Hi Callum

My NRG transmitters have a row of little DIP switches on the
circuit board to set the frequency. It's easy - as long as
you have the instructions.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Geoff

I'm not an Xtra customer, but I know our mail server
at work (on Citylink) has had terrible trouble delivering
email to Xtra addresses for the last few days. Their mail
servers seem to be refusing mail for hours on end before
accepting it.

Hi John
We are setting up a link for our station using 150mW
tx from www.acreselectronics.co.nz They are down here
at Oamaru and can supply Tx Rx and antenna, Have
discussed the proposal with the RI and it seem OK.
Was going to use gardband talk through repeater but
found a 25Watt courier link at the same site as our
receiver so 2.4G looks like our best option for less
then $1k.

2.4 will go a long way using grid pack aerials. You can get 200mW units. They will go many times further than 2.5km. Not really legal though

I am after some advice and help.

The Flea in Auckland broadcasts from Mt Victoria in Devonport. The
studio is located 2.5km away in Bayswater. The challenge we have is to
provide an economical link from Studio to Transmitter. We have tried a
30mw microwave link in the 2.4Ghz range without success.

Has anybody else found a solution to this and if so how was it done/

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

U can send digital S/PDIF over a good 2.4GHz link using a video microwave transmitter aswell.

Problem with 2.4GHz is all the wi-fi lan enthusiasts though and every other man and his dog using the 2.4GHz spectrum in some places. If you had a couple of PC's spare and bought some wi-fi gear, you could stream using 2.4GHz wi-fi networking instead as if you would using the Internet, just privately.

But didn't Ross mention something a long time back about using a broadcast warehouse transmitter tuned to something down around 70Mhz or something in mono free? If it's not being used where you need your STL that is.

Gavin.

I'd be interested in thoughts on microwave STL's as we are considering a link
to our Stratford station and broadband is not available from the proposed
sending site so have to look at microwave as the only option.

Hi Gavin

Studio v4 supports automatic and manual segue points, which are stored in a file tag.  The automatic segue points are calculated based on the volume at the end of the file.  This is configurable with a DB selection.  A fixed duration crossfade like your 5 second example, is a poor substitute and does not usually work well, particularly for songs that end cold.

Manual segue points can be used to tell specific tracks exactly where to crossfade, in case the automatic system does not calculate the best position, but this is rare.

I regard crossfading and seguing as the same thing, but yes, when a new track starts, the current track is faded down in a set time.  The set time is not fixed like some automation software, however.  It is variable based on an Overlap duration which is calculated automatically using another DB setting, or can also be specified manually.

This provides a better sounding crossfade.  If the next song starts with a low volume, the crossfade will overlap for longer while the new track starts.  The opposite will occur if the new tracks starts loud, the crossfade will be short.  This is fully configurable with minimum and maximum settings.

Regarding your other question,
> Then if it is told to stop after the current event playing, does it allow that item to play right out without fading?

Yes.  When in live assist mode (automation disabled), the track will play past it's segue point and continue fading out naturally, unless Stop is executed or Play is executed for the next track.

Cheers,
Ross.

Hi Ross, probably not the best place to ask this but others might be interested in knowing the occasional thing about the software you create.

I'm currently downloading the newer demo of your software to become fimiliar with it. I could just wait and see but thought I'd ask this anyway while I'm waiting...

When station playlist cross-fades, I'm guessing it really means cross-fades and not just segue? As in the current item playing when the new item starts, is faded down in a set time? If it does this, then that poses my next question...

Then if it is told to stop after the current event playing, does it allow that item to play right out without fading?

The reason being, I use uncompressed wave files (not mp3's etc... and I don't use filenames for storing artist/title) which are topped, but not completely tailed. I do impose my own fades to the audio on the end of CD tracks as I like nice natural fades in to a live break, but I like systems that can put a fixed say 5 second fade on material not marked as (segue 0 or do not fade at end etc...) to be faded for tighter stand aloned automation without live breaks or even for voice tracks for that matter.

Just wondered what your preference for that is and whether it's implimented in your software?

Thanks,
Gavin.

I've got 'The Buzz o Bumble Party' or something similar in mint quality on vinyl (as part of our growing library that we use for our Sat morning children's show) if that's any help...

PS Is anyone interested in re-broadcasting the childrens show? Features all the classics like Badjelly the witch, Peter & the Wolf, Fox in sox read by Adrian Edmondson (!?)...

Some information I got from someone who knew him.
I have removed a few details.

Yes he was here in Nelson. He originated in Invercargill, here for several years then
off to the Wellington 2ZB Breakfast session.
I believe he and his wife live out at  Redwoods valley. He has been there for a number of years now.

I have asked someone who might know. He worked either here in Nelson or maybe it was the West Coast, I can't remember which.
I have a friend who was a Tech in radio in those days.

This won't actually be of any help to you but I remember hearing buzz o bumble when I was a kid in the early 80s so he must have been round for a while

A friend wishes to change the frequency of a TMX500 transmitter.
Is there a chart of DIP switch settings like the Veronica models?
I haven't seen the inside of it yet, and the friend has no
documentation for the transmitter.

Regards, David.

Hi,

I hope it's ok to post this here. If not, please feel free to remove
this post. I run a LPFM station out of Lower Hutt, New Zealand called
'The Cheese'. The station broadcasts on FM, and streams 24/7 to the
internet via shoutcast. I'm looking for some NZ voicetrackers for the
station.

Currently there is just me, an american guy and an english guy.
I play three shows '80s Meltdown' and 'Cheeze Pleeze' from Canada and
'The Late Zone' from the UK. I'm wanting to get a bit more of a
localised sound (NZ voices) on station.

You can listen online via shoutcast, links via the station website at
www.thecheese.co.nz.

I can't really offer voicetracking in exchange for your station,
however I can offer free voiceovers for people who do voicetracking.

You don't need to be in Wellington, as it can all be done remotely via
html playlists, my ftp server and recorded mp3 files. :)

If you're interested, please drop me a line to: grant@...

Apologies once again if this is an inappropriate forum to post this.
Wasn't sure of any other places where I could try to get some NZ talent :)

Cheers,
Grant
