Entirely likely.

Yep, 0.1 MHZ spacing in the same broadcast area just does not work.

Does it not matter how much money the people you may be interfering
with have spent?

That would be a great idea. You must have not read message number
2795 in this group.

That would seem to indicatate that you may be able to work in with
the existing broadcasters in the area.

Bagging people just does not help anyone.
Please contact me if you want to become involved with The Society of
Low Power FM Broadcasters Incorporated, which, I am happy to say is
now a legal entity as of last week. The Society is a group of people
with an interest in preserving the freedom we have to broadcast in
the guard band. This is a freedom which can be removed very quickly
if RSM/MED/The Government deem it to be appropriate.

I wasn't thinking about Patea and Te Kuiti - I was thinking about Mt
Eden, Kingsland, Pt Chevalier and St Heliers/Mission Bay.

Just curious...

Dubber, ours was purely a commercial interest for ease of transport
for our students! We looked into areas such as Manakau and the north
shore but found rents cheaper in the city!!!In fact we pay less for
leased office space in Queen street Auckland than we do in a
industrial area of Porirua Wellington for the same size floor
space!!!!crazy!!
If there is anyone here who would like to contact us to talk on the
phone regarding our situation than please email a phone number to my
personal address above and I will return your call.
Maybe the 107.1 is the better option for us rather than 106.7!!
suggestions!!!!!
Thanks for the input so far, again all I can stress is that we want to
work with people not against them!!

new operators?

The band is cramped, that's not where people listen to the radio
generally speaking anyway, and your coverage is hampered on all sides
by tall buildings and valleys and ridges. It's also a bugger for
targetting audiences.

Go out of the inner city, your signal can go far further, and you tend
to get people with time on their hands who all have common interests
and reasons to listen to a local LPFM station.

Cheers,

Dubber

Dave hinted that an existing station might be purchased, not the frequency.  Though, unless the buyer is wanting the same listenership with the same genre of music, a purchase is really just a payment to terminate broadcasting, as I see it.  It may include the broadcasting equipment and/or transmission site as well I guess.

You're saying: you think you will not cause interference to CBFM or
Jack FM despite broadcasting in the SAME frequency within 1km of the
others transmitters.

You cannot purchase LPFM frequencies, you cannot purchase any licensed
frequencies in Auckland. This ain't the countryside.

Please consult with the group further to attain a better frequency in
the CBD (which, is only 1km in length and half that in width). We've
had very hairy problems before with new operators and can deal with it
sensibly.

APNA pretty much have no coverage of the bottom end of queen st, due to
their transmitter being back up on Khyber Pass.

I would think that if you made sure you were transmitting at an
appropriate power level (probably quite a bit less than 500mw in this
case), you could get coverage of that area without actually interfering
with APNA.

Im looking for sme advice from members of the Auckland LPFM group.
Jack FM is broadcasting on 106.7 from Queen street. Now im informed
that we may be causing troubles to cbfm and this may will cause us
problems.
We dont wish to cause problems for anyone on this group and took
advice from an Auckland operator who said this would be of no problem
to go on to this frequency. We were also told that we could go on
107.1 but I believe APNA is on this.We have been advised as well to
go on a frequency in between two stations, but I know the results of
this as well for those on either side.
I know the correct response is that there is not enough room for all
of these stations and that there is no room for us but this is not an
option having spent in excess of $70,000 on two fully equiped on air
training stations(one broadcasting on the net only).
We sent along a representative of our Buisness to the first Auckland
meeting but wern't aware that we had missed the second one which we
would like to be a part of.
We dont want to do anything more than broadcast to the bottom of Queen
St with a direction aerial for our Radio Students to gather on air
experience and reality.
Myself being based in Wellington makes it hard to gather all the info
we get and get it right in Auckland.
As a training establishment we have existed for 11 years now and
having been broadcasting in Wellington on the Guardband without
problems since its introduction
I dont wish to cause a thread where everyone bags us,more a
discussion on if we can find a solution.
Many thanks for your time.

Jack FM has started broadcasting as of last wednesday on 106.7 ,around 100
metres from sky tower from the top of a 15 story building on Queen Street. So
that may also cause the pegasus plan troubles as well.

Question: Would the content provider have needed to OK this relay - or
what?
Just interested.

Bring it on

LPFM frequencies and transmitters are aeffectifly (bloddy typewriter)

the CBD

The Auckland CBD isn't 2km wide.

Except that when they're in the exact same area, on the exact same
frequency, you won't hear anything except static and interference.

When we will people learn that its also in their OWN best interests to
choose a frequency with nobody on it... unless you WANT your station to
be a mess of static and fuzz.

Except that you've already admitted that you know that CBFM is
broadcasting on 106.7, from less than a km from the skytower. (ie, IN THE
CBD!)

The Auckland CBD isn't 2km wide.

Dave,

You're using simple, familiar words and crafting them into concise
sentences - but you're not making any sense.

Are you saying that you don't believe that CBFM is broadcasting on
106.7FM in the Auckland CBD?

For the benefit of slow learners such as myself, could you please
explain what you plan to do, where you plan to do it, and what steps
you have taken to ensure that your activities won't interfere with
existing operators?

Much appreciated,

Dubber

refers to the frequency - or for your convenience, you can see the

Righty then... I can only assume that you're only interested in pissing
off CBFM, rather than having your station heard, since neither station
will have any coverage at all?

Dave,

Before you begin transmitting, PLEASE please come along to one of the LPFM
meetings, or at least get in contact with us and talk this over.

The society exists largely because of the squabbles over CBD frequencies
between people who weren't talking to each other... Almost everyone else
is now involved, and it's proving to be a much better way to resolve
things, or at least get people talking.

Last time people started transmitting over the top of other people
(knowingly), lawyers got involved, and it became a VERY expensive process.

You've admitted that you know CBFM is also transmitting on 106.7 in the
CBD... please work with us to try and find a better frequency if possible,
or better location if not possible.

EVERYONE needs to be aware that just because the GURL says that you can
start up a station on any frequency, various law suits have proven that
its not that simple, and the right of prior use does indeed seem to count
for something.

Many people are under the impression that because no licence is required,
that LPFM frequencies are an unlimited resource. This simply isn't true,
and in parts of NZ, there just aren't any left... starting new stations
just reduces the effectiveness of all parties (Especially when you're both
on the exact same freqency, in the exact same physical area - That will
just result in really bad coverage for both parties!), and increases the
squabbles and fights, which is just what will make the RSM pull the whole
GURL.

Radio Pegasus,

Get in touch with Mike Baker (he lurks here), as you have not done
your homework. 106.7 in the CBD is CBFM matey, so your first in first
served idea would scrap your plans in Auckland's CBD.

Cheers

R.

I think with all LPFM its a case of first in first served... if no one is
using a frequency and it is a legal frequency... I'd say go for it.
