Nope. You made an assumption that we're 'behind the play'. It's dangerous to

Nah man.. Me and my mate Matt Anderson are doing this free of charge to help out NZ Music Month.

But If you would like to support us, you could purchasing some Station Imaging from us, check out http://sweeps.lfmonline.org

We get the music of the Kiwi Hit Discs from NZ On Air. If you can get us some good songs and permission, Im sure we could do some "NZ Music Beats" for them.

Regards,

Those clips sound quite good.

PPNZ do not have an online database of the numbers on the CD spines. They
can be quite different from the UPC and EAN numbers etc... on the front or
back covers usually copied and gif'ed on the Internet so you can't read them
anyway.

Yes APRA have works search for composer/publisher, but PPNZ don't for their
part. The easiest way for them is the number on the CD spine that it comes
off to figure the rest out. You'll be fimiliar with this in order to be
copying audio anyway. Otherwise when other licensed stations file where the
audio comes from and are not licensed themselves... then sh#$ hits the fan.

For those who do pay their fee and do reporting, it's harder when dealing
with those that don't. That's the biggest obsticle I've found with LPFM that
do file reports, and is always a big topic. If you take another live
broadcast you simply include that stations details in the report, and APRA
use their report when they file it, or go door knocking if they're not
license. With downloaded shows, the details need to be provided to start
with since the end broadcaster will need to file all the details in
accurately, unless the provider is filling a syndicated type report so other
stations don't need to on the details of music and production material used
on the show. Otherwise they still need a license to copy the material first.

Gavin.

Hi Guys

My mate and I started a few months back a feature called "The NZ Music Beat".

We use the songs of the NZ Kiwi Hit Discs, it tells you a little bit about that band followed by the song. We currently play it on 3 LPFM stations, I thought some of you guys might want to also get involved by playing the beats on your station aswell.

Below is 3 Links for our latest NZ Music Beats, heaps more coming in the next couple of days as its NZ Music Month!

The Bleeders - Nightmares:

More Coming Soon... Let me know your feedback.

Hi Everyone,

Without the want of sounding boring - I would check with Mark first before anyone broadcasts the audio, if in fact you were. Mark is our corp voice here and I know there are marketplaces which have exclusive rights to his voice being broadcast.

It actually arrived as a BIN file.  Managed to figure out what it was and converted it to an mp3 so it could be uploaded.  You might need to hack it a bit as I did for use on Heaven FM but I figured it was best to upload it in unedited format.  Thanks heaps to Bryce for offering it to the group – perhaps he knows more about its origins.

Actually the edit at 11 seconds is terrible. He says ...Listen for the best
in New Zealand artists, music.
It's like the promo was delivered as a cold voice over with the option to
remove either word then someone else put the music together underneath it
and somehow pitch changed it during the words New Zealand and Artist.. It's
not like Mark to do something that poorly edited. I'd ask him to do it again
with a cold voice or check that edit. He may not have noticed what he's
hasn't finished editing.

Hi Gavin,

Nexgen uses Layer II or .wav - if it is datapacked it will show as .pkt :)

Bin's a weird one.

It doesn't come from a darlet system either which is .snd in the older systems. It may be from a prophet system but I don't know what file format it uses. Prophet is quite common in TRN stations and BSI Wavestation/Simian in the communities, but BSI stuff is usually linear or acm .wav (not adpcm) wave.

Perhaps russ can tell me what file types Prophet does for you guys up the west coast?

I don't think it came from a Master Control system as I don't think they bother with file extensions at all. I used to be able to open them in winamp (they were raw mp2's without a header).

It sounds like the quality of kiwi fm via Optus B1, a low a bitrate mp2 stream. (I'm not a Sky digital subscriber, just a satellite radio and free to air digital tv viewer, kiwi's not scrambled).

It opens fine for me although where he says "artists" it sounds like the
audio slows down as if coming off tape then quickly speeds up again. It's a
bad edit at the point in my opinion. It also runs for 33.699 seconds. At
those two minor points I'm surprised Mark did that without making it a nice
and tight 30 second and re-do the edit before the word artist.

Gavin.

They probably have an STL, although,

With a tuned antenna and filters it's possible.

I have an old Technics that has a zero group delay 6 stage ceramic IF
filter, signal level read out in dB on the floru display, and general signal
or switchable multipath LED metering with MPX output that I got off trademe
for about $26. It was built in 1985ish, hardly used so the capcitors are
good.

Tuners like this operate really well for using to tune in to an exsisting
close seperated channel. 700KHz is plenty of room for this tuner to work.

I can tune to an FM Dunedin channel only 200KHz away from a local channels
in Balclutha and reject all local signal, switch to mono and listen fine. On
a normal radio or even on the car radio (which is usually far better) it's
impossible to hear the same channel from cross-talk and static. The 6 stage
IF filter can slightly discolour a stereo signal at about 52KHz as it's a
very narrowband filter, but it works perfect for mono reception and LPFM
listening.

The Technics ST-S6 and ST-S8 are worth keeping an eye out for second hand,
especially for their MPX out before the signal is de-emphasised. Otherwise
they only have -10dB unbalanced outputs designed for a home stereo.

Old technology = all the bells and whistles, not a few single IC's with
plenty of noise for mass production like today's stuff.

This is what they look like.

Have heard it,107 covers the northern end of the town wheres 107.7 covers better south, better than King Country Radio or Radio Rhema, thats all you get there and sounds like the unforgettable format in Papatoetoe which has a better variety than Coast.
