55. I appreciate their (Radio Fardoh) idea, but not
the execution. To make matters worse, their carrier drifts and causes
further unwanted emissions on neighbouring frequencies. Oh, and it's
the same frequency as ApnaFM, so we get that too over the top. The
good old guardband huh.. What is it good for?

As for the new 88.2 in Otahuhu, I think it may be the same operator
who runs the old-time/country 107.4 (also in Otahuhu somewhere) albeit
the 88.2 is overmodulated and the 107.4 is the opposite.. very very quiet.

It's just another thing for the LPFM soc. to deal with. My warmest
regards to all those bastard operators who continue to break the
rules. Cold cuts for you one day. One day my friend.

Rich.

I've been getting a lot of pressure from listeners to do something about the
"annoying noise" that is interfering with our signal from UP FM.

Has the LPFM soc. got any closer to defining a disputes process so we can
finally get an authoritative resolution to this matter.

I've even had listeners suggest that if they have to put up with the thump
thump thumping could they at least change the CD once in a while.

I have, in deference to the society, not proceeded with alternative action but
if there isn't a formal disputes procedure in place before much longer I will
have no alternative but to revert to the originally planned course of action.

Sorry if this seems a little blunt, but I'm sure you can understand my
frustration here.

May I suggest that that the power out of the transmitter really is *not* the point. The loss of the feed line surely must be taken into account.

If you have a reasonable length of RG58 coax, for example, then you will need a hell of a lot more power to achieve the limit of 500mW EIRP. 1 watt in this situation will probably not be enough power!

See message 2713 and following for some discussion on the matter.

Gawrsh yez think blowhole are bold boys? We got the knock on the door from
the department of communications last week, they said either close it down
or they would be back with a warrant and they would take every bit of gear
and strip of wire we had. Bastards. we are only running a CTE 250 watter
into a few bayed yagi's, miserable gits.

Shouldnt matter... from most of auckland cbd you can see the skytower with 88.6
on it at a gazigga-watt output, and still get fleet fm fine..

I would say they are overmodulating or you have a shitty tuner. The comment
about guessing on an analog tuner makes me think its the latter...

88.4, why?

I had a phone call from RSM today and they will be phoning Blowhole today and
visiting in the next 2 weeks.  Blowhole are actually using 106.4 not 106.7.  I was guessing with my analogue tuner but verified with a digital.

I was surprised they interfere so much being separated by 600khz.  Probably due to the fact I can see the building where the signal comes from about 2km away, and at 80 watts.

Not yet.  I discovered yesterday that there is no resident RSM officer here anymore.  Hamilton is the closest and they cover a large area.  I've emailed Wellington but I'm not sure how fast this is going to be resolved.
